[Art] Dark Sun - Lake of Bone Mists

Post by Silverblade-T-E » Mon Jul 16, 2012 8:38 pm

A lake, a lake of water on Athas, the world burning under the Dark Sun...
A lake of deadly poisonous brine, the boiled-down remains of an inland sea, who's vapours and metal-salt kill all but the most foul and deadly of mutated beasts.
The sands and salt deposits are thick with the remains of countless bones of foolish people and creatures thinking they have found nirvana: fresh water in abundnace
In fact, so many have died over the millenia that the sand is perhaps as much bone as ground-down rock.
The few who know of it call it "the Lake of Bone Mists

Always appreciate these little DS injections on your behalf, Silver. They definitely make my day and bring me careening back to Athas from wherever I'm at.

Very interesting. Is this a canon-location (that you have brought to life) or did you invent this?

Just made it up myself, bud :)
was thinking of the strange "soda lakes" you get across the world, Yellowstone park, Death valley etc
places where water is highly toxic, acidic, areas laced with salts etc left behind by evaporation (like the Dead Sea)
I read years ago, I don't know if true, that an area in Death Valley had a depression that tended to have high CO2 that could choke you though I know such have been associated with vulcanism across the world now and then

Nice bit of inspiration you had there.
