Lex Arcana - An Empire Without End RPG

Post by shesheyan » Wed Sep 19, 2018 9:05 pm

Interesting premise. First time I hear about this game. Any Italian players around here who have played this rpg ?

Join the Cohors Arcana, Rome’s elite force, to investigate supernatural threats in the darkest corners of the world and beyond!

Originally published in Italy in 1993, Lex Arcana was designed by an exceptional team of authors: Dario De Toffoli, Leo Colovini, Marco Maggi and Francesco Nepitello. For the new edition, the same team is now reunited under the creative direction of Andrea Angiolino, to create a game that will appeal to veteran players and newcomers to Lex Arcana alike.

I know of it, but have only read a quick start. It is definitely an interesting setting, not unlike Cthulhu Invictus.

IIRC (I read that quickstarter ages ago), the system used a (very) limited number of skills and attributes, and each was scored as a die (d4, d6, etc.). Reading the kickstarter page, it seems they are keeping the same system, with the option (which might have been there already, can't remember) to split, e.g., a d12 in 2d6 as long as the total number of faces is the same, which gives interesting trade-offs. If they keep it to this level of simplicity, it is a good lightweight system.

Very interesting game, both under ruleset and setting/flavor point of view: go for it!

By the way, I can see on the Kickstarter page that funding is progressing incredibly well!

The Kickstarter ended, reaching all the stretch goals. I've backed it :-)
