Act 3 - New Roads
Scene V - Back at the Mirror Bay Inn, Night of the 15th day (Thaumont, 15th 990 AC)

"Indeed if your informations are useful we can pay you well - Fortunato adds to what Dim said - enough to leave the city for better places"
Even if still clearly nervous, Octavius tells what he knows. He met Zenopus only once, and he was an old but not frail wizard with a pointed short white beard and a small cap. He knows he should have a tower somewhere near the Bligh Swamp, in the Black Eagle Barony. He instructed Octavius to provide potions and magical items upon request, and he has been always paid well for his services. After that initial contact, he only met the half-orc Thowrogh several times. The half-orc has an hideout somewhere in the Undercity, Octavius believes is near to the Rattlebone Inn and tavern, in Bricktop. He swears he doesn't know anything else.
"Now you will come with us - Mikel says - to a Vorloi house. If your information leads us somewhere, you will be paid. If not, you will suffer dire consequences"

Lucius doesn't meet anyone near Octavius' house. In a short time, The Thorns take the wizard in their custody and you can return to the Mirror Bay Inn, almost deserted now in the night, where anyone who did not go can be informed of what happened.
"We really need some rest now - Mikel says - but we will have to act on Octavius' information as soon as possible, probably tomorrow. This however doesn't concern those of you who are going to Highforge. Thanks for your help, and let us know about your future adventures!"

(This is the moment to say goodbye. Now for everyone except Tiberius, the game will continue in the Road to Highforge thread, but feel free to ask anything you may want to ask Octavius or other NPCs and add anything you may wish to say to the other PCs).

Act 3 - New Roads
Scene VI - Specularum, 16th day (Thaumont, 16th 990 AC)

The day after Tiberius and Mikel may meet in the Mirror Bay Inn to discuss your next moves. Mitri too should be present and decide how much he wants to be involved in the coming fight against the slavers.
The basic plan is to search for the hideout of the half orc by this evening. Mikel also says that Philip Vorloi in the meantime will speak with the Ducal authorities to see if they are willing to investigate Tiberius' home village of Fluvius.
If you are able to capture and question the half orc, you may be able to start unraveling the slavers' net in the city.

(We will not play the search for the hideout as a classic dungeon, as we are now starting a more "strategic" part of the game as explained in the OOC thread. So you should now just think of anything that could aid you in such a mission: informations, resources, people, items, ideas or else. Any good idea from you will increase the possibility of success of your mission. Please ask for more explanations if you have any doubt!)

Act 3 - New Roads
Scene VI - Specularum, Evening of the 16th day (Thaumont, 16th 990 AC)

When evening comes, Mikel and The Thorns are almost ready to go. Philip Vorloi has also provided ten more men.
"First about Fluvius - Mikel says - I spoke with Philip and he has some news.. Lord Korrigan will send soldiers to investigate the village but he doubts they will find any definitive proof of their involvement with the slavers, and he doesn't want to arrest without grounds veteran thyatians who served under the Duke. Bottom line, probably they will do nothing. Yet your father and the other men of the village now know that we know, so they will be extra careful. They may lose entirely the cash the slavers were giving them, as the slavers will consider the place burned.. Philip means to do exactly so.. let everyone know we are watching Fluvius and bribing people of the village to have information. This tactic could work. He may ask you to reason with your father, eventually. If Philip is willing to pay, your father could be much more reasonable. That's all about it at the moment, now let's speak of tonight. This is a very dangerous task we have and probably it's better if you do not come with us. Entering the lair of someone, or something, is always tricky as there could be traps or worse. If you really want to partecipate, I would assign you the job to survey an exit from the sewers nearby, do you agree?"

Tiberius agrees to survey an exit from the sewers and will take careful note of who is coming and going and which direction they head in.

He understands that he may be in danger in his home village but offers to set up a hidden camp near there and keep a lookout for anyone he knows he thinks he can sway or learn anything about the slavers from, if he feels he's not going to put his life in danger.

Act 3 - New Roads
Scene VI - Specularum, Night of the 16th day and 17th day (Thaumont, 16th and 17th 990 AC)

Tiberius is posted with another man to look at the exit, but no one comes out of it during the mission. Mikel and The Thorns came up later with three prisoners. Two of them are the red haired man and the brown haired man who have been already captured twice, but were released by the authorities the first time and were freed from the Hightower the second time. The third man is a warrior-looking guy Tiberius has never seen before, but Mikel confirms he was also captured a few days ago with a supposed cleric, and then freed from the Hightower.
"We found a hideout down there, but unfortunately the half-orc and the supposed cleric were already gone, and these three were covering their escape - Mikel explains - we will not do the same mistake again, we will put these three in a heavily guarded Vorloi dungeon and interrogate them until they say something useful!"
That said, Mikel advises Tiberius to catch some sleep. Now that he has the house Fortunato gave to the group all by himself, Tiberius can also let Mitri and Sorcha stay, if they want, even if they are not officially employed by the Vorloi.

About Fluvius, Mikel says the Vorloi are already checking on the village, but in the next days Philip and Fortunato will decide what to do exactly, and Mikel will tell Tiberius.

The next day at the Mirror Bay Inn Mikel hasn't relevant news yet, but in the meantime he offers to help Tiberius in his training. The Thorns can help too.
"It's important you get better because you may need your fighting abilities sooner than later", Mikel says. Indeed is immediately clear that Tiberius is now famous, as the young thyatian who fought against the slavers.
People come to the inn to meet, greet and thanks him.
A young and pretty female bard sings in the early afternoon about a young thyatian who decided to fight his own father to go against the slavers of the Iron Ring. It takes some minutes for Tiberius to realize that the ballad is about him!
"You are becoming famous young Tiberius - Mikel says - we cannot avoid that, your story is just too good. You are a hero now, and the slavers will want you dead. We are already watching you day and night, but you have to get better in defending yourself as fast as you can. Nasty people want you dead. I'm sorry I have to scare you, but much gold has been offered already for proof of your death".

(After these initial days we will move to playing roughly two months of your characters' lives in each week of real time, so we will approximately play in 3 months the two years of training that will shape the future of your characters..)

Tiberius does what he can to make the house provided by Fortunato livable. He makes sure that the entrance to the underground is secured from the house side, and then puts a big piece of furniture or the like in front of it (one that he can barely move by himself if available). He welcomes Mitri and Sorcha if they choose to stay with him.

About Fluvius, he awaits word from Mikel about what if anything is needed from him.

Tiberius gladly accepts the offer for his training, from Mikel and the Thorns. He wants to learn how to defend himself from attackers and subdue them nonlethally if possible, but he is willing to use lethal force if necessary. He also takes up his education in Traladaran from Trark is that is still possible (if not he finds someone else to help him learn). He spends some time at the Church of Karameikos for guidance (I'll go back and look at a summary of Immortals from an earlier post and maybe choose a few he wants to learn more about or follow).

His unexpected fame he takes in stride, trying not to let it go to his head, and as gracefully as possible accept the accolades of others. This also pushes him to live up to the stories about him in his actions, as he feels he does not truly deserve his fame but also does not want to belittle any hope he might have given others.

He heads Mikel's advice and is careful for his safety as possible, staying in groups of others he knows when possible, securing his quarters and inviting others he trusts to stay with him, and trying not to keep and set schedule or travel patterns when possible (even though he's probably going to frequent the same places - Mirror Bay Inn, his house, the Church, and wherever he is going to receive his training). He travels armed at all times, unless it is inappropriate for the situation.

Act 3 - New Roads
Scene VII - Specularum, 18th day (Thaumont, 18th 990 AC)

The following day, Mikel has some preliminary news from the interrogation of the captured slavers. The Thorns have learned the slavers have an extensive net of hideouts in the Undercity, and are trying to forging alliances with some of the creatures which inhabit it. Once they learn more, Fortunato and Philip will decide what to do with this information.

Fortunato also brings you a white dog.
"He is Alke, his name means Valor in ancient thyatian - Fortunato says - he is a Hattian sheepdog (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maremma_Sheepdog). They may look fluffy and like to play, but believe me, they are the best guard dogs of the world. Alke is also special, you will learn how special he is in due time. For now, just know him and remember: if he growls and tries to lead you away, believe him and run. I bet you will be friends. I own his mother and brother".

(We will speak about Immortals tomorrow :)

(You can walk around Specularum with a bounded weapon and armor)

(In the next two years of game time, you may be able to learn as much as 3 powers or feats, 3 combat maneverus, the use of 3 additional different weapons, 1 additional skill and 1 more language. How much you will learn depend mostly on how much time you will dedicate to training, but also on some dice rolling. You can learn from Mikel, from the warriors among the Thorns or from Trark. Trark is a monk (but they are called mystics in Mystara) but I do not consider the class a restriction, but rather a path. That means you can stick to it and keeps on learning warrior abilities or diversificate, and learn even some wizard or clerical spells, if you find a suitable teacher. That is obviously valid for everyone, so Mitri can stick to the "Thief path" or learn also abilities of other classes).

Tiberius welcomes Alke and thanks Mikel. He will heed Alke's warnings as if his life depends on it.

He would like to train with Mikel and the Thorns, he is not very interested in the life of a mystic. He would like to continue his education in Traladaran, preferably from Trark.

Act 3 - New Roads
Scene VIII - Specularum, 18th day (Thaumont, 18th 990 AC)

On the same days when at the Mirror Bay Inn you also receive the visit of a very young cleric (he will be 18 or 17 years old) who introduces himself as Fabio and says he comes from the Church of Saint Lucor.
"My superiors would be very interested in speaking with you - he says - I have here a letter with a formal invite. As you may know, the Church is connected to the Church of Traladara, but due to the fact that Saint Lucor was a Thyatian, we promote understanding and cooperation between Traladarans and Thyatians, and we believe the future is indeed Karameikan. You should have heard about the vigil we did in front of the Ducal Palace four days ago. (see viewtopic.php?f=65&t=14805&start=225#p174242) Do not think we have demands for you, we only wish to offer you our help. Please come.
The young cleric leaves you a letter inviting you to visit the temple, and leaves.

(Trark will keep on teaching you traladaran. If you want he can also teach you some basic of unarmed combat, even if you will not become a mystic).

To Fabio I will gladly meet your superiors and hear what they have to say. I'm interested in what is being done in the name of Saint Lucor.

Act 3 - New Roads
Scene VIII - Specularum, 19th day (Thaumont, 19th 990 AC)

You can begin your lessons in Traladaran and unharmed combat from Trark right now, and Mikel too will start training you in armed combat. (In the following days you will be able to start choosing your next powers/abilities).

You go visit St Lucor (hereby the original description by Agathokles on Pandius: http://www.pandius.com/fc_s_luc.html

The church is located along the Duke's Road, in the North End near the border with the Merchant District. It is built so that its front can be seen both by those coming from the city gates and by those coming from the Grand Market.
This Traladaran church is typical of its kind, a squat building with an unassuming exterior of dark, reddish brown bricks supported by thick setback buttresses.
The interior is decorated with frescoes in the Traladaran style -- where figures are painted in sizes relative to their importance in the scene as well as in rather rigid postures, at least compared to the more naturalistic modern Thyatian style. The frescoes represent scenes from the life of St. Lucor, the leader of the Thyatian missionary clerics who created the first written version of the Song of Halav back in the V Century AC. The main scenes represent: St. Lucor's arrival at the harbor of Marilenev in AC 400; his meeting with Ban Ivan Marilenev (a grandson of King Bogdan Ivanovic and the founder of the Marilenev dynasty) in that same day; the edification of the Thyatian Shrine in AC 402; the travels of St. Lucor to Halavos and Lugsid (AC 405-412); St. Lucor presenting the scrolls penned with the first written edition of the Song of Halav to Ban Ivan in AC 414; the crowning of Ivan Marilenev as Duke of Marilenev in AC 417; and the return of St. Lucor to Thyatis to spread the knowledge of Halav in AC 421.
In the far end of the church, a human sized statues of St. Lucor -- depicted with tonsured, curly hair and a short beard, wearing a Thyatian style toga -- stands in front of the much larger statues of the Traladaran Three (Halav, Petra and Zirchev).

The church was built in the VI Century, at the height of the Duchy of Marilenev, to celebrate the triumphs in the Fourth Traladaran War against the Darokin-backed northern Traladaran clans, so the links to the Marilenev family are very strong -- several Dukes were buried in this church in the following years.
The Church of St. Lucor is also the starting point of the procession held during the Festival of Lucor, when the saint's statue is floated in the bay. The procession itself is a complex affair, with the Torenescu and Radu clans vying for support from the clergy by sponsoring the festival and, in return, having one of their women chosen to lead the procession.

At the tour of the Church by Fabio, several clerics come to greet you beside Fabio whom you know already. They gives their names as Georgios, Tullius and Mira. "We are almost the whole Church - Mira says - plus a few accolytes. We always have been a small church, mostly devoted to this chapel and the Festival, but things have changed after the Marilenev rebellion. Lady Magda doesn't support us much, as we have become a rallying point for the new Karameikan, children of mixed heritage. The Church of Traladara is more or less on our side, as it seems that Halav looks favorably on Duke Stefan, but some traditionalistic elements of the Church still would like a Free Traladara. Some in the Church of Thyatis are hostile to us, while others can be considered allies, particularly the clerics of Tarastia and Ilsundal. Anyway we want to take a strong stance against slavery and so we are offering you our help. We are willing to aid and we ask you to involve us in any fight against the slavers. We understand this will be dangerous, but we have spoken to our patron, and we have to follow this course. If you prefer to attend the Church of Karameikos however we can recommend some clerics we consider friends. Magdel is a very young cleric of Tarastia in the Church of Karameikos, our way to communicate with Patriarch Olliver Jowett if we need to. In the Church of Thyatis, the one still connected to the main Church of the Empire, there is Father Domitius. He is too a priest of Tarastia, and could be an ally. In the Church of Traladara, I would recommend Father Sergyev. He is a priest of Halav, but is known for having a good opinion of Duke Stefan. If you accept our help, we can search for allies among all the churches and the faiths. We may have a hard time in persuading the clerics of Vanya in the Church of Karameikos, who normally do not consider slavery a problem. But they could eventually be on our side if we can prove that the slavers are connected to Entropic faiths, and we have already strong hints of that..."

Fabio, I gladly accept your church's help against the slavers, the more for the cause the better, but for the time my loyalties lie elsewhere and I will not go against my patrons wishes. I will check with him and if he is agreeable I will let you know. I will attend services here and if what you tell me about your faith is true I may become a member.

Tiberius discusses Fabio's offer with Fortunato when he has a chance to make sure that an alliance will not upset his patron.

Act 3 - New Roads
Scene IX - Specularum, 19th and 20th day (Thaumont, 19th and 20th 990 AC)

You have a chance to speak with Fortunato the same evening after meeting the clerics.
"It's never a bad idea to have as many allies as possible - Fortunato says - and we certainly can reach out to the Church of Saint Lucor and the others too, in particular Patriarch Jowett, Father Dominicus and Father Sergyev. What I have heard about them certainly supports the idea they could be reliable allies against the slavers, as I think they are steadfast supporters of the Duke. But you have done well in referring to me. You are famous now and people may try to use your fame for their purposes. But I believe these clerics are sincere. I will go to speak to them personally. It's also true it would be useful to have the support of the Church of Vanya, as she has a great support among Thyatians. Vanya doesn't oppose slavery, but she may oppose the Iron Ring if we can prove they follow entropic immortals. Something we should try to accomplish..".

(Karameikos, as most of Mystara, has not strict work days as in the modern world, people just work when they have work to do, and normally less than 40 hours a week, unless there is something urgent to do, so usually Soladain is not strictly a day off. Yet there are many holidays, religious or public festivals, and Soladain is indeed usually a day of lighter or no work. Churches however have all different service days. The Church of Saint Lucor has meetings each Tserdain evening, which means every 3rd, 10th, 17th and 24th day of each month. Next meeting will then be Thaumont 24th, if you wish to go. The clerics clearly said they will be happy to have you. Fortunato says you should choose the church you prefer).

The following day, Thaumont 20th, has no other news beside some training with Trark and Mikel. Tomorrow Mikel will resume his normal duties as Sergeant.

Just before the evening, the young and pretty female bard you already saw in the Mirror Bay Inn three days ago come to speak to you. She is finely dressed in the thyatian fashion, with long light brown hair and green eyes.
"Hello, my name is Valeria - she says - and I have to thank you, boy, because I'm making a lot of money with the ballad about your adventure against the slavers. I'm now thinking about adding some lines to it. Probably you went after the slavers because you are in love with this Taradain girl, and you saved her, yet she went away with another one who didn't even risk his life to save her. Unfair, desperate, it will be a huge success. To think you went against your family to save her. Yes, it will work perfectly. People do love scorned lovers. Yes, I know it's not the truth, but the truth is not really important here, it's how you tell it. Before you protest, think a moment how much convenient my ballad has already been for you and will soon be even more. Your enemies will fear you and you will gain more allies, and more support. Also, girls will fall all over you. I can be your good luck boy. You are a bit young for me but maybe eventually you could fall in love with the beautiful bard who is singing your story. That also would work perfectly with the audience. Or a poor girl, maybe you should pick a very poor girl. Poor but very beautiful, that will teach something to your ungrateful girlfriend".
Valeria smiles widely, clearly extremely amused by her ideas...

To Fotunato Thank your for you guidance and encouragement. I will be attending the services at St. Lucor for the foreseeable future as long as I don't perceive that they are using me just for my recent fame. I will aid in chasing any leads of the Iron Ring being involved with the Entropic Immortals.

To Valeria I'm happy that you have been able to make money off of my adventure, as long as your ballads are not filled with lies. Lies like me being the one to save Taradain. She freed herself and many others from the bowels of the slaver's ship, burst onto the deck, and risked her life to save those that had come to rescue her. She chose to leave with her friends because of her ill treatment here in the city. Taradain is the one that should have ballads written about her, not me. I care nothing for fame, shallow allies or woman, nor more enemies who are looking to make a name for themselves by putting down a 'hero' who stood against the slavers. Sing what you feel you must, but to all that come to me I will tell them the truth of the matter. Having said his mind to Valeria, Tiberius braces himself for the repercussions of a bard scorned.

Act 3 - New Roads
Scene IX - Specularum, 20th and 21th day (Thaumont, 20th and 21th, 990 AC)

Fortunato agrees and tells you he will let you know when he has any news.

Valeria just laughs. "Well I cannot write a ballad about Taradain - she replies - the girl left the city and if the people cannot see her often, they will soon lose interest in her adventures. If she keeps doing heroics, she may find a bard wherever she is. The scorned lover thing was very good, I hate to let it go, but I'm not as venal as I may seem and while I like to stretch the truth a bit, I'll not sing outright lies. I'd then go with you helping a friend but still you are the one who stayed here while the other left, so you still are the hero. Just tell me what you do. And if you do not tell me, I will discover it anyway. And there is always the possibility of the love story with the beautiful bard". Valeria flashes you another smile and leaves.

That very evening she sings again at the Mirror Bay Inn and her ballad has indeed more lines, giving some credit to Taradain, Trark's and the others actions against the slavers, but still making you the hero of the story, who decided to stay to fight the slavers despite his young age and inexperience, while others thought better to leave the city..
After that, many patrons come to greet you and offer you drinks, but Trark advises to refuse them, given your age.

Next day, Thaumont 21th, is a quiet day of training and learning with Trark and some of the Thorns who come by.
Marcellus and Marcus, the two warriors, have some advice to give.
In the evening, Mikel and Fortunato come at the Mirror Bay Inn to tell you some news.
"Lord Alexius Korrigan wants to speak with you directly tomorrow, to ask you about the slavers and your village - Fortunato says - it's a great honour because he is first cousin and main advisor of the Grand Duke. But do not worry, I, Philip and Mikel will be present too!"

Tiberius approaches Valeria after her performance Thanks for honoring my wishes, I know that a bard can have power to not only elevate ones reputation, but also ruin it if they so desire. I will gladly keep you informed of my 'adventures' as I am able. Thank you my lady.

Tiberius enjoys his evening and the attention he is given, and is not even the least bit upset when Trark denies him his well earned drinks. He is a little intimidated that he is to see Lord Korrigan tomorrow, and makes sure to have his finest outfit on and present himself the best he can to such a powerful man, even if it means he must spend some of his hard earned coin to purchase the appropriate outfit if he has time.

Act 3 - New Roads
Scene X - Specularum, 22nd day (Thaumont, 22nd, 990 AC)

Fortunato can outfit you appropriately. He gives you typical thyatian formal dress with dark boots, grey trousers with black belt, longsleeved white tunic with full sleeves with two rows of buttons. It's all wool, but of a quality you have never experienced before in your life. You are advised not to carry weapons.
In the afternoon, Fortunato and Philip Vorloi arrive at the inn with some other men, Mikel and Lieutenant Marcus of the Hightower. They escort you to the Duke's Stronghold in the Hill.
The great Castle certainly impress you, as its rich interior decorations, the guards uniforms, the marble statues, the glass windows, the carpets and the tapestries.
Eventually you reach a study with a big wooden table full of maps, where sits a tall, great man with brown hair and beard, and cheerful brown eyes. "Lord Alexius Korrigan, Seneschal of the Ducal Estate and General of the 2nd Division", Philip Vorloi says to introduce him, smiling broadly.
Korrigan looks at him with familiarity and mocking disapproval.
"I am here just to have the worst problems thrown at me - Korrigan says with another smile - and these slavers are just that kind of problem. I have several questions for you, young Tiberius, about your home village mostly, but before that we must do something else. Adriana and Justin have heard of your adventures and want to hear of them from your own voice. Would you indulge the two youngsters and spend some time with them?"
"They are the Duke's daughter and son!" Fortunato whispers to you.

Tiberius spends some time with the Duke's children and tells them of his tale, filling in where they want more "It all started at the St Lucor festival where some there tried to disrupt the festivities. A brave young girl by the name of Taradain stepped in to stop it from escalating and was joined by some others that were watching the procession, including myself. We were singled out by Fortunato and aided him in finding and freeing his daughter from the tunnels beneath the city. There we discovered that slavers were at work. We investigated them but came up with little. Racial tensions were rising in the city and we discovered Tatjana and the Veiled Society stirring up some of the tensions. We thwarted some city guards from attacking defenseless people and found ourselves arrested for our actions. In retrospect we are lucky we were not harmed instead. The Veiled Society broke into the prison and freed us, but none but Taradain choose to go with her. The rest of us had to break free of the prison and found refuge with Fortunato. Clues lead to the Black Octopus but our investigations of the ship turned up nothing. Fortunato with the aid of the Tornescu's tried to flush out a traitor among our ranks in the tunnels but they eluded us, but there I found a clue leading to my home village of Fluvius. I joined Fortunato and a band of adventurers and we went to investigate in Fluvius, and there I learned that my own family and most likely most if not all the villagers were in cahoots with the slavers. We battled my father and brother and were able to capture them but the Black Octopus had evaded us yet again. Once again, Fortunato joined forces with the Tornescu and the Black Octopus was tracked down and boarded, we met some slaves on the deck as Larius and I were searching for them. The leader of the slavers took magical control of some of our leaders, but Taradain was able to disrupt his control and we made it safely back to our ships with the Black Octopus escaping us.

The rest of the group I met at the St. Lucor festival have since left the city for Highforge for their own reasons, and I have stayed in the city and hope to be able to help put an end to the slavers.

Act 3 - New Roads
Scene X - Specularum, 22nd day (Thaumont, 22nd, 990 AC)

Adriana is ten years old, of average height for her age, slender, with coppery red hair, brown eyes, fair complexion with a great number of freckles. "Come on, Turtle", she says smiling to her brother Justin when they enter the room. Justin has dark brown hair, is pale and thin, he seems to be recovering from an illness. He looks timidly at you, while Adriana has a lot of questions and entusiasm. Both listen to you account with great interest.
Near the end of it, a beautiful woman finely dressed enters the room too. Alexius, Fortunato and Philip bow to her. She has dark brown hair and icy blue eyes, is slender and very beautiful, probably around 30 years old. "Duchess Olivia" - Philip Vorloi says, kissing her hand.
"I am not sure a tale about criminals is good for the children", she says looking at Korrigan.
"Milady, you know how Adrian can be insistent" - Lord Korrigan smiles.
"Indeed, but now she should leave with her brother, Justin has to take his medicine", the Duchess says.
Adriana seems about to protest, but a look from her mother persuade her she should leave, and the two children exit the room.
"So you are the famous young Tiberius - Olivia then says to you - I commend your loyalty to Karameikos. I wish you the best, maybe we will have other occasions to meet".
The Duchess then leaves and you remain with Korrigan and the Vorloi.
Korrigan then speaks extensively to you about your village. He also discovered they have some dealings with goblins (you already knew that, hence you learnt the language) but he believes your father and the villagers can be persuaded to join the government's side, now that they have been discovered. It seems in fact they now fear the Iron Ring could decide to wipe them out, in the worst hypothesis, or stop paying them, in the best one.
Korrigan says you will probaby have to return to Fluvius soon...

(Note that Fortunato too was captured by the slavers and you went with Mikel to free him, Taradain and the others who were captured after him. Mikel and Philip Vorloi were the ones who obtained the help of the Torenescu to rescue the captives of the Black Octopus. Probably just a typo, but better to add a precisation for the record or we could have wrong references in the future :)

Tiberius bows to the queen and humbly accepts her accolades.

Tiberius is wary of his villagers joining the government's side, he feels it's buying allies or just mercenaries and they can easily be turned, but does not mention this to Korrigan. He does bring up his concerns to Mikel and Fortunato later, before he returns to his village to get their view on the subject.

To Korrigan Lord, I will do what is required of me, but I do not think I will receive a warm welcome back at Fluvius.

(Reply to note - was trying to do the story off memory, knew I was missing quite a few details. Didn't bring up Bofar's banishment on purpose, but forgot that Fortunato was also taken. Also remembered Mikel playing a large part but couldn't remember the details for the life of me.)

Act 3 - New Roads
Scene X - Specularum, 23rd day (Thaumont, 23rd, 990 AC)

Korrigan thanks you, he says to not worry, you will be well backed up if you will have to return at Fluvius.

The day after, Thaumont 23rd, you have no other committments but follow your language lessons with Trark and some martial training. At dinner, Fortunato and Mikel join you to discuss news and plans.
"The three slavers we have captured will be put on trial, and Korrigan thinks they will receive an harsh sentence, maybe death - Fortunato says - the Duke is finally annoyed by the slavers and the support they are enjoying from ethnic Thyatians. He is also growing wary of the actions of his cousin, Von Hendriks, and worried about the voices on him financing the slavers and humanoid raiders. So it seems things could start going our way. We will wait for the trial and the sentence, it will be done in a week or so. We have a triple strategy for the next months, and you can partecipate in any part you wish to. First, we are going to explore and map all the subterranean levels of Specularum we can find. Korrigan is very much on board about this, as it could also lead to discover smuggling and common criminals. Second, we will bring Fluvius to our side, with bribes, and try to do the same in all the bases the slavers may have in Karameikos. If we take their havens from them, they will no longer have any safe docking place for their ships. Third, we will search for allies who can help us, and are willing to help us, to root them out. In the next months you will have to train, but you will also get some missions, which will be part of this strategy. You should create a small group of people to aid you. Trark will be part of it, for sure, and Mikel will aid when he can. I can also provide men, if needed, but maybe you could also ask Mitri and to some of the people who were in the Black Octopus? I believe the two girls, Carla and Adriana, offered their help, right? there is also a dwarf who will join us. So young Tiberius, are we ready to begin?"

(I assume that Mitri at the moment is busy working at the tanner's shop. RobJN please let me know if you wish to continue playing as is more than a month you do not post. See OOC thread).

Well (as you may have seen in the OOC thread) Mitri prefers to focus on a quiet life at the moment working at the tanner's shop in the Merchant district, so he will not join your missions.
He will let Tiberius know if he hears something useful about the slavers among the Darines or the Traladarans..

I'll check in with Mitri on a regular basis, keeping him up to date on any progress against the slaves and encourage him to find help for the cause among the Darine and Traladarans, let me start visiting weekly.

To Fortunato and Mikel I'm very interested in exploring the subterranean city, even if it means hanging back and doing the mapping. I'm not to interested in going back to Fluvius, but if it is asked of me I will fulfill my duty. As far as allies go I will track down all that I can think of. I'll nurture my relationship with Fabio and the Church of St. Lucor. I will talk to the girls, Carla and Adrianna, that were held captive on the ship and see how they are interested in assisting. Also, I would like to hear their story of how they escaped from the slaver's hold. Who is this dwarf that would join us? I will talk to him and see if how he will help if you approve. Of course I'm forever in debt to the both of you and Trark for all that you have done for me and will continue to assist in any way I can.

Tiberius strives to be as diligent in his studies as a young man can be.

Act 3 - New Roads
Scene XI - Specularum, 24th day (Thaumont, 24th, 990 AC)

Fortunato and Mikel take note of your wishes. The dwarf is named Gurum, and he is an adventurer who is already fighting the Iron Ring since some times. He should arrive in Specularum on Thaumont 25th, and they will introduce him to you.
The next day, Thaumont 24th, you can speak to Carla and Adriana. They are without work at the moment and willing to join you and serve the Vorlois, if they can pay well. They are about 18 years old but past the Shearing. They are just without family, and do not say more about that. Carla sustained herself as a thief, she is not ashamed to admit it. Adriana was part of an adventuring group, The Hawks, who was exploring the Undercity. They were all captured, she believes some of her former companions are dead and anyhow she has been unable to track down any other survivor. At the moment they have a rented room in the South End. They are also eager to hinder the damn slavers in any possible way. They have escaped the slavers thanks to an incident in the hold of the Black Octopus. A sea hydra attacked the ship and damaged some planks and chains, thus allowing them to free themselves, after some work.
Carla also says to ask her anything more you wish to know.

Also the first thing Mitri can say to you is that he has heard Tatjana is organizing the Traladarans in the Nest and the Old Quarter to fight against the slavers. You may need to speak to her. Mikel says the authorities have not arrested Tatjana, despite her part in the rebellion, because she is very popular right now among Traladarans. She may aid against the common enemy, the slavers, but Mikel and Fortunato have no illusions about the Veiled Society: they certainly cannot be trusted to be loyal to Karameikos.

In the evening of Thaumont 24th, you also have the first meeting of the Church of Saint Lucor.

(As said before in the next two years you will train and your characters may be able to learn as much as 1 more language, 3 powers or feats, 3 combat maneveurs, the use of 3 additional different weapons, 1 additional skill. You should now start thinking about that and write it to me in your sheet, telling me in the OOC thread. If you tell me what your character wants to learn, we will work from that).
