Eveskyr - Krondsfield
Scene I - Hralen, Thaumont, Early Spring, 15-16th day, 993 AC

Gila gives you a scroll of communication, and the 15th day of Thaumont, 993 you, Kesh and Bellithiel say goodbye to friends in Eveskyr and travel to Krondsfield, reaching Denbol by midday and Guido's Fort by the evening. Both locations are peaceful and the local people you know are happy to greet you. Lord Marco, Cullen and Gareth offer you a dinner in Guido's Fort, and the gnome wizards Killi and Vane are present too. They pray you to report to Eveskyr that there is a consistent rumour that the goblins of the Dymrak woods are uniting under the leadership of nine witches. They wonder if the three nice old women you met on the Hill are part of them. So far however no connection to Skarda seems to be present.
The day after you travel from Guido's Fort to Krondsfield, reaching the town you had already visited the last summer by the afternoon. At the Red Dragon Inn the locals know Nethril the wizard is waiting for people to help him search for a lost friend.
Bellithiel has met Nethril before and guide you to his tower, which is quite prominent in the small town.
There is a guard at the base who lets you in after speaking with someone inside, and a well dressed servant who leads you up through rooms full of tables, scrolls, beakers and strange stuffed creatures. In one of the upper rooms an old, almost bald and bearded man is reading a book, but he rises when you enter.
"Greetings, travellers. I've sent words to Highforge, Penhaligon and Kelvin, but you are the first to arrive. A few days ago Taran, a sergeant of the Elven Guard and a friend of mine who normally lives in Kelvin, came here. He was on a secret mission for the Baron and the Duke. It seems the wizards of Specularum have found some obscure lore about the mirror in connection with Demara's castle. This is a famous ruin around here, once the property of a local noble family and then of a wizard who was famous for possessing an item called the Orb of Dragonkind, which supposedly could turn someone into a dragon. No one ever found the orb and the ruins were explored several times already. However when 5 days passed I became a bit worried about Taran and the day before yesterday I sent 6 local adventurers to check the ruins. They have not returned either. Well it takes almost a day to reach the ruins, so this is not necessarily meaningful. Still, I know you are quite experienced so tell me your thoughts. Should we try to assemble a force or would you be willing to take a look yourselves?"

Bellithiel and Kesh insist to go looking for Taran, so the following day you go east through the hills, quickly leaving behind farms and roads to enter a wild forest. You reach Demara's castle by mid afternoon. The ruins seems quite dilapidated and do not seem inhabited. But as you enter the first central room you meet four gnolls armed with crude but seemingly effective weapons similar to morning stars. The humanoids growl at you, then one speak in poor Thyatian.
"Intruders leave, this Bonemashers territory now. Or we flay you!"

The gnolls spread in the room trying to surrender you. The space is not too big and the gnolls have long legs, so they are quick to attack. The first gnoll attack Lucius but misses him. The second gnoll hits Kesh, but the cleric chainmail saves him. The third gnoll misses Bofar barely. The fourth gnoll runs to Bellethiel, but she fires first. However the arrow hits armor and bounces away, and the gnoll sweep the bow away from the elf's hands. She draw her sword. Kesh then casts magic, dropping down both his gnoll and Bofar's gnoll. The other two, terrified by this display of magic, try to run away from the room.

The gnoll who was attacking Lucius runs away first. Lucius tries to stop him, but the gnoll avoids the attempt and leaves the room. Kesh, Bofar and Bellithiel attack too but only the dwarf manages to hit the other fleeing gnoll. Yet the creature falters but does not fall and runs away too. "Should we pursue or prepare?" Bellithiel asks.

Let's first check if these two are still alive and tie them if they are. Otherwise I agree with Lucius. Let's not rush into an ambush.

The two gnolls are alive but blocked by Kesh's magic. Bellithiel suggest you should interrogate them and she should stay on guard with her bow should anyone come. Kesh says he will try to interrogate one gnoll. But now that you can take a better look around you immediately notice there are three doors in this room, and several piles of rubble.
The two gnolls escaped through the right door, there is another in front of you and one behind.
From the one behind, six kobolds come out screaming and rushing to you with small swords. You are not caught unprepared because you heard some noises, so Lucius is the first who can face the kobolds. But obviously he will not be able to keep all the creatures at bay.

A first kobold attacks Lucius, but he avoid the hit easily. Two more attack immediately after, but one's hit is blocked by Lucius' shield and the other by the chainmail. Then it's time for Bofar to attack, hitting a kobold and pushing him back one step. The kobold tries to counterattack, but he loses his short sword in the attempt. Kesh tries to hit another but misses, while the kobold hits but apparently does not do much damage. Bellithiel tries to shot another, but the kobolds ducks in time.
Two kobolds stay on Lucius, but both fail to hit him, another go to attack Bofar but just hit him on the mail, while the other in front of him picks up his sword. Bofar smashes on this latter kobold, putting him down. Kesh is hit again, but again sustain minimal damage. The last kobold runs to Bellithiel, but she shoots him point blank, and the kobold falls down. Now however a much larger humanoid, a hobgoblin, comes from the door the gnolls took before. He hits the elf, but the blow is absorbed by the chainmail and Bellithiel, cursing, draw her sword to fight him.

Bofar continues to hit kobolds nearest him.
Gnolls, kobolds, hobgoblin. What next? Ogre? Goblin?

The kobold against Bofar tries to hit him, but the dwarf strike him down too with a powerful blow.
Kesh likewise strikes down his opponent after the kobold fails to hit.
The hobgoblin tries to hit Bellithiel but misses, while the elf hits him, but the blow is absorbed by the reinforced leather the hobgoblin is wearing.
Now one of the gnolls who escaped before returns, accompanied by an orc. The gnoll charges against Bofar, while the orc strikes at Kesh.

Bofar avoid the charge of the gnoll and tries to hit him but misses. The gnoll hits the dwarf on the arm, but lucklily his blade is partially blocked by leather and causes only a very small cut.
The orc strikes Kesh, and the gnome seems to suffer the blow, even if he strikes back immediately.
The hobgoblin wounds Bellithiel, drawing some blood, while the elf fails to hit him back.

Bofar avoids the hit of the gnoll and strikes the enemy hard on the belly, but the blow is still not enought to bring the gnoll down, who growls and continues to attack.
The orc tries to hit Kesh again, but the gnome parries with his mace and then both him and Lucius hit the orcs, who drops to the ground wounded.
Bellithiel and the hobgoblin have an inconclusive exchange of blows, but as she almost loses her sword, the hobgoblin takes the time to run away to the eastern door. The gnoll against Bofar, now alone, retreats to the door as fast as he can, trying to block any blow with the sword to run away as well..

Lucius fails to hit the gnoll, but Bofar does not miss and the gnoll falls down easily, groaning in pain. Lucius can put his sword on the throat of the enemy easily, forcing him to surrender.
Now you have 2 blocked gnolls, 5 fallen kobolds, the wounded orc and this gnoll in the room. The kobolds are unconscious or dead and the 2 blocked gnolls cannot speak, but the orc manages to say something.
"We just tried to slow you. Bonegnasher now coming with wolves, shaman and thirty warriors. You will crushed, you should run away now", he snarls in almost acceptable Thyatian.
