Temple of the Gray Mountain
Scene XXXI - Hralen, Thaumont, Early Spring, 20th day, 993 AC

The first question, almost everyone agrees, is how to defeat the witches. The obelisk replies:
Beyond the three temples of the elements, the Black dragons eye waits for thee, find its secret through nearby magical WAYS that have waited for many lonq years. BEWARE the tricks of old Elyas and return here with the Black Opal eye, to give it power then, set it in its place and behold the end of great sadness the Beginning of life, the destruction of evil and the end of strife.’’
The point of the obelisk is glowing and there is a small depression at the top of the obelisk where the Black Opal Eye would fit.
"Probably we have to place the gem here", Alki says.
Rahasia and Taran agree, so Alki places the gem. A spark appears in the centre of the Opal Eye and the obelisk ceases to glow.
"This must be part of Elyas ritual to destroy the witches. Apparently now we should search for these temples of the elements and black dragons eye", Hasan says.
"We have two more questions we can ask", Rahasia says.

"We should ask what the tricks of old Elyas are", Alki says.
Rahasia agrees, and the obelish replies: "Only by saying the right names of the temples you will be able to pass them", then nothing else.
"What are these names?", Hasan asks.
"Earth, Wind and Fire", replies the obelisk.
There are three doors, and after a short discussion Rahasia and the others decide to take the western one.
This room’s arched ceiling is 15 meters high. The walls and ceiling are covered with frescos depicting racing clouds and trees bent over under the force of a hurricane. At the west end of the room an altar stands atop a platform. Behind the altar, a lifesize shape of a human right hand is engraved in the wall.
Rahasia places his right hand into the engraving and a deep, hollow voice speaks, “Answer me and I'll answer thee. By what name call ye these temples three?
Rahasia answers, “Earth, Wind, and Fire”, and a secret door opens behind the hand.
Beyond there is a corridor and then a circular room, 10 meters in diameter. Its domed ceiling is 10 meters above the floor.
Three 3 meters wide alcoves are set into the north, west, and south walls. Three 6 meters tall stone statues stand in front of the alcoves around a smaller statue in the center of the room. All the statues are carved dragon heads on long necks. Gems in the right eyes of the southern and northern statues glow with dim blue light. The gem in the right eye of the western statue glows with a pulsing, bright red light. The impression of a hand is carved in the neck of each large dragon, within reach of normal humans.
The neck of the smaller center statue is hollowed out to form a niche. Within this niche sits an iron throne.
A black stone is set in the smaller statue’s left eye socket. The right eye socket is empty.
Suddently, Rahasia rushes to the western statue with the bright red gem.

Lucius tries to block her -- both because it could be dangerous, but mostly because she could be controlled by one of the witches.

Lucius tries to stop her, but the elf, agile and in light armour, easily escapes him. Hasan is nearer, and he is able to grab her, quickly asking what she is doing, but Rahasia wriggles free of his grasp too and touches the carving on the statue’s neck. As her fingers touch the carving, she and the statue are bathed in red light and she falls unconscious. After a few seconds she revives, apparently unhurt. The gem then glows blue.
"What happened?" Rahasia says, standing up.
"Someone else is coming", Jujur says in the meantime, indicating the two other doors on the corridor.

The left door in the corridor swings open and two panthers came forth, followed by a dark haired, beautiful female elf.
"Sister!" Rahasia whispers.
"What?" Hasan asks, confused.
"It is Merisa!" Alki says, referring to a female elf who was kidnapped from the village - "but probably not really her".
The newcomer smiles. "Please desist from opposing us. Leave the Black Opal Eyes to us so it will not fall in the hands of your enemies, which I understand, are coming to take it", she says.

They are possessed by the Witches... an incapacitating spell would be useful right now.

"No parley", Bellithiel says, while Kesh looks at Rahasia and cast a spell at her. The female elf however somehow resist it, and she begins casting something herself.
Then chaos breaks loose. One of "Merisa" panthers is the first to attack Lucius, hitting the warrior with a paw which has an incredible strenght, and pins him to the ground. The claws scratch the warrior, but fortunately the armor prevents he suffer a much serious damage.
Rahasia says something to Alki, and the wizard drops the Opal Eye and grasp his head, as in pain.
Bellithiel sends an arrow against "Merisa", but it simply bounces off the elf.
Taran attacks the other panther, wounding it, but the animal does not fall yet.
Baik comes to the aid of Lucius, but the panther avoids his sword.
Suchi cast a spell against "Merisa", but it apparently fails to produce an effect.
Merdiz too sends a magical dart against "Merisa", but it bounces off without hitting her as the normal arrow did.

Lucius rolls out the paw of the panther, but the beast is so strong he can hardly move it, and when he tries to attack the panther disarm him with a lucky hit on his arm. The sword slides some meters away.
Bechak is behind, protecting Myriala and captured "Sylva", but he shoots an arrow to the leg of "Merisa". This one too bounces off her.
The elven thief Jujur tries to tackle Rahasia, and manages to get her down, at least for the moment.
The other two elven warrior, Benar and Kepala, rush to help him.
"Merisa" now casts a spell. Taran, Baik, Suchi, Merdiz, Benar and Jujur fall down. Lucius too feels weak and sleepy, and falls to the floor.
Sinar rushes to Rahasia too, trying to take her pendant which can protect from hostile magic.
Mati casts a web over the panthers, temporarily imprisoning them.
Sunggu and Hasan try to help Sinar.
The panthers try to break free of the webs, but in the meantime Bofar can hit and wound even more the one already hitten by Taran. The beast roars in pain and rage, but it is not dead yet.
Alki now grabs the Opal Eye and runs to the Dragon Throne, where he places the gem.
"Merisa" screams in rage, but soon after she falls down, and the same happens to Rahasia and the still tied Sylva.
Now all three eyes of the dragon statues glow red. All becomes quiet, then soon Bellithiel and Alki shakes all the ones who fell asleep.
Mati casts a sleep spell over the panthers, which stop moving.
"It seems we have won", Bellithiel says, a bit of incredulity in her voice.

Lucius recovers his sword and checks his wounds. Then he says: "What do we do now? We need to keep the gem out of Skarda's reach, and we need to contain the witches too".

Rahasia now recovers too, as Sylva and Merisa. The girls hug each others in relief.
"The Siswa now should be back on their sense, so they will fight any intruder they will find in the Temple. But if your enemy, this Skarda, has defeated Ulan Tamar he could also have freed the Rahib and above us the situation could be quite chaotic", Alki says.
"We have to return above now and help the Siswa", Hasan says.
"We are basically out of spells except for some scrolls and the protection power of Rahasia's medallion will soon expire", Sinar says.
"But I think now we have no other choice but to face Skarda and his minions. We cannot allow he takes the Black Opal Eyes as we could not allow the witches to have it. Questions, opinions?" Taran says, looking at you and others.

We cannot leave the Black Opal Eye unprotected. Skarda and his minions have the disturbing habit of appearing out of nowhere and stealing magic items.

"Take it with us seen the best option indeed. I wish I had more time to understand how the orb could be used", Alki says.
Bellithiel and Rahasia agree and you return to the previous rooms and the magical portals, to the treasure rooms protected by the magical archways. Here, before the corridor which leads to the magical elevator, nine puzzled men and women are looking around, while the Platinum statues you saw before are gone.

As you approach one of the men comes forth, raising his hand as about to cast a spell.
"Who are you??" he says
The others seem ready to back him, but not fully convinced, as if they were discussing among themselves when you arrived. You see five human men, a dwarf, an halfling female and two human women. All seem adventurous types.

"Fine, I will answer first. Most of us do not know each others, we are all explorers who came here searching for treasures. We do not even agree on which year it is. Are you here for the same reason? It seems we fall into a trap which blocked us", the unknown wizard says.

"One year I've been down here?" the wizard says, confused. But others have a even more bewildered reaction.
A dwarf and a man, speaking among themselves, ask Bofar from where he cames, telling him without waiting for his answer they are from Rockhome, 941 AC in human date. The halfling female goes to Sunggu, as the only other halfling, asking about the Shires as she says she came here in 820 AC.
The other humans, three men and two women, go to Lucius and Merdiz, speaking one above the other. A man is apparently a Ylari, and says he was sent by Al Kalim in 830 AC. A man is a Thyatian, and he says he was an explorer of General Osteroupolos in 902 AC. Another man and a woman, looking with hostility at the previous one, say they came for Traladara in 948 AC. The last woman says she came in 753 AC and insists it is not possible so much time has passed. She also wants to see her companions, who were with her in the Temple.

You think it's not 993? Well, consider this: all of you think it's a different date. What were you doing last before meeting those other people in this room? I guess they weren't here before -- or you weren't. We're the only ones who came from a freaking door... which means we're the only ones not time-displaced. As far as we understand, until a few minutes ago you were transformed into platinum statues by some trap, locked here for years or centuries. Your comrades, unless they were very long lived, are likely gone.
