cool

I was surprised myself at the girl's seeming reluctance to melee, but it worked out pretty well, albeit very expensive in spell slots

Review of session 87 (Tuesday 7th April 2020)

Clyw has a tale to tell, return to Caer Cadwen and Marid attack.

Players and their characters
Genghisdon with Caliph Earendil. High Priest of Mitra.
Dreamteam playing Lord Clyw of Grimalon a Rogue from the CSIO.
Icemaiden and Thebia, Shariffa of At-Kadeen . Amazon Paladin of Athena from Highhaven.
Bochi with Lady Alkaia of Grimalon. Amazon Ranger of Sea Rune.

Events 0100 16/1/4449 - 1200 4/2/4449

Search as they may there was no sign of Clyw or the wizard in the chamber atop the tower. Several days were spent searching the place until quite without warning one morning he was sat in the kitchen drinking rea before the fire. He had quite the tale to tell.

It was decided to return to Caer Cadwen and Earendil whisked them off on the wings of a spell. Here they made further plans and procured supplies for their long journy back to the Marmon Swamp. They decided to go as far as they could on their enchanted boat and set off upstream on the morning of the 4th. It was heavy going against the fast flowing Leander and just as it came into sight a fog cloud swiftly descended upon them.
Something watery was forming around them in the dense fog. A Water Elemental which they battled bravely then with a great whoosh! A jet of water struck them, washing poor Clyw overboard into the river.
Earendil jumped after him, swimming under water to avoid the fog both at the mercy of the powerful current.
Back on the ship the elementl was soon defeated but then it's master came aboard. A dreadful Marid!
We join them here next week.
Clyw is 5 rounds from the shore and taking all his effort to stay afloat.
Eaendil is underwater searching for him, now with daylight on his shield.
The Amazons are aboard and engaged in battle.
Alkaia -21
Thebia - 19
Earendil - 16
Clyw - 7
Marid - 6

Clyw’s strange tale...

Clyw feels himself falling, life ebbing from him then came the fiery explosion, the searing pain. His determination to cling to life was strong but he knows it’s over. He settles into a comforting darkness.
After an infinite amount of time he finds himself floating down a tunnel towards a clear, white light. The pain is receding. He feels comforted, warm, at peace....
Just as he’s about to slip into welcome oblivion he feels an iron hard grip around his heart, he looks back over his shoulder to see an impossibly cruel, scaled face leering at him. He hears a voice like waves washing over a shingle beach in his head; “Oh no little fool, death is too easy. I have use of you yet. Come back, come back, come back......” the voice trails away and Clyw opens his eyes.

He finds himself in a high ceilinged chamber surrounded by mermaid fountains, large crystal lamps and jade statues. The floor and walls glisten with emeralds and he lays upon a golden couch beside a small table laid out with sumptuous foods a heavy crystal decanter full of honey coloured wine and two matching stemmed goblets.

At first he thinks he’s alone then notices the most beautiful woman he has ever seen, her skin a silky Celadon sat quietly watching him. “Ah! You’re awake. My husband will be delighted. I am Murielle Eidn. Wonderful to meet you at last Mr. Furton, I trust you are comfortable?”

Clyw's mind briefly boggles at the mystery of all that has happened, but his ego quickly recovers and takes it in stride. He always knew he was special: first the prophecy, then the green scaley guy and now this pleasant-talking jade-skinned doxy confirm it. He wonders how long he was floating in limbo, but figures days probably don't count for much in the afterlife...

Using a clever bit of misdirection, he quickly summons the invisible mage hand while helping himself to a glass of wine and making pleasant chat... taking in the surroundings all in the sweep of an eye. "Seems quite the welcome. So, this is paradise eh (sip), or somewhere closer to the Prime? Do you do this often... rescuing people from death? I take it you and your husband had some involvement in my being here?" He moves around as he talks, professionally scoping out the place and his beautiful hostess, should a bit of legerdemain prove necessary. "Your husband is the one with the scaly face?"

"Let me guess... you need my help to take out the Emperor! Well, I'll tell you straight out, I don't do assassinations, though I would be willing to steal his crown jewels. And of course there would have to be payment. Though I will make a generous reduction of fee in your case because of services rendered and because this is quite good wine. Also I happen to like green." Clyw smiles warmly.

She seems about to reply when a set of gilded doors open. “Mr. Furton! So glad you are feeling better. I’m Hautilin Seheitt and I see you have met my wife? Welcome to Veridistan, the City of Spices!”

Nonplussed, but now senses on high alert, Clyw figures the Green Emperor has brought him here for more than pleasant banter. He awaits the monologue, knowing that villains can't help but spill the beans on their secret plans…

Seheitt and Eidn lead Clyw through a second set of gilded doors. The emperor’s strange ‘chair’ gliding along silently and the empress with one delicate hand laid in a friendly fashion on Clyw’s wrist walking beside. They seem genuinely interested in hearing any of the rogues stories and rarely interrupt except to occasionally clarify a point.

They lead him down magnificent hallways ablaze with candelabra, the dancing light reflected off a million green gemstones set into every surface. Priceless works of art are tastefully displayed in this palace of wonders. After a short time they pass three stunningly beautiful mermaids in ornate tanks then enter a dining hall of unsurpassed elegance and luxury.

Over dinner Seheitt outlines the following: “You have no doubt heard terrible things of me Mr. Furton? How I am a monster who rules my subjects with a savage cruelty and demands tribute without a care from your own home city of Ramsarhon? How I raise demons to crush my enemies?!”

“But tell me, have you seen evidence of this? I know you have travelled extensively across the empire. Did you find my subjects living in fear and poverty? Did you see any but my enemies raising Demons? Was it not me that drove the wicked Natchai from this city and would have driven them out of the empire completely if this needless war had not been thrust upon me?
I am guilty of but two crimes. Building a wall to protect my people from the perfidious elves and fearing the rise of that great evil known as Mycr.”

He pauses as he takes a drink of a deep crimson wine. “Mr. Furton, I know you are aware of the nature of these Mycretians.. these blind fanatics. Who I even believe the Hags of the Marmonmist fear? It is these so called gentle folk who we must all beware of. The elves, even the Mitrans have all fallen under their spell. They are patient and will spread, town by town, city by city until only their God is recognised and humanity groans under His yoke. The witches claim they want to stop him, indeed they have stolen many powerful magical items from this very Palace to bolster their failing powers. But it is only I who can destroy this wicked abomination and I can only do it with your help. Will you help me Mr. Furton? Will you and your friends recover my magic from the hands of the witches of the Marmonmist then have the courage to stand with me against Mycr?”

Clyw listens to any reasonable offer... "So what is it exactly you want to steal?" (Aside: Does Hautilin Seheitt think Clyw was born yesterday? With his own eyes, he has seen demons fighting alongside Imperial armies near Rappan Anthuk even now, plus others infesting Gheulost Isle, not to mention an Abyssal ghostly fleet protecting the secret island in the Trident Gulf. Are these not Seheitt's minions? Did they not almost burn the domain of the elves almost to the last tree? Did imperial Vasthosts not slaughter the innocents of Sully?)

That said, the Emperor's story does seem to reinforce Clyw's own misgivings about the Mycretians. "So why haven't you made common cause with the Hags if you all want the same thing?" he asks.

Seheitt replies “The Hags are more cunning than you know. They too are ancient creatures who came north from their homeland many centuries ago. They are cannibals and wish only for Chaos! They think only of themselves and can not be trusted. “

Clw considers "In any case, for the final answer, I'll have to consult with my three amigos. They might want you to lose the slavery and build some Mitran and Athenian temples. And then of course we need to talk payment", Clyw flourishes with his hands towards the posh surrounding for effect. "Let's see... for rescuing the empire, from the destruction of the world no less... hmmm, that's gonna be a doozie."

The Emperor recites “These words you know well…
Lady, Fool, Lord
And Sea Rune’s Daughter
Emperor’s Child preparing for slaughter.
Mer or Menhir or Hags of the Mermist
King of Normoot or King of Rags caring?
Ancient reeds shifting if only they’re daring.”

“Mr. Furton, here in my city you will find a temple to Shang-Ti and to Thoth. Mitra, Athena and other Lawful Gods all have a place here. Alas some have been duped by the silver tongue of The Deceiver (Mycr). In The Lord (Earendil) I had hoped for such a one who would lift the heavy veil from the eyes of his church but it seems he can not see half as well as you the dangers before him."

“So take this offer to your friends. Tell them, I am old and will soon go into to the depths with my beautiful wife. Tell Earendil my Empire will be his and freely given, tell him Mitra may rule when I am gone but also tell The Lord this; that while the Hags brew Chaos in the Marmon and while Mycr, The Deceiver pollutes his church that he will never prevail.”

“...You and your friends have their part to play. Much of what was written has come to pass, much remains for you to do. The dancers take the floor. How long will it be now before my own son, who leads the Natchai or the wicked Overlord or Mycr himself will come to overthrow this last Lawful Empire? It is in your gift to prevent this and usher in a new golden age. As if that is not reward enough?”

Here he smiles a surprisingly broad white grin at Clyw then continues. “There are but four of the stolen treasures I require. The others, each mighty artifacts you and your friends may keep. You may think to keep them all? So let me warn you that the Hags are no fools. They have them hidden, well protected by fang, claw and magical curse. When you feel the time is ripe, speak this reed and I shall stand beside you in the battle. But save it until all hope is lost for it can compel me only once.”

“Green Man, Green Man
I am in need
The Hags of the Marmon
On my flesh would feed!
Green Man, Green Man
Mount your fell steed
Join battle beside us
Come at great speed!”

“I have but two more messages. To The Lady, tell her ‘The Griffins will rise again, beware the Green Lady of Thusia. And to Sea Rune’s Daughter ‘The Irons Spear of Immortal Ashan was forged for this very purpose.”

“Now Clyw, may I call you Clyw? It is time for you to decide. Will you aid me? I can return you now to your friends if you will and please take these baubles as a sign of my good will.” He hands Clyw a silk purse of 50, 1000GP emeralds.

Clyw agrees to take the Emperor's proposal to the others, but it is not his sole decision to make. Though he does suppose offering Earendil the Imperial Throne will go a long way to assuage any hard feelings...

River trip to Stay Falls. Rumours of a great cathedral, dive bombing Peryton and Banshees at the window.

Events 1200 4/2/4449 - 1900 7/2/4449

The girls proved to much for the Marid and he fled back to his watery plane a great deal worse for wear. They picked the boys up from the bank and continued their sailing northwards.
Staying overnight at the Ghan Bridge, Thebia heard rumour that a vast cathedral to Athena had been completed up Damkina way by some chap called Winsindor, she was almost as green as Earendil for a while but Alkaia’s coneys put her back on form.
Upriver still further they were debating their course when out of the gloomy sleet came 4 Peryton. One gouged Earendil before they were blasted from the sky.
It was determined the most direct route would be taken from here but using their magical cottage they first rested for the night. During Clyw’s watch a fearful apparition appeared at the window. The Banshee wailed but our lad wasn’t impressed and she fled back into the night.
Morning broke clear and the party pressed further north, joining some soldiers at the Nurn for lunch before crossing to the north bank to pass Stay Falls and join the river west of Ruppin Athuk.
Until next week.

To the lair of the Marmon Witches. (Or the Veridian Play as we prefer to call it.)

Events 1900 7/2/4449 - midday 10/2/4449

Following a quiet night in the caves at Stay Falls they sailed on down the Nurn to the Ruppin Athuk Bridge where they partied long into the night with Aknekkle and his Giants, Alkaia once more gaining their great favour with her off colour ditties. Parting from them on the morrow they pressed onwards sailing into the swift flow of mighty Sharynn where they made good progress until the confluence with the Snikle where they were hailed by a small wooden craft.
The folks on board wore their long hair hung with flowers . They called out to come aboard and share the word of Mycr. Earendil instead decided to join them on their boat but was in for a shock. No sooner had he set foot aboard than they swiftly cast off and then began to change, to morph into the most horrid shapes, entwining together each hungrily seeking the blood of the cleric. He was wounded most horridly before fast thinking Alkaia fired volly after volly of arrows into the writhing mass and then Earendil exploded a fireball around himself and finished them off with an even more powerful enchantment. He returned to their own ship more thn a bit worse for ware.
As darkness fell they finally found the ancient jetti marked on the Mull Kreen map. They spent a quiet night here preparing to enter the swamp come dawn. Stepping ashore they were amazed to find that by following the map's route the muck and filth of the swamp seemed to make way for them, even the mist clearing somewhat and by lunchtime the witches lair came into view.
A road of old and broken cobbles led up a small hill that raised itself above the surrounding marsh. A collection of small, homely buildings, beehives, orchards and vegetable gardens atop it. Bees hummed, chickens pecked and three hunched figures sat beneath the apple trees just east of the five barred gate that crossed the path.

As they approached the gate the witches chant together..

“By the pricking of my thumbs,
Bold adventures this way come?
Open, locks,
Whoever knocks”

Gaedd
“Thrice and one
The bold heroes come!”

Phyth
“Thrice and once we’ll hear them whine”

Gaedd
“Mycr cries "'Tis time, 'tis time!”

All

“Hehehehehehehe!”

Alkaia replied.

"Ancient ladies over there
We have come to talk and hear
So we knock upon your gate
Show us kindness, and not hate!"

And we leave them at the witches gate until next week.

Review of Session 90. (Tuesday 28th April 2020)

Much is explained.

Events midday 10/2/4449 1400 10/2/4449

After exchanging formal greetings (Alkaia was a star) the witches welcomed the party into their home.
Much was revealed which will be spelled out here in clear English to avoid misunderstandings.

The witches have no idea what the party was sent here to recover for the emperor. They suggest that his long lost son, Whitefre (recently returned and now leading the Natchai from the city of Grimalon, map attached.) is much more likely to be responsible for the thefts than they.

They insist that it is Mycr the self styled ‘one God’ Who is the great threat to humanity not the ailing green emperor and ask if the party is willing to battle him?

The Dopplegangers last week posing as Mycretians described Mitra as Mycr’s Hand Maiden. Zealots in the cult of Mycr had before described Earendil’s God as Mycr’s Herald.

The choices I suggested as DM to make writing the next chapters easier were these.

1) Side with the witches against Mycr.
2) Side with the emperor against the Witches. Then possibly aiding him against Mycr.
3) Settle things once and for all with Whitefire and the Natchai at Grimalon. Possibly discovering what he stole from his father, the emperor, that that worthy wants back so badly.
4) To Hell with Hags and Empire and keep onside with the Mitra/Mycr alliance.

Earendil at this point floated the idea that they could summon Hautulin Seheitt (the Green Emperor) using the chant given to Clyw and the party and the Hags battle him together. A proposal none too warmly welcomed by the three witches.

They are shortly to part and await the decision of the group. They offer as reward one draw from their magical card deck (22 card Deck of Many Things) or the choice of any one common or uncommon magical item from the DMG.

Session terminated early due to DM fatigue. Apologies.
Maps to follow tomorrow.

Atusa, Shahbanu.

Events midday 1400 10/2/4449 - 1900 10/2/4449

Having collected their gifts from the hags the party set off back through the swamp. Almost back at the quay and about to cross a fallen log they were confronted by a startlingly beautiful green skinned woman. Earendil recognised her straight away from court. One of the seven deadly sisters, the emperors' hand maidens and assassins, the Shahabanu!
Words were traded and she attacked. But our heroes were resilient and she fled into the dark, rainy swamp on her water walking boots.
Will they follow? Find out next week.

Death of the Shahbanu, Atusa. Carousing at the Buggered Orphan. An old friend calls and Owls!

Events 1900 10/2/4449 - 1900 4/3/4449

Relentless Alkaia tracked the fleeing emerald skinned assassin through the Marmonmist swamp. Eventually running her to ground on the banks of the Sharryn about to flee in a small craft she’d hidden there.
Our heroes were implacable and Atusa wounded and weary, the battle was only ever going to go one way. Thebia ended it with a swift stroke from Ashrune which sent the Veridian’s head flying.
After a brief discussion it was decided they would make their way by river to Port Targnol. They learned much of interest both with Clyw at the Buggered Orphan and at the Star of the West. It was here just as Clyw was been shown the door that an old friend from the past showed up. Catchpole the enterprising Hobbit and friend of Red from the Jolly Ent. He bustled then away to a safe house before arranging for them to leave town and meet Sir Sandor and a number of Giant Owls. They circled upwards as night fell, bound towards Grimlon, the City of Screaming Statues!

The long rest at Catchpole’s house allowed you all to collect the XP earned these last few weeks. +8,000 each anyone who needs too may level up before next week.

The Battle of Grimlon begins!

Events 1900 4/3/4449 - 0015 5/3/4449

The owls flew swiftly. Circling down through the midnight clouds over Grimlon. The screams of the damned souls turned to stone rising up to meet them. They alighted in a huge paved plaza. The owls had no sooner swooped away than out of the shadows crept a score of Witch Elves and their leader Isin Black Heart, one of the three members of the Council of the Ludgates, the ruling body of the Amiondel.
The battle was brutal taking over three hours to play out. Clyw ‘s control of the battlefield using Fog Cloud was masterful, halting the crushing damage from Witch-Bolts and Magic Missiles and forcing them to combat and into range of Mitra’s Holy Lions. Thebia and Alkaia relentlessly churning out and soaking up damage round after round while Clyw’s sneak attacks and Earendil’s magic took their toll.
After a long struggle the Amiondel were slain and Isin through blood flecked lips spat out his final words.

“You will never stop my Master! He will slay them all at dawn and without Taata Ert’s staff you can not enter his tower! Taata awaits you in the Sqare of Red Blood!”

Next week: The Battle of Grimlon Part 2.

Death of Tatta Ert, Mitra is pleased.

Events 1900 4/3/4449 - 0330 5/3/4449

After resting for an hour to regain their breath our heroes continued towards their next battle. The streets of Grimlon were empty of both the goodly folk who stayed hidden behind heavily shuttered windows or else the wicked who had fled before their wrath. Only the shrieking of the tortured stone statues along the city walls broke the silence.
Entering the Square of Red Blood they saw but four foes arrayed before them. Three brown robed wizards and beyond them Tatta Ert himself. They now recognised him as the mastermind last seen in the sewers below Caer Cadwen hatching the dastardly plot to blow up that city who had fled on the strange brass underwater ship. They were about to get their revenge.
Heedless of fireballs and ice storms they cut their way through to Tatta. He traded Eldritch Blasts with their arrows; both causing heavy damage. But it was Clyw who tipped the scales. Sneaking invisibly behind the Primate of the Natch-Ur he shot him through the lungs and a single arrow from Thebia finished the job. A great evil was sent from the world this day.
Time stopped.
Mitra revealing himself to warn of the terrible battle ahead. They must stop Whitefire performing the Scarlet Sprinkle Ritual, the slaying of the innocent which was to take place before dawn in his black tower. As the great God left they found themselves healed in body and mind ready for their next, greater task.

Death of Alkaia, death of Earendil, death of Clyw. Thebia flees. Whitefire victorious

Events 0330 - 0400 5/3/4449

An ugly, squat, black tower lay before them over a bridge guarded by three pairs of obsidian Gargoyles. Gargoyles who's wounds would have spelled death but for the skill of our heroes. Leaving the broken shards behind them they advanced on the adamantine portcullis that secured entry to the vile tower beyond. Clyw broke Taata's evil Root Staff on the gate and the portal faded to a nasty cloud of opaque, brown smog leading inside.
As they emerged from the smog they found themselves in a 90' diameter cavern, not what they had expected at all, the walls and floor were natural stone, the roof some 60' above hung with stalactites. The majority of the space was taken up with a massive half formed Stone Golem. Stairs wound up around it from both sides to a landing above on which stood a bloody alter.
Alkaia, Thebia and Earendil made straight for the left hand stairs while Clyw hung back at the whispy barrier seperating them from the real world. Suddenly all Hell broke loose!
Whitefire's brides, three Medusa, made invisible by the evil wizard's magic sprung upon the rogue, Whitefire himself threw a fireball among the others and the huge Golem sprang to life.
Their advance stalled the battle began in earnest. I can't begin to describe the magical energies that were spent but our heroes made no progress. First Earendil was slain with a single word from the wicked Arch-Mage, then Alkaia fell.
Clyw, made a break for the exit after stuffing Earendil's body into his bag of holding but then bravely decided to return for Alkaia. This proved his undoing allowing Whitefire to rain down his magical missiles unchecked. Clyw fell. Thebia left with no choice grabbed the Bag of Holding that now held Alkaia and Earendil' bodies and fled leaving Clyw behind.
We end with her standing just beyond the misty veil on the bridge they had crossed earlier.
What will she do now? Find out next week.

Thebia saves the day. Athena’s Armour, counter attack begun.

Events 0330 - 0458 5/3/4449

Thebia called upon Athena to revive Alkaia and Earendil. As new life coursed through their veins she is gifted with a vision of a white suite of armour in Grimlon Castle high above...
Alkaia uses her magic to sneak back within the squat tower, the Misty barrier now recognised as a portal to the elemental plane of earth. Whitefire is there still preparing for his ritual and she sneaks Clyw’s body out. Using the Raise Dead scroll they had been saving all our heroes were now returned to life.
It was decided they would first try recover the armour envisioned by Thebia and they raced to the castle high above. The entrance was guarded by Ettins however Earendil flew them over the walls and they entered the palace...
Deep within they found what they came for but first had to sneak past a terrible demon. Almost discovered they eventually fled with their prize back to the tower below.

Until next week.

The Scarlet Sprinke foiled. Whitefire killed. Earendil Disintigrated!

Events 0458 5/3/4449 - - 0800 5/3/4449

Returning through the veil to the plane of earth the scene had changed. The Scarlet Sprinkle had begun.
Blood red lightning illuminated the rocky cavern and sheathed the huge stone form below the alter platform where Whitefire and his brides were preparing to slaughter the newborns of Nho!
Alkaia, Thebia and Clyw; cloaked in ranger magic snuck into cover by the feet of the proto-golem whilst bold Earendil, surrounded by Mitra’s Lions took flight and flew straight at the chanting wizard.
Earendil’s spells could not penetrate Whitefire’s wards but the cleric soaked up damage from powerful spells and shrugged off the petrifying glares of the Meducae whilst below the others chipped away at the inert rock form.
The screams of the doomed babies and the crashing lighting intensified. Clyw risking an arrow shot at the Arch-Mage before returning to fight the snake haired hags who had descended to torment Alkaia.
Earendil’s courage had outstretched his ability’s however and with a terrible cry he was blasted to dust by Whitefire’s last high level spell; Disintigrate!
Spurred on Thebia and Clyw killed the last Medusa. Alkaia advanced up the stairs towards the alter, sheltering the infants to her bosom causing the wizard to pause... this proved his undoing. Thebia sprinting forward hacking at the evil abjurer with huge blows from Ashrune which burned his Veridian flesh to the bone, he fell to his knees and it was Clyw, like a shadow who finished him off. Whitefire, only son of the Green Emperor was dead!
With a great wrench the pocket dimension vanished returning the party to within the squat back tower. Here they found the mothers and children from Nho and much treasure.
But victory was tinged with bitterness. They mourned the death of their friend, Earendil. Caliph of Caer Cadwen and High Priest of Mitra.
We leave them here until next week.

Ode to Earendil

Blood of ancient scions flowed
In veins of purest weal
When Earendil chose Mitra’s path
Was forged a will of steel.

Bondage broken, path revealed
A prophecy made real
Bold spirit leading from the front
Master of high ideals.

Through many battles boldly won
With courage, grace and zeal
‘Till at Grimlon he met his doom
Crushed ‘neath Whitefire’s heel.

Gone too soon, the lion sleeps
In Mitra’s golden halls
Watching patiently to see
The evil empire fall!

Review of Session 98. (Tuesday 23rd June 2020)

Akando, Amiondel and Owls. New page of prophesy revealed.

Players and their characters
Genghisdon with Akando, Sword Knight of Bondorr. Altani Barbarian..

Events 0800 5/3/4449 - 1800 5/3/4449

Leaving the ugly squat tower the party noticed two things. The clouds above were bright and seemed to be shaped like a mighty lion while below, across the narrow bridge a red skinned Barbarian was battling a large Amiondel patrol.
Racing to his help these were brutally dispatched but others were streaming forth from Grimlon Castle on the hill above.
It was Lord Sandar and his owls who rescued them, flying them swiftly to Actun and to the Narith where King Redon and Lutheia High Priestess of Cilboreth awaited in great sorrow. For the shade of Anstruth had also visited them at dawn with the grave tidings.
Anstruth also brought the next verse of The Prophecy.

Sea Rune’s Daughter
Lady and Fool
Emperor’s child and
Lord’s deadly duel
Mer and Menhir
Their empires are crumbling
Hags, Normoot and Rag King
To war they are tumbling
Ancient reeds shifted
Bold heroes were daring

This and much other news that we shall discuss next week.

Review of Session 99. (Tuesday 30th June 2020)

Council taken, plans made.

Players and their characters
Genghisdon with Akando, Sword Knight of Bondorr. Altani Barbarian..

Events 1800 5/3/4449 -0700 19/3/4449

The mourning rituals lasted a week and the political discussions almost that long again with the Orbs of Morg proving priceless in the flow of information.
These are the abridged versions of what was learned.

The Natchai and the Amiondel have fled Grimlon following the death of Whitefire. The thralls of Natch-Ur to their one remaining stronghold at the Obelisk of Feigh, North of the Gigabolt Mountains where Wu Ug their Prelate yet remains. The wicked elves to the shores of the Trident Gulf at Nho, where it seems they are fearful of taking to their boats for fear of the Chaos Fleet.

Regarding the Chaos Fleet and it’s Master, Lord Pyaray, Elf spies informed the party that it was totally out of the Green Emperor’s control and that the whole of Ghoulost Island was gone, churned into the stuff of raw chaos.

At Caer Cadwen, Lady Rosmix has taken command and invited the rebel forces of Tel-Qa into an alliance putting a mighty force within two days hard march of the City of Spices...

Bad news too came from that quarter as the tribes raised at the Conclave of Lake Saffrin (19/2/4448) by Harlgrimn had dispersed and sacked Munj as they went.

The most pressing problem however was that of the Invincible Overlord declaring open War on Veridistan. For their own realm of Grimalon lay between the two forces. At the urging of King Redon diplomatic channels have been established with both sides.

Finally after almost two weeks plans were laid for the next chapter of their bold adventures. They are to head for Bitter Ridge and seek audience with Falsum the Black Dragon in the hope he will ally himself with them to drive the Amiondel from Nho. From there they hope to head to Thebia’s capital, At-Kadeen where better to work their schemes.

Until next week..

Review of Session 100. (Tuesday 14th July 2020)

Some old friends and Falsum the Magnificent!

Players and their characters
Genghisdon with Akando, Sword Knight of Bondorr. Altani Barbarian..

Events 0700 1/4/4449 - 1100 5/4/4449

A small party of noble elves waited to wave off our heroes on their journey. Among them some friends from the past. Peewit Caroo, summoned by elf magic ro once more serve Clyw, Thebia's warhorse, Vykhor, Mr. Piggles (spoiled rotten by Alkaia who fed him turnips)and the two Hobbit children they had rescued from the Ettins so long ago, Nettleblossom and Surefoot, Shortshanks. This made for a merry parting as they made their way upriver to Plychen where Lord Crenley, now castellian invited them to breakfast and caught them up with local events.
Further upriver they took the left fork into the swift flowing Erlag before disembarking and making their way into the foothills of the Bitter Ridge. The closer they got to Falsum's Valley lair the more tortuous the terrain became. Clouds of choking mist and twisted vegetation seemed derermined to slow their progress until finally they made camp for a restless night at the foot of the valley entrance.
Passing a grissly reminder of the human sacrifices offered each year they followed the winding path until it dipped into a wide ravine. Here they found hoards of scaly black, winged Kobolds who's leader took them into the presence of the ancient wyrm.
Flattery was used to good advantage and offers made to the great beast but it seems he wanted only one thing. He made his counter offer and we shall find out their answer next week.

Falsum: "You are the Lords of Grimalon, Elf Friends to that rotter, Redon in Actun and with a little effort could also take the throne at Grimlon beyond the mountains. Friends like you could help me expand my realm. Give me your word and that of the King of Actun that the lands south of the Hoary Mountains, West of the Erlag to the sea and north of the Nho river shall be mine for ever without interference and you shall have my help...."

A deal is made with Falsum. The road to At-Kadeem.

Players and their characters
Genghisdon with Akando, Sword Knight of Bondorr. Altani Barbarian..

Events 1100 5/4/4449 - 1600 7/4/4449

The bargain was struck though agreement would be required from King Redon at Actun.
Falsum sent his vizier, the Wizard Rratzz with them to act in his stead when the agreement was formalised. He proved an amiable traveling companion and particularly taken with Clyw. They shared confidences long into the night and some light was shed on Falsum’s poverty and his links with Nho through an ancient Kelnorian pact.
Morning saw them heading for the Erlag where Alkaia brought down a young deer and they enjoyed a fine dinner before boarding their magical boat en route to At-Kadeem where we shall pick things up again next week.

At-Kadeen and the Chimera Meroom.

Players and their characters
Genghisdon with Akando, Sword Knight of Bondorr. Altani Barbarian..

Events 1600 7/4/4449 - 0500 9/4/4449BCCC.

At-Kadeem.

Paladin Camus of Mitra’s Shield Hall and the new Council of At-Kadeem await their new Lords in the Market Place.
The wooden palisade that once surrounded the Gnoll village has been repaired and strengthened with stone sections as time... and funds have allowed.
The beautifully if macabrely carved homes within the walls are now mainly inhabited by refugees from Hankam, Hylmdale, Landmarch and other towns and villages ravaged by the Altani hoard. Some once subjects of the Invincible Overlord as well as those who suffered the tyranny of the Red Reavers.
It is now home to some 1,600 souls.
After a stirring speech from Thebia they repaired to the feast hall where Scout Ansili, Ranger-Paladin of the Shield Hall had tidings.

“Although Burlack, High Priest of Harmakhis and Red Reaver was slain by Hakeem Greywolf and his Altani hoard when they sacked Hlymad it seems his assistant, the Half Orc, Dolan escaped and has fled to Southguard Castle where the River Buckol leaves the Hoary Mountains, bellow the Crossings of Quoth.
Southguard was the last bastion of Veridistan, guarding the southern approach to Grimlon but with the fall of the Shah and the current turbulence within the empire it’s Captain, Tolkar has allied with Dolan and they are building a great force of Veridian deserters, the renegade Gnolls of Scaney under Foxling, Hobgoblins and Wargs with which they, I am sure intend to retake the lands that are now yours. They are too many for us to defeat in the field. But I know a secret way into Southguard.. but it is protected by a terrible monster. If you can slay this you could come at Dolan and Tolkar directly. Crush them and their fledgling army will likely fall upon themselves. It will at least buy us a little time.”

(The creature in question is Meroom, a dreadful Chimera. Offspring of the Green Emperor and the Arch Devil, Glasya.)

Having found the tunnel leading to Meroom’s lair under Castle Southguard, Alkaia crept within but the creature’s senses were keen. With a great sweep of its wings it took to the air and was about to descend on the hapless Ranger when Akando and the others arrived.
The battle will begin next week.

Review of Session 103. (Tuesday 11th August 2020)

Death of the Chimera Meroom and into Casrle Southguard.

Players and their characters
Genghisdon with Akando, Sword Knight of Bondorr. Altani Barbarian..

Events 0500 - 0700 9/4/4449BCCC.

Clyw kept the huge beast at bay while his friends peppered it with stones and arrows, until eventually, confused it managed to get to grips with Thebia and almost tore her in two with its fierce attacks. But by this time it's days were numbered and between them they buthered the creature. After taking time to collect..ahem, trophies they sent Peewhit Caroo up through the well into the castle to scout then, followed a climbing Clyw up a rope to explore properly.
They were disturbed by Foxling the former Gnoll chief of Skaney doing his rounds and the fight attracted the attention of others from higher in the tower. A human fighter and a big Hobgoblin. The human did not do well, fist getting thrown down the stairs by a raging Akando then stabbed to death by a waiting Clyw and Thebia. The Hobgoblin is fighting Akando half way up the staircase having just saved against Clyw's magic and we will join them for round 6 next week.

Initiatives.
#23 ?
#22 Thebia
#21 Akando
#20 Clyw
#11 Hobgoblin
