I’m excited about this. I have thought for some time that this universe was very ‘game-able’ and I trust the Free League to do a great job.
Perhaps threads about this setting should have the tag [Alien]?

I love Alien and Aliens, but I find horror to be a challenging genre for RPGs. I'm really interested to see what they're able to create, as Tales from the Loop is a fantastic product. Maybe the "cinematic" adventures will be helpful to my table.

Piazza member and game designer Cam Banks is on the design team of this RPG. Getting better and better! :)

It's the same system as Coriolis the Third Horizon. Very curious about this new variation.

The interview on the Effekt podcast talks about some of the rules changes/additions that are designed to replicate the the setting and the kinds of scenes seen in the films. They are being very thoughtful in their approach to emulating the source material and it sounds very promising. Some ideas include:

Two play modes: ‘campaign’ for exploring the universe. Cinematic for short deadly one-off adventures with low survivability just like the films.

Rules for being hunted and stealth.

A tension mechanic which makes you more alert and capable as danger ramps up but at the risk of panicking. Panic behaviours chosen to match what is seen in the films.

Lore-experts on the team to fill out the universe with factions etc. so that there are other threats and not every game has to be about fighting Aliens.

Interesting. Coriolis has Mind Points that can be lost when you face stress or horrific events. When your character reaches zero MP he breaks down mentally.
