Tie down the surrenders. We have something to check back in their lair.

Demara's ruins east of Krondsfield
Scene IV - Hralen, Thaumont, Early Spring, 17th day, 993 AC

"Beldar and Lordan are wounded, we should look after them", Silverleaf the elf says.
Delvar the dwarf, helped by the wizard Morganth and Slinker the thief tie down the captured enemies, including the blocked ones as the lizardman cleric. Bellithiel and Taran take care of the wolves, carefully setting them free in the woods.
"Nothing dangerous should now be inside the ruins - Kesh says - I should look after the wounded with the others while Lucius, Bofar, Bellithiel and Taran return inside to search for the Orb and any other useful item they can find".

Lucius goes back into the ruin, looking for the place where he felt the key seemed to activate.

Bofar follows Lucius. Are you seeking something?

Indeed. Remember that key I picked up from the ogre's chest? Might be connected to that treasure. We'll see...

You go back inside with Taran and Bellithiel. Taran asks about the key and tells you Bonegnasher and his minions were about to find something in the area of the former cellar, now turned into a mine.
You go through the first room and the chapel and return to the cellar where the orcs and the human prisoners were digging. Lucius can hear little sounds from the platinum key shaped as a flute, and Bofar and the others too.
"Probably the key has to be used somehow?" Bellithiel says.

The key looks like a somekind of a musical instrument. Maybe you have to play it someway.

"I can play a tune decently, let me try!" Bellithiel says.
Indeed when the elf woman tries to play the "key" she obtains a low tune which raises in volume or diminish depending on her movements in the cellar.

Maybe the right place is where the sound is loudest.

Indeed Bellithiel follows Bofar's suggestion and tries playing the key-flute in several different locations of the cellar turned into a mine. The sound is clearly louder where the orcs and the captured group was digging more recently. Bofar can judge quite easily that this particular work on the stone started just this very day or a day early, so it seems Bonegnasher had recently figured the power of the key-flute and pinpointed the spot.
Bofar, Taran and Lucius pick up nearby pickaxes and spades and continue digging.
Soon they free a carved stone door bearing a complex symbol of birds and crowns, maybe the haraldic symbol of the mythical King Demara. The door has a keyhole, and the key-flute in the hands of Bellithiel seems a perfect fit for it.
"Should I?" the elf asks.

Bellithiel inserts and turns the key, which works. The stone door moves with a low sound and you see just dark at first, but then two torches light up on opposite walls, illuminating a long chamber dominated by a throne with a mummified corpse on it, with a shield on its lap and a crown on its head. The corpse does not move, but the shadows created by the torches move strangely, and they are coming toward you!

The door is heavy and hard to move, yet Bofar manages to push it, nearly closing it, but the two Shadows reach him before he can complete the move. One shadow touches him on the arm and immediately Bofar feels weaker.
The other one tries to reach Lucius, but the Thyatian suceed in avoiding its touch.

Taran and Bellithiel runs to help you and together you succeed in closing the door. But one Shadow touches Bofar another time, and the dwarf falls down, passing away. Once the door is closed, the Shadow are brought back into the room with the corpse, as if "sucked" by the light cast by the two torches.

You bring Bofar outside, telling Kesh and the others what happened.
"It seems I was completely wrong about no more dangers being inside - Kesh says - the good news is the weakness experienced by Bofar is temporary. The bad news is we have encountered Shadows, malignant magical creatures which can drain your strenght and turn you into one of them, and can be harmed only by magical weapons. I cannot destroy them, so our only chance is to destroy them before they turn one of us into a shadow. But we all have magical weapons, so we can succeed if we go prepared, what do you think? I will come too, this time".
Bofar indeed wakes up as Kesh cast a minor healing on him. He still feels a bit weak, but he has no wounds.

When Bofar is back on his feet, Kesh leads you back into the castle. He advises the other adventurers not to follow, because they do not have magical weapons except for a knife. Bofar feels a bit weaker, but still in shape to fight back. Kesh however ask Lucius to take the front line with him, to avoid Bofar being hit again.
"We should retreat a bit when the shadows come out, as we will need space to be able to attack them. We can only use melee weapons and so we should try to surround them, even if it will not be completely possible as it seems they are linked to the torches in the tomb. Let's try to dispatch them as quickly as possible", Kesh says.
Taran goes to the stone door to open it again.

As soon as the stone door is opened, the Shadows come out again and attack.
Kesh and Lucius hit the first one, while Taran and Bellithiel attack the second one, but the elf wizard, who has only a magical knife, misses.
Bofar instead hits with his hammer. He feels little consistency in the shadowy form, but the creature shrieks as if in pain.
The Shadows strike back at Kesh and Bellithiel, but both manages to block their tendrils, only vaguely looking like arms.
You attack again. This time Kesh misses while Lucius scores a solid hit, cleaving on half the Shadow, apparently dividing it in half for a while. But somehow the creature reforms, ready to attack again.
Taran and Bellithiel both hit the other Shadow, while Bofar misses this time. It is hard to tell if the creature is wounded, giving its shifting form.
The Shadows attack again. Kesh avoid the hit, while Bellithiel this time is gripped on the neck by a tendril of darkness, becomes pale and staggers.
You renew the attack and both Kesh and Lucius hit the Shadow, which suddenly goes out and disappear with hardly a sound.
Taran, Bellithiel and Bofar do the same and all manages to hit the other Shadow, which disappear as well with a feeble sound as of extinguished ash.
"Damn these things made me nostalgic of the ogre", Bellithiel says, sitting for a while to rest.
