Is there any possibility that he might help us, as an alternative to any other swamp dweller?

"I am not very optimistic on that. He was exiled for banditry, something very rare from an elf. I would not be surprised to find him in the service of the Iron Ring", Taran says.
"Anyway we do not have a clue where he may be, so we still have to walk to the north west, and hope we will find a guide there!", Retameron says.

You use the scented cream to keep mosquitoes away, and use the long poles to navigate the shallow waters. Still, going straight to the north west is immediately proven very difficult by the presence of gigantic trees with thick foliage, brushes with thorns and large area when the water is too deep to walk. The swamp is full of insects, fish, lizards, frogs and birds, but nothing dangerous so far.
"We would really need a raft", Taran says.
"Maybe if we can reach that village of which the elves spoke we can obtain one", Desmond says.
Some of you are also attacked by leeches, which are quite numerous in the waters.
You also get a big scare when two gigantic water termites, about 2 feet long, run away at your approach. Not too distant, there is a mound with dozens of them. But the creatures do not bother you.
It takes almost an hour to cover little more than one mile, until you find another river, recognizable from the surrounding shallow waters only because it runs faster to the west and has some argins of dry land and rocks around. The river is smallest than the Dragos, but still a hundred yards wide, with no ford on sight. On the other side, you clearly see some strange creatures looking at you.
Image
For a moment, you think they are giant frogs, but then you realize they wear clothes and carry lances. As soon as they see you looking at them, they disappear in half submerged caves.
"What we do now? We could try to obtain their help, if possible", Retameron says.

Cardia, Halia and Alexei try to call the hidden creatures in several ways, using magic too, but without much success. They do not come out, and in the meantime the evening is coming.
"I have a rare map from Rosentos' old expedition, drawn by one of the rare survivors, but the area indicated seems to be several miles to the south, probably we should follow the river, with a raft", Desmond says.
"We will have to camp here and build a raft tomorrow", Retameron says.
Kesh come nearer to you three and Bellithiel.
"Should we use the thing the two witches gave us or not?", he asks.

The gold nugget. I had totally forgotten that. Yes, I think we should use it.

"I should go a bit fa away to use that nugget, just in case", Bellithiel says, then she discuss a bit with , Desmond and Arteris. After that, she walks away with Taran.
Retameron and the others direct everyone to build a camp and gather wood to build the raft tomorrow.
But before you have done much, Ludovico and Sam warn you someone is approaching from the south.
You stand alert immediately and see several figures, more than 10. Some do not look like humans, but reptilians. One however rise to address your group.
"Who are you and what you are doing here?", he asks, with a male but melodious voice..

"We could ask you the same thing, I'd say", Retameron answers.
"We are here with native inhabitants and we know the swamp, while you seem the kind of clueless treasure seekers who fertilize it with blood", the voice says.
"We are not so clueless nor defenseless, but we could benefit from some guidance and we could pay for it", Retameron says.
"Then we can parley", the voice says, coming out in the open. He is an elf with light brown hair and light armour and a large hat. With him there are several human men, two women and some lizardmen and troglodytes, for a total of 15. You are impressed to see the lizardmen Image and the troglodytes Image but more than that, you soon notice that some of the humans have iron rings quite similar to others you have already seen before..

Retameron and Cardia talk with the elf, while his men, including he lizardmen and the troglodytes, build a small camp not far from your own. Arteris and Desmond remain uncospicuous. Both your group and their eat something in the falling evening, but no one risk building a fire for fear of attract too much attention. The climate is humid and cold with the sun down as it was humid and hot with the sun up, so quite unpleasant.
Eventually Sam manages to build a well shielded fire to provide at least a measure of heat. The two group do not fraternize, but among themselves and with you, Sam, Halia and Sharllaya also say they have recognized the iron rings, and look quite worried.
"We cannot accept any help from them but if we send them away now we will look suspicious and they surely will follow us", Sam says.
"Maybe we should attack during the night trying to surprise them", Halia says.
"But if there are more of them, then we could have others hunting us", Kesh says.

Besides, we are on their ground now. They know the area. We are in a huge disadvantage here. I think, it would be a suicide to attack them. Who knows how many of those lizard guys are out there just waiting for us to make a wrong move.

"I cannot say you are wrong here", Halia says.
"Let's wait a bit and see what's happens", Kesh says.
The elf is still talking with Retameron and Cardia when Bellithiel and Taran return with another troglodyte.
The creature advances to talk to Retameron and Cardia as well, then another troglodyte from the group of the elf joins them too. After a while Bellithiel returns to speak to you.
"We used the nugget and the troglodyte appeared offering to guide us to their nearest village. It seems the elf and his group offered themselves as guides too, but Retameron now said to them we are directed south, while them were going north, so the elf apparently accepted that. But I bet they want to know what we are doing here and they will follow us. And I fear they are of the Iron Ring, here to do something for Von Hendriks. Our new guide has said something I do not know exactly what does mean: 'The Lords have granted passage both to you and them, but for opposite reasons'".
Eventually you go to sleep, posting two guards always. The group of the elf sleeps in the area too. The humans and him at the centre, the troglodytes among themselves and the lizardmen by the waters. The troglodyte who arrived with Bellithiel however does not sleep near the others of his races, and you notice that his skin colour is different, more brown than grey. He also has a strange but not totally unpleasant odour.
"They can create a terrible smell when attacking, and also change their skin colour to surprise you", Sam says.
"Tomorrow we will follow Desmond's map to the south, the trog will guide us. We should try to lose the elf and his group, but I fear it will not be so easy", Retameron says.

You spend a quiet night, even if wary of any noise which come from the swamp, and the day later your trog guide leads you to the south west, for a distance of about 4 miles. The elf and his group come with you, saying they were headed for the same destination, the troglodyte town of The PIllars of Ka. The terrain is as before very hard to travel and between unpassable pools, moving sands and the necessity of creating passages in several places, the guide tells you it will take almost a day to reach the town.
The elf and his group move quietly some hundred yards behind you, using also small rafts in some points. During the morning you meet a numerous group of caymen, travelling in the opposite direction toward the frogfolk village. They resemble small lizardmen, with olive green skin, but you notice they have elaborated clothes and tools. Your troglodyte guide speaks a bit to them, then they continue their course, speaking peacefully for a while also with the elf's group.
Later in the afternoon, when you are almost to your destination, you hear a commotion and soon realize some vegetation is attacking you. Arteris has been grabbed by two lianes and is obviously in pain and entangled. Two similar appendices have attacked Sharllaya, Taran and Bellithiel, who managed to avoid them. Two more attack Bofar. The lianes fail to grab the dwarf, but one whips him on the face, causing pain and an intense acidic smell.
"Whipweeds!", your troglodyte guide cries in warning.

Fain Flinn tries to help Arteris, but he is caught by the liane too. Keio and Sharllaya have more success, hitting the creature against Sharllaya, which however keeps fighting back. The troglodyte too tries to help them, but he is betrayed by the terrain and falls in a pool of mud.
Desmond, Ludovico and Sara however intervene to help Arteris and Fain, hitting the first creature.
Retameron, Sam and Taran manage to hit the creature against Taran and Bellithiel.
Kesh, Bofar and Lucius attack the creature against the dwarf, but the lianes are really hard to cut, being so thick and fast, so they just manage to nick them. They see however the main body of the plant creature is a sort of globe made of roots on the ground.
Taradain sees the elf group is a bit too far to intervene in any way, separated from you by several treacherous pools and thick trees. They have just realized something is attacking you, but cannot get near in time.
The young woman has a spot to fire her crossbow against the plant attacking Arteris, hitting it. The plant seems to become slower, indicating maybe it has been hurt. Still it keeps strangling Arteris and Fain Flinn, who struggle to get free growling in pain.
The other plant tries to hit Sharllaya, but the woman manages to avoid it again.
The third one grabs Taran, bringing him down to the mud.
The fourth tries to grab Bofar again. The dwarf manages to resist, but again the acid in the liane painfully hurts him in the arms.

The troglodyte guide manages to cut the plant strangling Arteris and Fain, freeing them. Taradain hits the thing again, which finally stops and falls.
Retameron and Bellithiel succeed in hitting the other plant too, and the thing finally stop moving as well.
Kesh and Lucius hit the main body of the third plant while Bofar is trying to keep it away. The plant finally stays back, drifting into a pool and disappearing. Bofar has some acid burns, as Arteris, Fain Fllin and Taran, but nothing too bad. Kesh, Sara and Alexei soon are able to heal them completely.
"Bad plants. Have no fear, are dangerous", the troglodyte guide says.
"Yes we noticed that" Fain Flinn says.
"We should be near the troglodyte town now", Retameron says.
The guide nods and soon, after a few more trees, streams and ponds, you see a small hill with big circular grey stones around and a bigger white stone on top. All around the mound there are smaller one that you realize are troglodyte homes. The town is relatively big, and when your guide approaches, many armed troglodyte come forward to look at him and you.
After he speaks with them for a while, you are directed to a spot of dry lands among the trees, about 6o yards from the circle of stones, where you are allowed to camp and, if you want, to light a fire.
"Night is falling, tomorrow you will be able to speak with the High Shaman here. He will answer question in exchange for gold and silver, which they use to trade with caymen, gatormen and humans", the guide says.
Soon after you, the elf's group too arrive near the town, and is assigned a spot to camp on the opposite side of yours.

Note: Thanks to Oleck for the Blight Swamp compilation he made http://pandius.com/blight_swamp_compilation.pdf (maybe do not read it right now even if I modified a bit his material :)

Westron road, Blight Swamp
Scene LII - Hwyrlen, Flaurmont 12th day, 993 AC

"I agree completely with you Bofar, I am not aware of swamp gnomes in the world", Kesh says.
"We do not know swamp elves or humans either. This land is probably a place for walking lizards only", Retameron says.
"I heard of some hin who trade with swamp people, but they are on the other side of it", Sam says.
"Let's try to sleep and we will see what tomorrow will bring", Halia says.
The morning after Arteris, Retameron, Desmond, Alexei and Bellithiel go to speak with the troglodyte shamans along with the trog guide, and return soon after, then always preceded by the guide, you leave the town to continue south east. The troglodytes have provided, upon payment, some reed rafts to facilitate your travel.
"It seems the golden nugget indeed was vital to our survival, as it protects us from the dragons who rule the swamp and send minions to kill mercilessly any intruder. Still the shaman and the guide hinted there are several different opinions among the dragons, and some may still choose to hinder us non directly. Also, the nugget does not protect us from the many other dangers of the swamp. Now we are directed to a spot indicated on Desmond's map. From there, we should be able to follow the old Rosentos expedition whose few surviving members told to have seen the Orb. It's the best clue we have", Retameron explains later.
The day is sunny and humid, your next stop is an area inhabited by chameleon men, which according to the guide are not too friendly. Still, you have to pass there to follow Desmond's map.
The elf and his group have not left with you, and apparently are not following, but it's hard to tell in the swamp.
By early afternoon, after a brief meal, you have to pass an region where the water is up to your hips, proceeding cautiously with equipment on rafts and wooden poles. Suddenly Lucius and Taradain all feel a great pain in a leg, and cries come out from Kesh, Alexei, Sam and Shuur, your trog guide, too. Giant, reddish-brown leeches about 3'-4' long have attacked them and are sucking their blood.
Two more jump from the water to Bofar and Halia, who narrowly avoids them.
Lucius and Taradain feel the leech is sucking their blood very fast, and realize they will not have much time before passing out and dying.
