D&D plans for a new campaign setting book in 2019

Post by zontoxira »

https://comicbook.com/gaming/2018/11/03 ... book-2019/

There are two particular lines worthy of note:
"A new setting book. A book that we have not created that is for a D&D setting."
Stewart mentioned earlier this year that there were no "current plans" for a new campaign setting
From what I can tell, we're expecting a possible new region in the Realms, designed by a third-party team.

Looks like this is based on stuff broadcast on the Spoilers & Swag show on November 2nd.

It looks like the annoucement is 1 hour 1 minutes in: Spoiler number 5
Nathan Stewart on the D&D Twitch channel wrote:Next year, for our annual releases, I can confirm there will be a setting book. A new setting book. A book we have not created, that is for a D&D setting.

A non-playtest version of the Wayfinder's Guide to Eberron, perhaps?

Agreed. I believe he is talking about Eberron. It is a book they have not created and its for a D&D setting.

Here is where Nathan Stuart says "we are not doing Spelljammer anytime soon"*.
Nathan Stewart on the D&D Twitch channel wrote:Now don't go pontificating and thinking that this is going to be Spelljammer or something with airships, just because Jeremy and Chris Perkins actually wrote the rules and playtested the rules on how to drive one of those ships and how to be a mage at the centre of the thing. I don't want you to go down that rathole, because I've told you we are not doing Spelljammer anytime soon. So don't go there.

As I posted in this thread, I have seen speculation that this new setting might actually be Mystara, in the form of the Isle of Dread reprint. It makes a lot of sense given the quote "a book that we have not created is for a new setting" since the Isle of Dread reprint will be published by Goodman Games.

Now in this thread we speculated that the Known World information might be purged from the Goodman Games release. Perhaps this is confirmation that this is not the case and that WotC will indeed allow GMG to pubish the full content of both versions of the Isle of Dread (both containing an overview of the KW nations of Mystara)?

OTOH, if it is as simple as that, why wouldn't Nathan Stewart simply say so? Well, he is the guy who tweeted the image trolling people into thinking they were doing Spelljammer only to reveal that the title said "summer" so maybe that's just the kind of guy he is?

He said that about Spelljammer? :?

Without ever hearing of this Stewart guy before this thread, my first opinion of him.

Is that he is indeed.

An ass.

Come on, WotC. Don't start trolling your fans. I can create my own content easier than I can stomach giving anyone money that trolls me.

They're working hard on all this tease and denial on Spelljammer. I'm starting to think we'll indeed see Spelljammer soon...

Without ever hearing of this Stewart guy before this thread, my first opinion of him.
Nathan Stewart is the same guy who did the "Spelljammer confirmed?" thing before (with Greg Tito), where he wrote the word "Summer" in the style of the Spelljammer logo and then took a photo of the word "Summer" and cropped off the "Su", so that fans thought they had discovered the word "Spelljammer on a picture.

So this seems to be him trying to make sure people don't think he is trolling Spelljammer fans, but it just sounds more like he is doing it a second time.

If they do actually bring out a Spelljammer book (which I would like WotC to do) I probably won't notice, because they will have cried Wolfspace* one too many times by then.

I don't understand the reference. Seems I'm missing a bit of TSR lore.

Mike Mears= Current D&D desiger
Jeff Grubb =TSR era D&D designer. Among many other things also the creator of Spelljammer.

I know that. I thought there was a double meaning I didn't get.

Do you mean a double meaning referencing "lunch"? A straight up business meeting, I suppose.

Although I could take that meaning to be a nefarious euphemism for "stabbing them in the back after said lunch", but IMO that url would include Nathan Stewart, not Mike Mearls.
