Act 3 - New Roads
Scene I - On The Black Octopus, Night of the 13th Day (Thaumont, 13th 990 AC)

Mikel grabs Taradain and start to take her away, while the adventurers try to grab Fortunato and the others. The previously calm face of the fine dressed man is now slightly annoyed, and he begin to fight against the adventurers, with some sea birds, live and dead sailors on his side.
All becomes confused then as your allies try to reach The Stefania. Larius eventually pushes Tiberius toward your ship.
Then there are several explosions which hit both The Stefania and the Torenescu ship, allowing The Black Octopus to escape. Both your ships will need extensive repairs before you will be able to return to Specularum.
As soon as the situation calm down, and several people are pull out of the waters, you are able to check who has made it.
Mikel, Taradain and Tiberius are safe and unscathed on The Stefania.
The Vorloi adventurers are all back, but Anton the cleric and Adrjan the warrior are grievously wounded.
Fortunato and Trark have been rescued, but they have been locked up because they keep telling they want to return to "their friend".
Gharis and Marius are nowhere to be found, either dead or still captives.
Tatjana and Turano are not with you, but later you discover that Tatjana is on the Torenescu ship, while Turano has been killed.
Of the girls in the hold with Taradain, Carla (the thief), Adriana (the adventuress) and Mila (the farmer) are here on The Stefania, while Irina (the prostitute) is not here, either dead or still captive.
You have rescued Fortunato and almost half of the captives, but lost as many men of your crews.
"The damn Black Octopus is a dangerous ship, and its captain has some strange magic. The adventurers think he is some kind of undead, or a necromancer. I'm happy we have rescued you, Taradain, Trark and Fortunato, but I'm not sure we can count this as a victory - Mikel says later to you - I will not shed a tear for Turano's death, honestly, but I'm sorry about Gharis and Marius, the lost men and the captives we were unable to save. This will be a long war, I fear, and it was necessary to prove to the slavers that we will fight them at every turn and we will not rest until they are all destroyed. I need sleep now, tomorrow I hope Fortunato and Trark will have shaken off the cursed necromancer's magic."
With that Mikel show you where you can sleep on the second deck in the crowded ship.

Act 3 - New Roads
Scene II - On The Stefania, Night of the 13th Day and 14th day (Thaumont, 13th-14th 990 AC)

As soon as possible, someone of the crew free all the captives from chains and plank.
You soon fall asleep where you can, as you are very tired after such a day.

The morning after the crew is busy repairing the ship, and The Ivanovitch, the Torenescu ship, is near to help you and receive help if needed. You can help with repairs or speak to anyone you wish to speak to.
During the day Kleon, the cleric of Halav with the Thorns, the adventurers in service of the Vorloi, and others, including Tatjana, offer their aid to examine Fortunato and Trark. Mikel is a bit unconfortable about Tatjana, as she led the Traladaran revolt in which he was too beaten and captured, but is willing to let the matter go in the present situation.
Eventually she, Kleon and also Anton, cleric of Petra and member of The Towers, the adventurer in Torenescu's service, try to dispel the charm on Fortunato and Trark, and they succeed.
Fortunato is happy to see you again. He tells you he was captured while examining The Black Octopus, on the night of Thaumont 11th, and then, at some point in the following day, he met the fine dressed man in a room. He soon became convinced the man was his best friend, and told him anything he knew.
"I fear I may have told him a lot about the Vorloi ships and operations - he explains - he had some sort of powerful magic for sure. I'm sad about Nero, Marius and the other men who were with me. All dead or captive now. I know their families, and I will do all that is possible to free them, or avenge them. The first thing to do will be to destroy their base of operation in your home village, Tiberius. Then we will have to fight them wherever they are hiding in Specularum, and they probably have powerful protections among the more racist Thyatians of Karameikos.. "

Act 3 - New Roads
Scene II - On The Stefania, the 14th day (Thaumont, 14th 990 AC)

The day is spent fully in reparations of the two ships. Mikel says you will probably be able to return to Specularum by tomorrow evening (Evening of 15th Thaumont).
Carla and the other girls who were almost re-captured thanks Tiberius for his instrumental help.
Carla is a thief and was sold to slavery by a rival. "I'd like very much to pay him back for this - she says to Tiberius and Taradain - and I'd also like to hit those damn slavers hard. Maybe we could be allies in the future. Interrogating the one who sold me could be the first thing to do... Adriana agrees, as her former companions are either dead or captives".
Adriana is an adventuress who was captured while exploring Specularum's Undercity. She may be able to trace her steps back to a slavers hideout in the Undercity.
The other girl who befriended Taradain, Mila, is just a farmer eager to return to her family just outside Specularum.
"I cannot stop thinking about the other girls who did not made it outside the ship, still in the hands of the slavers..."
Trark also has something to say to Taradain during the day.
"I have to thank you girl, because you led the adventurers to rescue me and Fortunato from the fine dressed man, but you were foolish. He was clearly too powerful for us, and moreso for you. You should not have taken such a risk. I'm thinking you really must have some Immortal looking over you. I hope he or she will continue to do so.. Still I'm in your debt and I will do everything I can to aid you in the future. What are your plans? I suppose you and Tiberius will be welcomed as heroes in Specularum.."

To Carla and Adriana "I will be glad to help you both any time anywhere but as this outing has shown i have a long way to go before i am ready

To Mila "That eats at me as well Mila. but on another note what is next for you? i mean in a few days we will have you home?

To Trark I chock my level of failing success up to pure dumb luck and really good friends backing me up. I know i should not have taken the risk. However you and Fortunato saw something in me that may take me a lifetime to understand and you are my friends if only newly found my father would roll over in his grave if i did not help you when you needed it. As for my plans for the future I wanted to be thief of great reknown but having beeen used to foment rebellion i think i will be lucky the guard does not put me in prison. I may be lauded as a hero but i am not one... yet!Tiberius though yes should be lauded as should you as you acquitted yourself beyond well. What of your future? What do you have planned.

to MiekelYou know when all this started All i wanted to do was watch the procession and for one day just one day have everyone live as people not Thyatians or Traldarans just people. My name has been used to foment rebellion. there are so many loose threads here Captain justinius, the people who he implicated in my parents murder and the slavers. and that does not even touch on what the judges or the duke himself might do to me. What do you think will happen?

To Tiberius So its been a rough couple of days. I think in the future we should definitely not seperate like that ever again beyond that You have any big plans ?

To Fortunato I would like to help bring justice to my home village and offer those willing a chance to change their ways. I suggest that the force sent be Thyatian so that they can see that Thyatians stand against them. I understand if that is not possible, but wanted to say my mind.

To Carla, Adrian, and Taradain After the slavers are defeated at my home village I would like to explore the undercity, carefully. I would be an honor to join with you in rooting out slavers.

To Taradain I am humbled by your compliment, but your bravery stands as the example. Not only did you get yourself and others free of the slavers hold but you risked all to save others. I would like to help you root out the slavers if you are willing.

To Trark Good to have you back. I look forward to resuming my language lessons, and maybe a learn a little about the Immortal you follow.

To All I'm ashamed of my Thyatian ancestors and the barbarity they have stooped too. I know longer desire to call myself a Thyatian and now consider myself a Karameikan first and foremost. I open my arms and heart to all that stand against slavery.

When Tiberius returns to Specularum and has time he visits the Church of Karameikos to see what it stands for and to petition the Immortals for direction in his life.

Act 3 - New Roads
Scene II - On The Stefania, the 14th day (Thaumont, 14th 990 AC)

To Taradain:
Carla and Adriana understand your concerns, you are still too much young to take such risks. They are willing to train you a bit in any skill they possess anyway.
Mila wants to go home as soon as possible. She doesn't really need an escort to her home village, the road is short and normally safe, but Mikel reassures her someone will accompany her home anyway.
Trark says he will continue living in Specularum and work for the church of Koryis. That will always means to oppose violents, racists and haters. Koryis is a pacifist Immortal, his followers do not use lethal weapons and believe that it is possible to resolve all problems and diatribe with dialogue. He admits however that could be particularly hard with the slavers. He would like an inclusive Karameikos, a nation willing to peacefully accept not only Traladarans and Thyatians, but also humanoids.
He says that if Taradain wants to become a good thief, he and Carla can certainly teach her something.
Mikel assures Taradain saying that probably nothing will happen "Both the Vorloi and Torenescu will guarantee for you and the Ducal authorities will not try to arrest you. I think they will not even try to arrest Tatjana, as she will certainly become a Traladaran hero for fighting the slavers. I do not particularly wish to see her in prison anyway, she spared my life during the rebellion, after all...

To Tiberius:
Fortunato says the matter of the home village is complicated. His brother Philip Vorloi and Cristoph Torenescu will probably be willing to take the matters into their own hands, but maybe they will first try to persuade the Ducal authorities to do something. To send only thyatians is a good idea, but all that will be discussed in the next days. He will inform you of any decision that will be taken however.
Carla and Adriana are willing to join with you. Indeed Mikel, Fortunato and The Thorns have the same goal in mind. Explore the Undercity and root out any slavers hideout they may find.
Trark is willing to resume the lessons any time you want and he tells to you too what said above to Taradain. Even if he doesn't use lethal weapons, he still knows one or two things about combat he can also teach to you.
"There is nothing wrong in being Thyatian - Fortunato says smiling - I mostly am and I will not forget my ancestors, even if my family has some Traladaran roots too. But we are all Karameikan now. Thyatians arrived in Traladara for the first time 90 years ago, almost four human generations ago. And even before that, Thyatians and Traladarans have been neighbours for at least 1500 years. It makes no sense to claim any Thyatian or Traladaran racial purity. Our cultures and our people are already mixed and will mix up more and more in the coming years. That's the reason why I know we will win and all those who wish to promote division and hatred will eventually lose. But it could take years, and no small amount of blood, to reach that goal. I know for sure I will work for it all my life and I welcome anyone of you who is wiling to work with me".

Trark can describe to you a bit the Church of Karameikos. The Church recognizes as main patrons Asterius, Tarastia, Vanya, Ilsundal and Kagyar. Valerias, Ixion, Patura, Protius, Diulanna, Chardastes, Halav, Khoronus, Tiresias, Wayland, Odin, Thor, Korys, Korotiku, Idraote and Carnelian are other Immortals whose clerics may theorically join the Church. With a pantheon so big, obviously the Church contains a lot of different factions, often in contrast among them.
For example, the Church is officially against slavery, but the matter is very much debated in it as Tarastia and Ilsundal are absolutely against it, but Vanya is in favor and Asterius and Kagyar have a middle position...

Act 3 - New Roads
Scene III - Returning to Specularum, the 15th day (Thaumont, 15th 990 AC)

(I am moving a bit forward now and reuniting you with the others in Specularum, but Taradain and Tiberius can still post anything else they may want to add in reply to the posts above)

Finally on the morning of Thaumont 15th both ships are able to set sails again to return to Specularum. The wind is very good and you are in sight of the city by the same evening.
The arrival of the ships is welcomed by some agitation on the docks. By the time the ships actually touch the wharf, there is a growing crowd saluting and cheering at you.
"Come one, it's our time!" Fortunato says to Taradain and Tiberius, inviting them to descend the gangway. He lets you go first, then he follows with Trark, Mikel and the Thorns, the Vorloi adventurers, and some of the people freed, as Carla and Adriana.
A roar of enthusiasm rises from the crowd, and very soon you are among a sea of people trying to touch and hug you.
A similar roar welcomes on the nearby wharf Simion, Stephanos and Aleksander Torenescu who descend the Ivanovitch leading down Tatjana and many young traladaran women and men freed from the slavers.
Philip and Lucia Vorloi run to Fortunato to hug him, another scene that excite a roar of approval from the crowd.
Taradain and Tiberius are surrounded by people praising, kissing and thanking them.

Act 3 - New Roads
Scene IV - Mirror Bay Inn, Evening of the 15th day (Thaumont, 15th 990 AC)

In the late evening eventually you are all reunited at the Mirror Bay Inn.
Bofar, Lucius and Dim are ready to leave Specularum with the gnomish caravan the day after. That was a consequence of an altercation between Bofar and Stephanos Torenescu.
Mikel explains to Fortunato, Trark and Taradain how this happened.
"I am sorry to see you go - Fortunato says to Bofar and the others - but obviously you are free to do as you prefer. I hope you will send news however, and I also hope you will keep fighting this organization of slavers and any other enemy of Karameikos wherever you go, as I strongly believe that the Grand Duchy is the best hope for the future of all the inhabitants of this country, humans and not. Have a safe trip, and good luck!"
"I hope we will have a chance to see each other again - Trark says - be careful in the wilds. If you listen to the advices of the head guard, Karto, I think you will be safe. He is a rough and smart fellow, he can teach you much. Just remember that you have a lot to learn". Trark smiles and hugs briefly each of you.

(Once Bofar, Dim and Lucius have said goodbye to the others I will continue their story in Road to Highforge thread).

I'm sorry to leave but I can only blame myself for this. But I hope to see you again in not so distant future. Anyway, I am sure that someone of us will keep you informed if we find out anything important. Taradain, you welcome to join us. But be warned that you will propably find Highforge very boring place, at least if what I have heard of it are true...

Dim discreetely informs the others about the location of Octavius' house.
"My friends, we need to decide if we will take the chance to do a little visit to him tonight, before our departure tomorrow in the morning, to ask him if he knows something about the recent events. Or we can decide that is not the right time for this. I would like to go; tonight, it could be our unique possibility for a long time ahead. But I will accept the majority's will", says with a low tone of voice to his friends reunited in the Inn.

Trark replies to Taradain.
"Are you sure you want to leave the city? - the orc asks - you have become quite famous and certainly the Church of Saint Lucor would protect and aid you.. I'm also sad to see you go, but I will respect your decision".
"Indeed you are quite a symbol now for the Karameikans in the city - Fortunato says - but I understand this may well be a bit too much for a girl as young as you are. Yet my family would do its best to protect you too."
"If you still want to go, I promise I will go after the people suspected of killing your parents, and will let you know if we will be able to indict them", Mikel adds.

Once we're alone with Trark, Lucius says: "They might well protect us, but it would not come for free -- the church has its own goals, and we'd be just another pawn in a power play larger than us. I'd rather make a fresh start somewhere where I'm not famous..."

I would love to stay but you see i have this problem one of my friends is being exiled from the city on the most spurious of grounds I turn back to the note i am penning i finish it with a flourish "Mikel could you see this is delivered to Lord Tornescu. I have learned a valuable lesson Mikel i won't have you or anyone else risking themselve the people who had my parents killed can wait ... watch them if you want maybe they will slip and bring them justice

To Bofar You are not actually contemplateting staying in highforge are you? there is a whole world for us to see, We have a names to make and marks to leave on the world
To Mitri My friend I know you want to stay and take care of your cousin however having met her i believe she wants you to go and see the world I have heard tell that sometimes powereful adventurers are granted land what better way to take care of her than to have a home of your own ?
to Tiberius I hope you will come with us there is a lot to see and do?

to dim and the others WHo knows maybe one day the deeds we do will be sung in song assuming we do deeds that is

Turning to Fortunato My Lord Vorloi you have a daughter and family business to attend to and you are target for the iron ring already i would not add to the burden.

Finally i turn to trark "If you will do me the honor ... turn and offer him the lower half of my cloak to shear. This ensures that i will return it may be a year or five but i will return

Bofar shakes his head to Dim, I won't prevent you going but I'm staying out of it. I need to avoid any unnecessary troubles while still staying in Specularum.

To Taradain, I am actually planning to stay in Highforge, at least for awhile. You know, if we want to act against this Iron Ring and its slavers, we need a base of operation. I would feel much more secure surrounded by my dwarven brethren and gnomish cousins than any humans at the moment. No offense meant to anyone sitting present around the table.

To Taradain My place is here in the city for now. I'm done running. I would like you to stay here and help us make this a better place.

To Bofar, Dim, and Lucius I'm sad to see you leave. I wish you the best in your travels and you will always have a place in my soul no matter where you go.

Act 3 - New Roads
Scene IV - Mirror Bay Inn, Evening of the 15th day (Thaumont, 15th 990 AC)

Trark nods to Lucius and shears Taradain's cloak.
"You have your reasons and I accept them - the orc says - just beware when in the wilds, and maybe I may come to pay you a visit before you return. Please do not believe the tall tales about adventurers entering humanoid lairs, dispatching them and taking their treasures. Humanoids are not as stupid as humans like to believe. They have traps in their lairs, and a lair inhabited by hundreds of them is much more common than one inhabited by a dozen. Also I hope you are not the kind of humans who invade the houses of other intelligent creatures and kill their youngs. You will soon realize that out there a grudgingly cohesistence is much more common than open warfare, or this land would not have been the home of so many races for so many centuries. Then there is the matter of predators. I do not mean mountain lions, giant ferrets and weasels, wolves and bears, which are normally harmless unless you attack them, but giant spiders and giant insects, feywings, griffons, manticores, hydras, seergars and wyverns, which can be aggressive if they think you are invading their territories. If you go underground beware of oozes and fungus, carrion crawlers, rust monsters, and mostly the ropers and the nightgleets. If you enter ancient tombs, and you should not, beware of gargoyles and living statues. Do not enter the territories of werecreatures, undead, fairy folks and giants unless you are invited to, but why should you? And there are also some dangerous plants out there". Trark smiles.
Fortunato wishes you good luck and gives each of you a friendly pat on the shoulder, saying to write to him should you need assistance or help. He says there are Vorloi traders in every city of Karameikos, and indicates to you a trader in Highforge, a wool merchant named Leandrus, that represents his family there.
Mikel takes Taradain's letter and promises to deliver it, but warns her that it would probably not make much difference, Bofar will still have to stay out of the city for at least a few years.
About Octavius, he speaks to Tiberius and Dim.
"We have to plan carefully what we want to do - he says - this wizard could provide vital informations but we do not know if he has some loyalty to the slavers. If he has, he could tell Zenopus we are searching for him or lead us to a trap. If he hasn't, paying him could be enough. If he is very afraid of them, he may speak only under duress.. We should discuss this with Philip, and ask for the assistance of the Thorns...

To Fortunato: "Thanks, sir. I'm sorry I have to leave your service so soon, but at this time I'd be more of a liability than an asset. I'll make sure to contact your agent in Highforge."

To Trark (with a grin): "Actually, the plan was more sticking to caravan jobs and the like."

To Tiberius: "Thanks. Be well."

To Dim: (loud) "I'll see you tomorrow, then!" (in a whisper) "I'll watch your back tonight".

Later, Lucius will follow Dim and the others at a distance (wearing no armor for better stealth, but a dark cloak with a hood), and keep an eye on Octavius' house (if possible for a dark entrance hall or other such hiding spot) while the are there.

Act 3 - New Roads
Scene IV - House of Octavius, Night of the 15th day (Thaumont, 15th 990 AC)

(Ok Tiberius and Dim for sure go to question Octavius, and Lucius follows them at a distance. Bofar doesn't go, while Taradain and Mitri can be present if they so desire).

Fortunato and Mikel arrange an urgent meeting with Philip Vorloi to discuss the matter of Octavius. Philip decides to send The Thorns with you to question the wizard immediately, as the informations he may have could well be vital.
The Thorns do not spend too much time in opening Octavius' door and deactivate the traps he placed. The wizard wakes up to some alarm and welcomes you with a pointed wand, but surrenders immediately as soon as he realizes he is seriously outnumbered.
Mikel asks him what he knows about Zenopus and what he has done for him.
As soon as he hears the name, Octavius is clearly terrified.
"I cannot tell you anything about him - he whines - he would realize I've spoken and he will do terrible things to me!"

Outside the house, Lucius keeps an eye on the area, but all seem calm in the streets.

"Do you really think that Zenobius, or one of his own informant, doesn't will know very soon that, tonight, a group of Guards entered in your house, and questioned you for hours...? Also if you remain totally silent with us, Zenobius will play it safe, and he will assume that you have talked to us... with the obvious consequences, and none to support you....", says Dim, assertively (and exchanging a blink of an eye with Mikel). "Octavius, in every case you are in serious trouble: now, you can choose if to be in trouble with us AND the Guard AND Zenobius... or only with Zenobius, having us and the Guard as allies...".
