Scene LXX - Hwyrlen, Flaurmont 28th day, 993 AC

The two pirates charge at Bofar and Lucius, but their strikes are not too subtle nor strong. Bofar and Lucius easily parry and strike back, wounding them. The one against Bofar falls on his knees and is struck by Kesh directly in the head, dropping down.
The one against Lucius furiously fight back, slashing the warrior in the arm and drawing blood. But then Lucius strikes him again and Sam backstabs him too, putting him down.
In the meantime your helmsman was trying to get away, but the enemy ship reaches you quite soon, favoured by a gust of wind. Your helmsman again tries to outmaneuver the enemy, but this time his counterpart on the other ship is smarter, and succeed in ramming you straight in the left side.
You fall down on the deck for the blow, hearing the roars of the boarding enemies as you get up.

The elf scream to his men to charge at you but only four run immediately on your deck. Six more, clearly common sailors, linger behind not really ready to put up much of a fight, and the helmsman remain at his post. On your side anyway only Captain Lom seems to be a fighting type, as the six still unwounded sailors do not look much eager to kill either. So the ships crew engage in what seems more an unwilling fist fights than a last blood battle, while the only four enthusiastic fighters rush at you.
The major threat however is the elf, who drops a circle of darkness over Sam, Kesh and Captain Lom. The four fighters attack Lucius, Bofar and Taradain. The girl is hit by one and falls down. Another stabs Lucius in the shoulder, penetrating the armour. The fighter is now bleeding from two wounds, and begins to fell the fatigue.
Bofar parries and tries to strike back, but the enemy fighter, a quick one, trips him. The dwarf slips and loses his weapons and the enemy raises his cutlass for a slashing blow.
Lucius, despite the wounds, strikes at one the enemy, who however parries the blows.
Kesh dispels the darkess somehow, and Sam shoots at one enemy fighter, wounding him.
The elf sends a magical web over Kesh and Sam, imprisoning them.
Captain Lom however fires a crossbow at the elf, hitting him fully in the neck. The elf falls back, holding to a rope, trying to take a small blue vial from his pocket, clearly seriously wounded.

The elf extracts the bolt and drink a potion, regaining some colour. Captain Lom shoots again, but this time misses him.
Kesh and Sam struggle under the web, while the four enemy fighter attack Lucius and Bofar. The warrior is hit again by a flat blade, adding more pain to his injuries, but manages to hit the fighter previously hit by Sam, dropping him down.
Bofar avoid the blows and manages to regain his standing and his weapon.

The elf has regained enough strengh to send a magical bolt against the halfling captain. The hin obviously feels the blow, but it is strong and fast enough to send another bolt against the elf, who this time falls down.
Kesh and Sam in the meantime are cutting free of the magical web, and one of the enemy warriors attack them, missing Kesh.
The other two are still against Lucius and Bofar. Lucius is hit again and cut on a leg. Enraged, the warrior stabs his attacker, who finally falls down.
Lucius is bleeding and tired, and falls on his knees.
Bofar avoids another blow from his attacker and strikes back, but the enemy warrior parries.

Kesh and Sam, finally free, focus on the warrior attacking them and put him down with two full placed blows. Lucius drinks a potion to heal, while Bofar attack, scratching the enemy who barely parries the blow. The enemy warrior anyway realizes he is now alone and jumps back on his ship. Captain Lom in the meantime has dropped one of their sailors, and your crew is clearly gaining the upper hand. The helmsman of your ship disengage the flank from the enemy's ram, and the ships slowly drift apart. The sailors of the pirate crew quickly jump on their vessel, accompanied by the insults of the hin crew. The enemies, wounded or dead, are thrown overboard.
Soon while Kesh heals Taradain and Lucius, Captain Lom orders to repair the flank as soon as possible and the ship is back on its course.
Later, looking with the spyglass, you see the enemy ship is still on sight.
"I suppose the elf is not dead and they will continue to pursue, but we will signal them to the harbourmasters in Specularum. They will be unable to approach the port. Probably they will imagine this and will not even try. They will disembark our pursuers somewhere near the city", Sam says.
"They are not my immediate worry now. I'm more concerned about the agents the Iron Ring or Skarda may have in Specularum, waiting for us. A flying pigeon, if not magic, will be enough to warn them we are arriving in the city with the Black Orb", Kesh says.

Are we likely to shake them off anyway? We'd be pretty easy to spot even if we disembarked in Vandvicsny or Ourosco.

"Disembark earlier could be a good idea, but if the Iron Ring ship keep following us, even from a distance, they will eventually realize our ship has made a stop and warn whatever of their agents could be waiting for us on the road", Kesh says.
"Another option is to wait inside the ship on the dock in Specularum until we can ask for the intervention of Master Higgings, the hin advisor of Duke Stephan. I trust him, and he will promptly inform Lord Korrigan. They will send guards to escort us to the Palace", Sam says.
"This is not a bad idea either, what do you think?", Kesh asks.

From open Western Karameikan Sea
Scene LXXI - Hwyrlen, Flaurmont 28th day - Styrlen Yarthmont 1st-2nd day, 993 AC

"Right, they will not stop with simply guards, we have to assume they may come in force, so the Elvenguard it is. I will stress the danger to Higgins", Sam says.
The rest of the day is quiet, you see another merchant ship with a Ierendian flag, but this one does not attempt to approach and seems legit.
The crew repairs the hull as best as possible. Looking with the spyglass, you can still see the Iron Ring ship following you, but they are so far now it seems they will be unable, or unwilling, to catch you again.
Navigation goes on for the night and the morning after, 1st of Yarthmont, or Styrlen for the gnomes, Gondulrim for the halfling, you pass the coasts of Vandevicsny and Ourosco.
"Out of the Black Eagle waters now, but still a day and a night to Specularum, likely", Captain Lom says.
The winds are strong today and by the evening the Captain says you are looking at Sulescu, an illuminated castle you can see on the coast.
As soon as you enter Specularum bay however the wind decreases dramatically and while you have covered a lot of waters by day, by night the ship goes distinctly slower. The Captain stays up in the night looking with the spyglass at the Iron Ring ship, which for a time seems to get significantly closer, but then suffers the effect of the weak winds as you do.
"With this speed we will not arrive in Specularum until early afternoon tomorrow", Captain Lom says.
You keep guard on turn during the night but the Iron Ring ship does not get closer.
By the morning Captain Lom indicates Marilenev Castle on the western coast, then the mouth of the Volaga. There are still about 13 miles of river to cross, but when you enter it the Iron Ring ship does not apparently follow.
Except for the sight of a giant bass in the river, many farms, cows, sheep and smaller and bigger ship, the river trip is uneventful.
The sun is shining by early afternoon when you enter Specularum's port in all its magnificence.
"Back at home friends, yet before enjoying it we will have to wait while I send that message", Sam says.

The elf will have his magic back -- he might be able to fly while invisible, for what we know, or to send messages. We must remain vigilant.

"That's sensible advice, better ask for magical help. Our enemies could be ready for anything and we do not know what resources they have in the city", Kesh says.
Sam speaks to Captain Lom to send that message, while an official of the docks comes aboard to look at the ship and cargo. Captain Lom pays the fee and sends one of his crew to report to Master Higgins, hin advisor to Duke Stephan.
The messenger return after a couple of quiet hours, reporting that Master Higgins has agreed to come personally soon with his guards and further help. In the meatime a human trader also arrive to speak with Captain Lom and take part of the cargo, and the crew start to unload several crates.
"Not sure if it's better to stay overboard to check on things or hide in the hold while we wait", Sam says.

Port and streets of Specularum
Scene LXXIII - Styrlen Yarthmont 2nd day, 993 AC

The sunset is approaching and most of the cargo has been unloaded when Master Higgings arrives with his men, and elves. In the meantime Sam has been up on the deck to check the situation, while you stayed down with the orb.
Master Higgings has six Duke guards with him and four Elven guards. He seems to be a friendly and competent halfling. He and Sam obviously know each others as they hug briefly. After greeting and thanking again Captain Lom and his crew, you leave the ship and proceed on the streets of Specularum.
Through the Merchant District and the Market Plaza to the Duke Stronghold the road is relatively short, and you try to go as fast and uncospicuous as possible, but as soon as you are at the end of the Market Plaza something happens.
People began to run in every direction, clearly in panic, many toward you. A dark, greenish cloud is coming your way, with people caught by it falling down. You are pushed by several people running around in the confusion, while the guards try to form a circle around you and Master Higgings.

"Watch out!", cries Sam near you, pointing at Kesh who was right behind you. The gnome, who had the Orb in his backpack, has fallen down and a man is now cutting the straps with the clear intent of taking it.

Streets of Specularum
Scene LXXIII - Styrlen Yarthmont 2nd day, 993 AC

The man cuts the backpack and tries to escape, avoiding Lucius blow. He is caught on the leg by Bofar's hammer, though. Hurt, the man tries to stab the dwarf, but his knife slips on Bofar's armor and fall on the ground. Lucius in the meantime manages to cut his arm, taking Kesh's backpack. An elf of the elvenguard intervenes, tying quickly the wrists of the man and blindfolding him.
Kesh has just passed out from a blow in the head, and Sam helps you carrying him.
Master Higgins soon orders the guards to move on quickly toward the Duke Stronghold.
At the gate the guards soon let you him and you gather in the main courtyard.
"Attacking me and my guards in full daylight in the market is something indeed. They clearly want this item badly. I'm putting it on heavy heavy guard and probably very soon the Duke himself and Lord Korrigan would like to speak to you", Master Higgins says as soon as you are inside the castle.
