I'd rather walk... I wouldn't trust too much any "merchant" that visits this place, hin or not.

"Well if that's the will of the majority, let's walk at dawn", Sam says.
For the moment you go to the Croc's Nest, the only inn and tavern of the place. The owner is a big Traladaran man who does not ask questions and gives you a small room with straw bed you will have to share.
There is a passable beer and wine to drink and fish, fish soups and mushrooms to eat, not too bad. The tavern is managed by the man, a woman in the kitchen of whom you only hear the voice and two young wenches who seem quite friendly with human customers, and polite to others.
The other occupants are some humans who seem to be Traladaran sailors, a caymen, an halfling and a lizardmen.
A brown haired wench clearly offer her companionship to Lucius, should he be interested.
Sam goes to talk to the halfling, and returns soon after. "He says he is a trader too but looks more like an adventurer, travelling with a cayman and a lizardmen. He says a hin ship will come in the morning, but if we have decided to walk, so be it. The cayman however could be an ideal guide, if I can persuade him", Sam says.

Good, let's see if this cayman agrees.

Sam goes talking to the hin and the cayman and returns a while later.
"He agrees to be our guide, starting tomorrow morning. He say the route is not particularly dangerous, barring the usual creatures which dwells in the swamp. He requests two golds, but I think it can be accepted. Then we will leave tomorrow", Sam says.
You go to bed relatively early and pass a quiet night in the room. The morning after the sky is dark and the cayman says it may be necessary to stop earlier if it will rain too much. He speaks barely some Thyatian and Traladaran, but enough to be understandable. You soon realize the cayman is really an excellent guide, pointing to you where to pass to minimize the difficulties of walking the swamp, and warning against snakes, treacherous sands and vegetation and carnivorous plants.
By mid morning you have covered quite some terrain, but then the cayman stops and tells you to lay low.
"Many many lizardmen!", he says. There are indeed more than fifteen armed lizardmen. The cayman make some gestures, indicating he thinks you have two options. One is to fight, but the odds are clearly against you, even if you may have a chance if you attack trying to maximize the surprise factor. The other option is to run through a vast area of serpentweed and quicksand, hoping to lose the pursuers there. You clearly do not have much time to decide.

Do you think we could lose them in the swamp? I suspect they know them quite well.

The lizardmen have not seen you yet, but it seems they will come very near to your hiding spot, making quite difficult they will not see you. With some words and gesture the cayman guide says they may be too many to fight, but if you feel it's too dangerous to run, you can try to hide.
The cayman points you to some vegetation and mud, showing how to cover yourselves.
Kesh nods. "Let's hide as best as we can. If they see us, I have a spell prepared. With it and a furious charge, we should be able to scare them away!"

Hidden by mud and vegetation, you escape notice of the lizardmen party. Soon they go away and you can breath again.
Chitiss, the cayman guide, soon urges you to continue and by late afternoon without further incidents he says you are approaching a caymen town.
As far as you can see there is no sign of it, but soon you notice some caymen coming toward you on big swimming alligators.
The caymen guards talk a bit with your guide, then lead you to what seems to be a great mound of weed surrounded by big trees and water. You realize soon the big mound has openings, and caymen going thorugh them.
A cayman with two bone swords and a leather armour comes to see you with other guards around him.
"Athiz son of Ssysly chief of the Swamp Riders", your guide says to introduce him.
Then the cayman chief and your guide talk for a while in their strange hissing and clicking language before the guide translate for you.
"Chief says as you going to the Shires and we have good relations with the hin, me will guide you to halfling guards. We do not want Black Eagle men creating trouble. You have an hin among you so we do not believe you are Black Eagle men, but chief takes no chances", the guide says. Then he explain you can eat and sleep in a small cave dug under one of the trees, where you will be safe for the night.

The well guarded caymen village is safe for the night and you sleep soundly.
The morning after the caymen even give you some fine cooked fish and vegetables for breakfast, then you resume your trip with the guide. Sam does not fail to notice from time to time other caymen which are observing you, clearly to make sure you follow your course to the Shires.
It has been five days since you lost the others at Trinkla's pyramid and it's the 17th day you are in the swamp, but according to the cayman guide, Chitiss, it could be your last, as the border is near.
"Hin border guards should not be a problem for me. I have an acquaintance in Rollstone keep and they should let us pass easily. Probably we should head directly to Rollstone port and search for a ship to sail to Specularum. No hin ships sail to Halag obviously and rarely to the other towns in between, as Sulescu", Sam says.
"It should be the best option we have. Then we should try to contact the Duke's government to let them know we have the orb. And Highforge too", Kesh says.

First things first. Let's focus on getting back to Specularum. Then we unload our cargo, and we go back to Highforge.

Blight Swamp to Rollstone port, Five Shires
Scene LXVI - Hwyrlen, Flaurmont 26th day, 993 AC

By the early afternoon your guide leads you to the border of the swamp. Not too far you can see a hin burrow with a small tower nearby, probably built with the intention of keeping an eye on the swamp. The cayman guide wishes you luck and let you go, keeping an eye on your direction.
Sam anyway goes straight to the tower and a couple of armed halfling soon comes out to check on you, with a couple of others with readied bows on the tower.
Sam speaks to the halfling in a language Lucius and Bofar do not know, but Taradain can understand it as hin.
"No problem, one of them will lead us to Rollstone port, and we will be able to wait for a ship there", Sam says.
Soon indeed a young halfling soldier leads you to the port, through a 3 miles long small road among some fields, orchards and flocks of sheep. The peaceful countryside is a dramatic change from the environment of the swamp.
In a hour you reach the port, not a very big town but still with a wall, three wharfs and three small but heavily armed halfling ships. The rest of the town is made of a small castle and some round houses, including a big and busy inn with halfling and humans on the front.
"The Port's Well Inn will surely have people knowing about the ships coming and going", the halfling soldier says, then he salutes you and go back.
"The last few days have been surprinsingly relaxing and danger free. Let's continue so. We will inquire in the inn, obviously not saying to anyone what we are carrying. Iron ring or Black Eagle spies may be around", Sam says.

The inn seems like a fine place and you can enjoy a good meal with good ale and sleep in a private room. There are many people inside, hin soldiers and traders and some humans. Sam soon discovers a hin ship should arrive tomorrow in the early afternoon with next stop in Specularum.
The mood in the inn is merry and many hin ask you about your travels. Sam concots a funny story of misadventures in the swamp, without mentioning the Black Orb, Trinkla or Rosentos, which seems to satisfy the public.
"Not to tell them where we have been and what we are doing here would have draw much more unwanted attention than telling them some credible story. Halfling are open and highly suspicious of those who are not", Sam explains later.
Soon however you go to sleep, and Sam takes care of the door.
During the night however you are awaken by a noise, and someone cursing behind the door, and then running down the stairs.
"So I did the right thing placing a trap on the doorknob. Clearly someone was trying to enter our room to check on us. A Iron Ring spy most likely. I believe we have to do guard turns, in case they get bolder", Sam says.

Rollstone port to Harbourlee Rock
Scene LXVIII - Hwyrlen, Flaurmont 27th day, 993 AC

The rest of the night is quiet and you do not notice anyone suspicious, apparently, in the common room of the inn the morning after. Sam however is not convinced. "If they haven't done something tonight, they will try something else. I do not believe it was a coincidence that someone tried to enter our room", the halfling says.
You still have a quiet morning and lunch while keeping an eye on the wharfs, then by early afternoon a ship, The Hin Chest, approaches and docks.
You go to speak to the captain, a round halfling with a short beard, who introduces himself as Lom, and agrees to take you to Specularum.
The ship's crew unloads some crates and loads more while you board.
"It's about 210 miles to Specularum. It could be a easy, fast trip of three days or a difficult one. It depends on the sea, the winds and the pirates who serve Von Hendriks. Occasionally, sea creatures too. If you have some friendship with Protius, use it!", the captain says to welcome you.
"Today we will cover just the 16 miles to Harbourlee Rock, an island contested between the Shires and the Black Eagle. But the port on the Shire side should be safe enough. Then there are the waters of Halag, which are not safe, and will be even less so if we have someone on our trail. But we have to go on and hope for the best, I guess", Sam says later while the ship departs the docks of Rollstone port.
"I have no friendship with Protius, but I hope praying to Garal will do", Kesh says.

Harbourlee Rock and Open sea
Scene LXIX - Hwyrlen, Flaurmont 27-28th day, 993 AC

There is a good wind the first day and you arrive in Harbourlee Rock easily and fast. The small island has a single dock, a lighthouse and a small village with some halfling and a warehouse. The local commander, an halfling who presents himself as Deputy Hildigrim Hardfoot, comes on board to check on you, but seems satisfied of what Sam tells him. He warns you the other side of the island is occupied by Von Hendriks, and pirates may be informed of your presence. The captain says The Hin Chest is fast, and has escaped pirates before.
The morning after you continue your voyage, a strong wind sending you fast to the south along the shores of Halag. The captain is clearly alert and watches on all sides with a spyglass. And indeed by late morning another ship shows up to the northeast, slowly gaining on you.
"Karameikan flag and signals as trade ship. Black Eagle pirates do that obviously. Keep an eye on the deck, see if you see a suspicious number of armed men. In the meantime, I'll try to keep my distance", Captain Lom says.
The captain handles you the spyglass and you take a look at the deck of the ship. For a while, you only see sailors, but some instants later you see someone looking at you with a spyglass. You are not completely sure as he is dressed differently, but the figure seems suspiciously similar to the elf you escaped in the Blight Swamp.

Open Western Karameikan Sea
Scene LXX - Hwyrlen, Flaurmont 28th day, 993 AC

All your doubts are dissipated once a ballista moves on the other ship and a very big arrow hits the sea just a few feet from your hull.
Immediately the captain gives order to crowd on the sail and proceed at full speed. While for a while it seems your ship is going faster, soon you see the other pursuing ship has speeded up too and it's shortening the distance.
Sam looks with the spyglass again. "They have hoisted a pirate banner. A skull inside an iron ring. But a hin ship would never surrender to them", Sam says.
The crew indeed, 8 hin and two humans, seems deadly serious in working together to reach the maximum possible speed.
The other ship still continues to pursuit, but it has not tried anymore to fire the ballista. The ship for now is too far to be hit by normal missile weapons.
