North of Eveskyr (Highforge)
Scene XVII - 2 years later (Buhrlen, Felmont, Summer, 20-21th day, 992 AC)

Six orcs are alive and easily captured. Karto arrives with the other two prisoners and now you stop by the farm, where soon a patrol from Dendwal arrives too. The head of the family at the farm, an old man who introduces himself as Marcus Chilikov, thanks you and promises to send you a reward. Shigl the sprite salutes you and leave to return to the druid's groove.
The gnomish patrol leads you and the prisoners back to Dendwal, where you can finally rest.
The day after Gila speaks at lenght with the elders of Dendwal. Juvlak will probably arrive to visit them soon.
Later in the morning, the gnomish wizardess speak also with you.
"The elders are a bit undecisive about the opportunity to move the prisoners to Eveskyr. They would prefer to interrogate them here, maybe waiting for the assistance of Juvlak. They are concerned about informations which may be relevant for their town. Still, we have to inform the King as soon as possible too. They will send a quick message by bird and we could receive a reply already tonight. But in the meantime I can also release you if you want to return to Eveskyr today. Or you could wait with me a bit longer and then we will go together".

North of Eveskyr (Highforge)
Scene XVIII - 2 years later (Buhrlen, Felmont, Summer, 21st day, 992 AC)

You rest in Dendwal for the day and as expected by evening an answer from Eveskyr has arrived. The King asks Gila to lead the two human prisoners to him, while leaving the fate of the orcs to the inhabitants of Dendwal.
Juvlak arrives late in the day too, with some goblins, saluting you and noting that after all the druid's guide led you to safety.
In the evening he interrogates the orcs with the elders, and later he and Gila speaks to you too.
"The orcs are just a band who fled the battle - Juvlak says - they are followers of Leptar from the north and they did not want to leave the area without some bounty. I have asked permission to take them as slaves and I think the elders will give them to me, as they do not really want to keep them. You can take their stuff however, right of capture".
The goblin smiles and shows you the orcs possession, which consist in swords, shields, daggers, armors, bows, some semiprecious stones, some Karameikan coins, waterskins and food. The items seems quite good, showing that the orcs must have a good forge in their nothern territories, but certainly they are not as beautiful and resistant as dwarven weapons. Yet they seems on the same level of human ones.
"We are tasked instead of leading the two human prisoners to King Dorfus in Eveskyr. - Gila says - as it's quite important they arrive, Dendwal will send a patrol of 15 gnomes and dwarves with us. This should make us numerous enough to be safe from any danger. In Motahur, we will have to inform the people of the disappearance of Agnja and Blago. We will sleep there tomorrow. Questions? If not, we will leave tomorrow morning".

Bofar checks the stuff the orcs had. I'm not interested in any of this. For all I care we can leave them here for the local people.

Lucius proposes to keep the semiprecious stone and coins, and leave everything else to Juvlak or the locals -- assuming they are interested.

You can take the coins and sell the stones in the town, obtaining about a gold coin each (added to the sheets).
The day after you leave for Motahur with your escort. The woman prisoner, Bertha, protest again about their capture, while the man is silent as usual. After a while anyway she gives up too.
The first day of travel is quiet and easy, despite a light rain in the afternoon. By evening you are in Motahur. The people there are concerned about Agnja and Blago disappearance with the others. Their parents beg you to try to find them, also promising a reward. Gila anyway replies for everyone saying you will try everything to bring back Bonth and the others.
The next day you travel from Motahur to Eveskyr, and reach the burrows in the afternoon. The area is eerily silent and both Karto and the other dwarves and gnomes of Dendwal are a bit on edge.
"Ancient tombs and great treasures, it is said - Gila explains - but also critters, and worse. Still,
it would be interesting exploring this area well, once we find Bonth and the others.."

North of Eveskyr (Highforge)
Scene XIX - 2 years later (Buhrlen, Felmont, Summer, 23rd day, 992 AC)

By evening you reach Eveskyr and the guards at the gate already know to escort you immediately to the Under Palace, where the King is waiting for you.
"That's quite unusual as it is well known that Dorfus do not like humans much", Karto says, smiling at Lucius and Taradain.
"Obviously he is keen to hear our report", Gila says.
And indeed you are quickly escorted down the Upper Palace to the Under, a great building covered in statues representing famous gnomes of the past. Most of the statues are mechanical or magical constructs which move, performing small actions during the day, and so marking the time.
After a series of halls you reach the throne room, also decorated with beautiful bas relieves illustrating the History of Eveskyr.
King Dorfus is there with some other gnomes and dwarves. Your escort has keep the two human prisoners outside Under Palace, but you all are allowed to enter the throne room. The gnomish king seems a rather unremarkable and simply dressed gnome, almost timid in his manners, but he speaks with you with a steady and clear voice.
"We must praise you for all the services performed for Eveskyr, and we have to commend your intention to depart in search of your commander Bonth. We will contact Kelvin, Penhaligon and Threshold and interrogate the prisoners. We hope to obtain some clue about these enemies, and where to find them. But please Gila, tell me about your mission".
Gila tells all that occured since you left the city, only two weeks before. The King and his advisors, you suppose they are elders of the Guilds and generals of the army, listen with attention. The King and the others have some questions too, mostly about Skarda and the disappearance of Desmond Kelvin II, Bonth and the others.
When Gila has finished, the King looks at you, Kesh and Karto.
"If you have any comment, request or observation, please speak freely", he says.
Kesh says he would like to share the informations with the Churches of Garal and Kagyar, and the King agrees.
Karto says he would like to mobilize the Ranger House, and the Kings invites him to discuss details with the generals, indicating a nearby dwarven male and a gnome female.
If you want to speak, now you can.

(As some of you would have noticed, in Threshold issue #16 there is an article about the Kingdom of Highforge I wrote. You can read it and investigate/ask about anything you read in it, but note that your PCs may not know anything which is written in it, so keep player and character knowledges separate or, if in doubt, ask me for clarifications!)

After Lucius' question, the King speaks with a gnome female beside him and replies soon after.
"We had some disappearance over the years - he says - often they were qualified artisans and inventors. We suspect someone may have taken them to develop weapons or similar things and this Skarda could well be a main suspect. That is also a reason why we would like very much to capture him, as all the Thyatian lords by now. We will let you know when we have a lead, or something.."
After leaving the throne room, you are escorted out of the Palace and go on to the Upper City, where you all leave.
"Time to rest in our houses for a while - Gila says - but obviously I will also ask for support at the Artificiers House, Kesh will do the same at the Temples and you please search for assistance at the Ranger House. We will need all the possible help and probably Eveskyr will also decide a strategy with Penhaligon, Kelvin and Threhold. By the way, we should probably go to speak to Retameron Antonic, him being a sort of Skarda's expert, from what you told me, right?"

Lucius agrees, and proceeds to take a well-deserved rest. Thereafter, he goes to the Ranger House to see if there is personnel willing (and able) to help in the search for Bonth.

North of Eveskyr (Highforge)
Scene XX - 2 years later (Buhrlen, Felmont, Summer, 23rd-28th day, 992 AC)

You have some days of rest while frantic communications go on between the main cities of the north of Karameikos, and scouts are sent everywhere to search for the vanished Skarda. Eventually you hear that both Eveskyr and Karameikos will issue a proclamation to call for adventurers to disrupt the Iron Ring operations and report any clue about the mysterious wizard.
Retameron Antonic in the meantime is coming to you in Eveskyr.
Bofar's family is happy to see him alive but the prevailing outlook in the clan, and for Klisa in particular, is that he should leave this Skarda matter to others and stay at home for a while.
Lucius hangs at the Ranger House, which seems strange without Bonth and the halflings Milo and Talla. Karto however has already found volunteers to find the missing rangers, among which there is also Hammell Radrutar (Ironhand) Torwyn, a famous adventurer and beared of Bedlam's Hammer, and his Chaotic Crusaders of the Cruth Mountains, a group of dwarves, gnomes and hin adventurers.
Taradain's friends, the gnome bard Lasa, the young gnome Gnumsh, Andrei, Serena and the female gnome Shala, plus Tarja and Marcus and other human and gnomish child are all interested in her adventure. Some will gladly join a search for Skarda, but probably their parents will not allow them to do that.

(Let me know if you want to do or buy something in Eveskyr. You receive 5 more gold from Threshold, 10 of reward and 10 more each of reward from Chryspatos, for a total of 25. Added to the sheets. Tomorrow I will probably announce the hunt for Skarda also in the main Mystara forum to see if we find more players and start also another thread here for it).

Bofar explains to everyone in the family that he cannot let the matter rest, that he have an obligation and a duty to find out where his friends are. He is sure they understand that. He pays specific attention to Klisa, even promising to her that after this he will spend more time in Eveskyr.

With some reluctance, the family accepts Bofar's motivations. Klisa is worried, but understands.
In Eveskyr in the meantime many volunteers show up at the Ranger House to offer their assistance in the search for Skarda, and rumours about his appearance and activities of the Iron Ring in Karameikos are much shared these days.
As eventually every rumour will have to be investigates, Karto and Gila think all these people will have to be divided in small groups.
"The problem is, should one rumour be true, what could a small group do against Skarda and his men? Attack to be defeated? Report back to find that Skarda has disappeared in the meantime? We should come up with a better plan..." Gila says.
Kesh would be willing to join your group, but indeed in 4 or 6 there would be little you could do.

"We need to work methodically, using the resources available. Let us divide in medium sized groups, which will be able to investigate rumors, capture individual agents of Skarda, or block larger forces while calling for reinforcements. We need some means for fast communication -- pigeons, maybe, but if Gila has any better option, that would be useful. Also, we should keep some reserve force ready to back up the field teams. Now, how many volunteers do we have, and where are the most consistent rumors located?

"We have more than 100 volunteers in Eveskyr city alone - Karto says - and probably we will get more from Motahur, other town, Chryspatos and Threshold. Pigeons could be indeed the easiest way to coordinate them".
"Still we have to imagine that Skarda could have many men and apparently a gate to some other place or even an outer plane he is able to open at will. Are you familiar with the concept of a demiplane?" Gila asks.
"You mean we should be bait.." Kesh says.
"I am afraid so - the gnome wizardess replies - if we imagine that Skarda has a gate with him no pigeon or not even a teleport spell will be fast enough to reach and catch him. The only way to stop him could be from the inside. And the people getting inside should have some mean of communication and escape with them. Magical means. Another, simpler goal, could be just to capture a single minion. If we could interrogate him or her with magic, he has to know something about the nature of the hiding place. So far, no minion has ever been captured alive. An even simpler goal would be to place a magical location device on one of his minions, but it's not granted it will work if Skarda's lair is on another world. Retameron should be here soon. We should also speak to him about this".

"I will study with the guilds what kind of magic we could find and provide" Gila says.
The last day of Felmont Retameron arrives in Eveskyr with the elf Cardia and the halfling Sam, who you already know, and a young and beautiful wizardess he introduces as Halia. He is very excited about the news on Skarda, believing that the fact that now also Desmond Kelvin II and Arteris Penhaligon have been kidnapped, efforts to locate and defeat him will be multiplied in all Karameikos. A proclamation indeed has been issued by the Duke and the lords and read everywhere already (see here: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=18476)
"As soon as we have a rumor and Gila can provide any magical aid, I'd like to start the search? Do you want to join my group or do you prefer to go alone?" Retameron says.
