Lucius this time hits the enemy squarely, and another one of your men stabs him in the back. The enemy is dispatched and only two knights are left. Bofar and the rest of the men quickly surround and defeat them. You soon realize the knights are all down, their horses running scared around you. Not all the knight are dead, some are stirring a bit on the ground, but all are wounded and not a menace for now.
You have lost three men. One is dead and two others are wounded and cannot fight.
Lucius too is wounded and probably will soon need the assistance of a cleric.
Not too far away in the dark a large group of knights is fighting. You understand it must be the group of Desmond and Arteris, which also includes Dim and Dorn. They seem concentrated around a sort of hole in the ground, from which mounted enemy knights come forth from time to time!
Still, the rearguard was expecting the attack and the line is holding well. The group commanded by Desmond seems also about to overwhelm its opponents, and reach the strange hole in the ground.
Night is falling faster and visibility get worse by the minute.
The first line seems also to hold well for now against the humanoids.
"What we do now? - one of your men asks - frontline or rearguard? And the wounded?"

"We have orders from Flynn to support the rearguard. Also, we can't risk being cut off. Let's circle around our lines and support the rearguard with a flanking attack. The wounded will remain behind our lines."

"Sir, you should remain behind with the wounded", one of the men says to Lucius, while they begin to circle around to follow the order. Indeed his wound is bad and Lucius realizes he is unable to use his shield arm.
You soon spot another critical point of the battle, where a group of knights is gathering with some lizardmen and goblins in a hidden small vale, clearly to attack your main line and the rearguard from behind. They are too many to charge against them, but you could try to join your main line with the rear guard to meet their attack, or gather some more men to attack them before they start...

Lucius sends the wounded men to warn the nearest units. He remains with the other men, leaving Bofar to take point and staying back to keep track of the events

The enemy fortunately realizes late you are gathering men to resist them, so when they are able to mount an attack, you already have in place a solid line connecting the frontline with the rearguard. The goblins, humans, lizardmen and others charge anyway, and your group as usual stays on the back to check the situation.
Soon there is reason to step in as a hole is created in your line, several men falling and a huge lizardman with a wicked and bloodied axe advancing, with many humanoids and lizardmen behind him...

Follow me, lets ride that overgrown lizard down. Bofar rides towards the lizard man ready to hit with his hammer.

The men charge against the lizardmen and the humanoids, mostly goblin and hobgoblins. Even if some of the goblins are mounted on dire wolves and some of the lizardmen on giant lizards, Bofar's men have soon the upper hand in the fight, falling some and pushing the rest back. Bofar however soon finds himself face to face with the huge lizardman, who is on foot, and the creatures hits him hard with the axe. Bofar manages to parry, but falls from his pony. Two of the men try to intercept the lizardman, but he swings his axe and keeps them away, then raises it again to hit the dwarf on the ground..

Bofar tries to dodge [oc: using the feat if possible] the axe by rolling away from it.

If Lucius has a clear path to the lizardman, he charges while the enemy is distracted.

Bofar, finding himself in an ankward position, cannot dodge the hit as he hoped, but fortunately the strike of the lizardman is weaker than he intended, and so hits the armor of the dwarf without causing any damage.
Lucius tries to charge, as for a moment he had a clear path, but soon two lizardman gets in the way, attacking him. He parries with his sword and hits back, wounding one. One of the men, seeing him in a fight against two, attacks a lizardman from behind, but the creature hears him and turns, parrying the blow.
Bofar rises and manages to hit and wound the big lizardman. The other men are now pressed by more lizardmen and goblins arriving in the fight. The lizardman chief hits back, hitting Bofar with his axe. The dwarf feels the blow in the shoulder, realizing he must have been wounded, but still fit to fight back.
Lucius tries to hit the lizardman in front of him again, but the creature parries the blow with his club.

Bofar hasn't much luck with his hit, the lizardman has a crude leather armour on his legs, surprinsingly effective. He tries to hit him back but misses as well. A man nearby, still on horseback, hits the lizardman fully on the shoulder, his sword penetrating some inches in the body of the creature. The lizardmen howls in pain and rage and smash the attacked with his club, destroying his head with an extremely violent blow.
Still Bofar has an opportunity to strike the creature fully in the belly, and this time the dwarf's weapons destroys armour and flesh. The lizardman chief grunts, look at the dwarf for a moment, then he falls down.
Lucius in the meantime attack his opponent and defeats him with a series of precise blow, the lizardman falling down in his blood. The man beside Lucius is likewise effective in despatching the others.
Now you see the enemies are retreating and the gap in your line is closing. A couple of enemies left behind are fallen by your men. Apparently the battle is going well. Both Bofar and Lucius however are wounded, and Lucius realizes his wound is getting worse with extertion...
It seems no more knights are coming to attack the rear guard, and on the frontline Finn's troops are apparently winning. From where you are however you cannot see well the front, nor the rear of the battle.

Lucius, let's take a pause and assess the situation.
Bofar gasps, looks around and then at Lucius.
I think you are in no condition to continue this battle. And I'm not much better.

Lucius nods, barely able to remain on the saddle. He then calls his men to regroup and assesses the condition of his troops.

Bofar limbs to Lucius muttering "I will never again fight while riding if I have any say on the matter. Dwarves are footsoldiers, not bloody cavalry..."

"We should probably return to the Lord Flinn, sir - one of your man says - we can still use some crossbow darts to help even from behind and we will be able to deliver our wounded to clerics, including you".
Two of your men have been killed and 8 have wounds of various gravity, with 2 men in worse conditions, and barely able to stand. Four are still sane and able to fight, but one has lost the horse.

You bring back the men to the main line and the command center. Soon clerics take care of the wounded and a young Thyatian priest also heals, partially, the wounds of Lucius and Bofar.
You realize the enemy is retreating, even if apparently, despite the number of dead and wounded around, has not been utterly defeated and is not routing, but rather is going back with order, firing missile fire against your line to cover their retreat.
Fain Flinn seems a bit puzzled and is talking to several soldiers and hearing reports.
After a while, you manage to reach him and he see you.
"Their trap has failed apparently, we had a few losses but we can count the battle as a win, yet I cannot find Desmond and Arteris, apparently the knights who attacked the rearguard disappeared into a hole in the ground, and some scouts say Desmond and Arteris, and your friends, too. Do you know anything about that?"

No, we were busy covering the flank and did not see much of the rest of the battle. It seemed they had it under control.

Scouts continue searching for Desmond, Arteris and the others, until the goblin Juvlak returns to tell you they have apparently entered a magical mirror, which then disappeared... Fain Flinn is still dismayed by the news when Gila returns with Arelena freed, Kaerin wounded, Taradain, Kesh and Karto.
"What we do now? We have Arelena only to lose Desmond Kelvin, Arteris Penhaligon and many others. How do you find a magical mirror?" Flinn says.

Maybe we can get some information from Arelena ? She might know more than we do. Also, magic users or clerics might be able to divine something more about this mirror.
