Famous People Who Play D&D

Post by Havard » Mon May 18, 2015 5:04 pm

I just read this article on another website about 12 famous people who play D&D.

It listst the following:
Vin Diesel
Tim Duncan (NBA player)
Mike Myers
Stephen Colbert
Kevin Smith
Felicia Day
Stephen King
Wil Wheaton
Dwayne "the Rock" Johnson
Joss Whedon
Curt Shilling (Baseball)
Jon Favreau

We have had some threads on this topic in the past, but new names keep coming up.

There is one Piazza thread about Patton Oswalt and D&D where I posted the following:
Havard wrote:I'm sure others have also heard about this by now:
http://gawker.com/patton-oswalts-wife-d ... 1578953911

Patton Oswalt can now be added to the list of famous folks who have played D&D. The list also includes Vin Diesel, Will Wheaton, Joss Whedon, Jon Favreau, Hulk Hogan, Robin Williams, Daryl Hannah and others. :)
There is also one here about Vin Diesel talking about his character.

Do you guys know of more famous people who play (or have played) D&D? :)

You can find a list of celebrities that claim to have played D&D, at some point in their lives, in the link below (listed in the Players section).

Not sure if this artist's impression is representative of The Rock's playing style? :o

Anyway, from the article linked in the first post, it seems like he was mostly a casual gamer, preferring board games, even though he has played D&D several times.

Also, we now have to add Dame Judy Dench to the list! She was apparently introduced to the game by Vin Diesel :ugeek:

Josh Barnett, MMA fighter in the UFC and occasional show-wrestler plays Magic The Gathering (for sure) and at least has tried D&D out. Dunno if he's more deeply into D&D, but MtG at least he plays quite a lot. Anyway, he's one to add to the list.

I know that at least one of the cast of the animated Dragonlance movie played their characters at Dragonlance roleplaying games at conventions after the movie got made.

I just heard from Christina Styles that the Patterson character on Blindspot said she plays a D&D gnome cleric. Apparantly the actress who plays Paterson plays D&D in real-life.

I went looking for more information and it seems that Ashley Johnson has been playing D&D since about 2013:
Ashley Johnson on the Ashley Suzanne blog wrote:Dungeons & Dragons Madness. Absolute Madness.

I've been in this Dungeons & Dragons campaign for over a year now. No joke, some of the best nights of my life have been through this campaign. Matthew Mercer might be the best Dungeon Master of all time. I'll fight anyone who thinks otherwise!

These are my friends and my family and I feel so lucky to be a part of it. I put together this little trailer from one of our game nights that started at 7pm and ended at 3 in the am. Absolute madness. Enjoy.
That's one to add to your list Havard. ;)

There's famous and then there is famous - apparently Dame Judy Dench walked in on Vin Diesel's D&D group during the filming of the Chronicles of Riddick and now she DMs for her grandchildren...

If they are anything like many of the serious non-famous gamers I know, that answer is a moving target, especially the part about what character class/race they're playing. :ugeek:

Thread necromancy. Among famous D&D players in France, we should name Julie Gayet.

Image

Julie Gayet, born in 1972, is a film actress and producer. She was also famous to be former president François Hollande's girlfriend, even she never acceded to an officuial first lady status : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Julie_Gayet

In this 2015 interview, she said : « Je suis de la génération des jeux de rôles Donjons et Dragons, Casus Belli.» [I'm part of the Dungeons & Dragons, Casus Belli's generation"]. Casus Belli is main rpg magazine in french language.

http://www.presseocean.fr/actualite/nan ... 015-174479

Here, she also admit playing Call of Chtulhu :

https://www.ouest-france.fr/pays-de-la- ... es-3807564

We still don't know if she played D&d with president Hollande. Who knows ?

Came here to suggest Deborah Ann Woll, who now streams D&D professionally.

As does Joe Mangianiello of True Blood and Justice League fame.

On that front it is reported that Vin Diesel introduced Dame Judi Dench to D&D after she walked in on hiw D&D group during the filming of The Chronicles of Riddick. What I haven't see anywhere is anything showing that she still plays.
