Temple of the Gray Mountain
Scene XXV - Hralen, Thaumont, Early Spring, 20th day, 993 AC

(Bofar has retrieved his armor but he cannot wear it until he has done some repair).
Lucius tries to roll out the murky water being and feels he is doing some progress, but he is not out yet. He keeps struggling, knowing he has not much air left in his lung.
Bofar attacks the creature, but it doesn't seem he has done anything with his weapon. The others attack too, some using magic, and this seems to hurt the strange being, but it has not fallen yet. It tries to capture also Kesh and Rahasia, but they manage to evade the attack.

Bofar curses. Fine idea, shooting water with a crossbow bolt.
He drops the crossbow, takes his hammer and readies himself to attack.

Lucius tries to get out of the creature, but it just moves over him. He feels he cannot breath anymore and is about to pass out.
Bofar attacks and hit the water being hard, and so do many others, finally hurting it enough. The creature for a moment takes Kesh too, but then Baik with a final blow destroys it, and it falls down in a pool of murky water. Soon Kesh and Suchi revive Lucius, who has to spit dirty water for a while. The same with Hasan, but soon you are able to go on. North of the courtyard with the pool there are the stairs to the upper temple, where Hasan says he and Rahasia's father left the pendant.
Guided by Hasan you move pass a cloakroom. Suddenly, a slender figure hurtles from the darkness, shouting a warrior’s challenge.
Rahasia however stops you from reacting. "Alki!" she says.
"I came as soon as I returned and at the village told me what happened". He replies.
"Alki is one of our best wizard warriors!" Hasan says.
But Alki has something urgent to say.
"I heard someone coming from the portals to the north", he says.

Scene XXVI - Hralen, Thaumont, Early Spring, 20th day, 993 AC

"Let's move to where me and Rahasia's father left the pendant then", Hasan quickly says.
You proceed to the north, through a roughly diamond-shaped cavern, covered with dust. Overhead, the ceiling opens into a great dome filled with stalactites. The cavern’s walls are covered with fresco paintings of the natural beauties of the world. A broad platform juts from the southwest wall into the center of the room. A 15-foot-tall statue of a strong man with a long beard sits on the platform with his legs crossed. Further north, a 10-foot-wide arched hallway runs into the darkness ahead. Off both sides of the hall are arched openings into several small rooms. Dust covers the hallway and old flower petals, now brown and dry, crackle underfoot. In each alcove is a stone statue of a philosopher or sage of the Siswa. Around the neck of a stone statue in one of the rooms there is a golden pendant with a black jade stone.
"Rahasia’s father carried the pendant with him to the temple. After helping Ular-Taman the snake, we had to escape a group of Siswa and he hid in this dead-end room, while I escaped the other way. Realizing he would soon be captured, I think he placed the pendant upon the statue and called on the spirit of the sage to protect it. Ulan Tamar said to use my ring", Hasan says, then he places the ring into the indentation in the pendant. The object comes off the statue, and Hasan and Rahasia look at it. Suddenly a writing in elvish appears behind the pendant.
"It says my name, Rahasia", she says softly.
"Your father enchanted it to protect you. He had no time to use it to protect himself, but I think it would be useful against these mysterious witches", Hasan says.
"Probably it will be enough to say Rahasia's name to activate it", Bellithiel says.
Alki and Sunggu the halfling in the meantime come from the northern corridor, warning you. "People coming!" the halfling says.
A group of heavily armed men appears, several warriors, but what you immediately notice are three figures behind them. A plump, robust man. Skarda. A man and a woman with armor and maces. The Iron Ring clerics you encountered in Stallanford and Threshold. And a dark haired man dressed in a robe. Oliver.
"Well but we always met in the more strange places", Oliver says, smiling at you.

Rahasia follows Lucius' suggestion and speak her name immediately. The pendant glows with a pale blue light. Just in time before two fireball, glowing brightly of orange red, raging fire, crash upon your group. The circle of blue light from the pendant keeps the fire away, but the heat is incredible, almost suffocating you. Still after the fire dissipates, you are surprised to find you and the others around you unscathed.
Skarda and Oliver have displeased expressions, but they soon start casting again. Their soldiers in the meantime rush onwards, attacking Baik, Benar, Kepala and Bechak on the front line. Bellithiel shoot an arrow, missing Skarda by an inch. Kesh tries a spell, and two soldiers fall down blocked, but there are still more than 10 standing and the two cleric. Sinar, another Rahasia's friend, hits a soldier with a magic missile, falling him.
Alki, Taran and Hasan however speak a bit among themselves. "We may be too low on spells and healing to try this fight now, Taran says. We should retreat to the lower level!"
"Also because the protection of the pendant lasts for a limited time only", Hasan says.

"I know a shortcut!", Hasan says, while Rahasia tells the others to disengage.
Kesh and Suchi create two regions of darkness on the enemy warriors, allowing you to retreat back to the temple of the Siswa, the cavern with the frescoes you passed just a while ago. Behind the altar with the statue, there is a shaft leading down to the darkness. Hasan plunges into it, Rahasia and the others following him in succession, then Alki, Baik, Taran and finally you, Bellithiel and Kesh.
You slide down to one of the cells in the lower level of the temple. Hasan opens it and guides you back to Ulan Tamar room.
"You have succeeded in taking the pendant - the magical snake says - but I sensed more intruders arrived!"
"And very dangerous ones - Kesh says - Skarda and his minions are probably here for the same reason the Rahib came. Take the artficat this temple was guarding. If the artifact is also connected to Skarda's mirror, we certainly cannot allow to let him have it!"
"Could we let Skarda fight the witches and then confront the winning party?", Bellithiel says.
"It is hard to judge what the greater evil could be - Taran says - the witches could be worst than Skarda if they take the artifact".
"Either we go now and try to defeat the witches before these newcomers reach them, or we wait for the events. But the events will not necessarily be favourable to us - Rahasia says - what if this Skarda allies with the witches against us?"

Skarda has consistently defeated us, so I doubt we can face him and Oliver together. We know almost nothing about the witches, and should we fight them Skarda will just wait and take out the winners. Our best option would be to get the artifact and bring it to a secure location.

Temple of the Gray Mountain
Scene XXVII - Hralen, Thaumont, Early Spring, 20th day, 993 AC

"We still risk to be caught between the anvil and the hammer if Skarda reaches us while we are busy fighting the witches, but indeed it is the best option we have. Let's move quickly then", Kesh says.
"Go north from here and down to Elyas' tower - Ulan Tamar says - if your enemies pursue you, I will try to stop them".
Rahasia and the others thank the magical creature. "It is my duty", he replies. They also leave here the magical transported body of the Rahib.
Then you take the tunnel north and down, reaching a dark, dry cavern, deep within the mountain. No sound breaks the silence in the cavern. Gray stone walls rise up 60 feet to the cavern’s rock and earth ceiling. This structure appears to be an ancient tower, buried under the mountain. Only the lowest story of the tower is intact. What little of the upper stories is visible are destroyed. Cut stones from walls and battlements lie scattered about the cavern floor. The cavern has caved in around the sides of the tower so only the front is visible. Darkly stained doors stand in the tower’s front wall. Unrecognizable engravings cover those metal doors. Applying some force, you can open the doors easily.
Behind there is a corridor lighted by some torches, and a larger room beyond. You can see several figures. The nearest one are two humans which are somehow similar to Baik and the Rahib in looks.
"The Rahib said you Siswa should stay above - one of the men says, his sword drawn - why are you here?"

Rahasia does not bother to reply, just casts a spell which sends one of the man immediately down sleeping. The other runs toward the bigger room beyond, but Bellithiel and Taran shoot arrows at him before he can run away. From the other room however an ogre charges toward you, followed by a minotaur, several orcs and goblins. The other elves and Kesh spread to meet the charge. A couple of goblins and a orc fall down, hit by some magic, but the ogre attacks Baik and Hasan, while the minotaur strikes at Lucius with two axes, pushing the shield and the sword of the warrior to the side and hitting him on both shoulders. The armor absorb part of the damage, but Lucius fells a terrible pain, and warm blood falling down under the damaged armor, on his clothes and skin.

Temple of the Gray Mountain
Scene XXVII - Hralen, Thaumont, Early Spring, 20th day, 993 AC

The ogre attack Hasan, but he parries the blow. Bofar attacks the minotaur and wounds him on the leg, the creature snorts in pain and attacks, but the dwarf avoid the blow. Then Kesh hits the minotaur fully in the knee, falling him. Bellithiel misses him with an arrow but two of the elves, Kepala and Jujur, hit him while he is down, and the minotaur stops moving.
Hasan and Baik hit the ogre, while Rahasia send a blinding spell on him, and three arrows hit him from Taran, Bechak and Sunggu. The goblins and orcs try to attack the other elves, but they do not do much damage. Benar strikes down a goblin, Suchi an orc and Alki and Mati wound two more orc.
The remaining orcs and goblins, now overmatched, runs away. An elf, Sinar, cast a web on them, sticking the group on the floor. Quickly, the elves tie up and gag the wounded.
Rahasia and Bellithiel however come to speak with you. Suchi in the meantime heals Lucius, but the armor of the warrior is damaged.
"We are now low on spells and healing and more enemies are certainly waiting for us, the witches in particular - Rahasia says - yet retreat or stop to rest could be more dangerous than continuing. If the witches succeed in using the artifact and go away or, even worse, Skarda allies with them, we could face an even worse situation. I think we should continue on fast, despite the risk".
"My duty to Karameikos is to stay, and I imagine the elves of Kota Hutan will not retreat either - Taran says addressing Lucius and Bofar - but you could also use the magical scroll to warn Nethril and see if he is coming with Penhaligon knights, then return to the village and wait for him, if you had enough."
"Maybe a small group of us should also stay behind to hinder Skarda", Bellithiel says.
"Yet we may need all our numbers against the witches", Kesh says.

I think trying to get out of here is as dangerous as pushing on, so... Bofar looks questioningly at Lucius.

Lucius nods. He looks over the prisoners to see if they have armor passable enough to replace at least parts of his damaged one -- maybe shoulder guards?

Bofar and Lucius can mend their armor using scraps from the prisoners. It is not pretty, but will work. Rahasia and the others decide to go on united. They block the double doors with magic and stones, to slow Skarda and his group a bit.
Then you go north to a great hall with broken and charred beams and rubble. Therubble has been moved to the center of the room. Overhead, the ceiling is broken through by beams and stones. Two passages are east and west and more double doors on the north. Rahasia leads you there.
You enter a dark, 10 meters wide hall with flat ceiling. Two alcoves are set in the east wall, and two in the west wall. The alcoves are 10 feet high and 10 feet deep and empty, A plush, red velvet curtain hangs across the north end of the hall.
With caution, you open the curtain. Most of the room beyond is taken up by a platform. Three steps lead up to the platform. A brazier, standing in the middle of the platform blazing with bright blue flame, illuminates this room. Three stone coffins are arranged in a triangle around the brazier. The largest coffin stands at the front of the platform. The coffins are covered with mysterious carvings. At the back of the platform, is an ornate cast-iron throne. To the left of the throne, a metal stand supports a large, ancient, leatherbound book. The book is closed, its cracked cover held by a metal clasp. A long quill pen lies on top of the book. The stand is turned so that the book, if opened, faces the throne.

"Only stories from the Siswa, they said the witches were buried there and forever imprisoned by Elyas. But obviously they are free now, somehow", the elf girl says.
"Should we open the coffin and see if there is something inside?" Bellithiel asks.
"They should still contain the original bodies of the witches, but the Rahib kidnapped Sylva and Merisa, and wanted Rahasia, to use their bodies. Two witches may already be around here inside the bodies of Sylva and Merisa", Hasan says.
