[Starfinder] Trying to Choose Between Starfinder and Esper Genesis

For many years, since the first D&D game I ever played in (which was a sci-fi/fantasy mix), I've been looking for a good science fantasy version of D&D. I have been blessed recently by having both Starfinder and Esper Genesis to look at.

What I like about Esper Genesis is that it's 5e-compatible. So I can mix and match it with the D&D PHB to create a science fantasy game like I'm envisioning. It's already got some rules for psionics. The classes are okay. The races don't really strike me, but I need to look over them again. Downside is that there's no SRD. There are free basic rules that go to 10th level, but I don't think they have all the options.

Starfinder, in contrast, is a lot more rules-heavy, being a child of the Pathfinder/3e era. However, it's got a really neat setting. I love the races. The classes are pretty neat too. Magic and the gods are incorporated into the setting already, though I wish it psionics rules. The mystic kind of covers that territory and Dreamscarred Press will have a psion of some sort. Plus, I love the races. There's a lot more materials, both from Paizo and third parties. And an SRD, so a lot easier to get players online. Still, I sometimes feel like a deer caught in the headlights.

I could use EG rules with SF's setting, but there's the whole conversion process.

And I know, why not play both? Thing is, I kind of want to run something and I'm having a hard time deciding.

Any thoughts on this?

If you are not familiar with the Starfinder rules, and you are familiar with Pathfinder than Starfinder may not be your cup of tea. I like Starfinder, but I'm not completely in love with it. The classes have a built in kit/PrC thing, akin to 5E...and there are only seven classes. Every character has a theme, which is some-what similar to D20 Modern Occupations, but the character gains additional abilities as they gain character levels. The inherent mechanical differences between Pathfinder and Starfinder were enough to not completely hook me on it.

Personally, I’m a fan of the genre.
But,… I kind of decided that if I had to learn a new system, it was going to be 5e, since Pathfinder is coming out with a new 2.0. Which means that I would personally go with EG, for compatibility’s sake, though I’ve only read reviews of it.
I would suggest picking the system you like better, honestly. But, as you pointed out, that does mean conversion. I would personally be converting Spelljammer as my chosen setting, but, I’m the kind of guy that prefers to play in a single system at a time, regardless of the setting.
