2300 BC Art

Postby Chimpman » Tue Oct 02, 2012 7:46 am

Well... I figured I might as well start one of these things up too ;).

Seriously though, my daughter picked up a drawing book a few days ago that just happened to cover digital painting... and armed with a few new techniques, I decided to start redoing some of my own art. This first attempt is the dwarf face that adorns the Shimmering Lands Gaz cover.

Not only does the new drawing look better (IMO) it was a lot quicker to produce.

Nice! Makes me wish I could draw more than stick figures. The Chronicle would be a lot prettier if that were the case...

Keep at it!

Wow! That is a really cool piece! What's the book that your daughter picked up? And are you using a tablet?

Yeah, I'm using a rather old tablet - I believe it is a Wacom Intuos 2. It's not a bad little device... funny thing is I think I saw it on a picture of one of the artist's desks in the books my daughter got. I've been drooling over the latest generation of tablets... but I'll have to wait for them to drop in price by several thousand dollars

I'm quite impressed with the books my daughter picked up. They are:

Dracopedia: A Guide to Drawing the Dragons of the World

and

Dracopedia The Great Dragons: An Artist's Field Guide and Drawing Journal

Both are geared towards drawing dragons, but it was easy enough to adapt the techniques for other subjects.

Wow, this is great! His right eye looks creepy - is that an effect of the Wasting?

Only in an indirect way. This one is a Yardrak, so it's an effect of a demonic pact

Ah, the Yardrak...they're going to feature in my campaign. He should really get those teeth looked at, though. ;-)

Wow, the digitally-enhanced version has an order of magnitude improvement over the original version. Great work!

<shiver> I shudder to think of what you're going to do with the Yardrak GG

Here's another Shimmering Lands dwarf - this one with some signs of the Wasting. I did this one today after getting home from work.
