[TC1 Reboot]Out of Character chat

Hey, all. This topic is set up for largely out of character discussion.

Meta-gaming tactics, questions for each other or the DM about how a mechanic might work in a play by post environment, and get to know your fellow players.

Also, for griping about how your day went, if that's your thing.

The hot and humid weather is upon us in Montreal - it is an island after all. Time to do some pbp gaming in the basement!

The hot and humid is here in south TX, as well. No basement, though, since we sort of sit atop the Edwards Aquifer water table.

Well, at least in Arizona, it is a dry heat. Be wary of that heat advisory though; summer heat can reach up to 120° F (48.88° C), it can be detrimental to being out in it regardless of whether as a driver (that kind of heat can cause cars to break down) or as a cyclist/pedestrian (heatstroke)!

Getting grey and damp in London. We've had our two days of summer this year.

Hey all! I'll be playing your meat shield in this adventure, Horvik the Unruly from the Soderfjord region. New to The Piazza, but veteran D&D geezer. Looking forward to getting in to some shenanigans together.

As far as heat goes, I will take 105F+ and 5% humidity over the crap up here. Today is a a nice summer day in PA (90F & 60% humidity). But days like this past Sunday (95F & 85%) suck! For whatever reason, I decided to simply sit out on my deck putting together some new patio furniture. Within an hour my shirt was soaked as if I was running a marathon, not sitting on my ass doing nothing. LOL

Hi Torkill13! Welcome to The Piazza.

I hope you enjoy RobJN's game! :D

You might also want to pop over to the Introduce yourself here topic, say hello to the people who are not part of the game and tell them a bit about yourself and the D&D settings and rules that you like to talk about.

Hello Torkill and mah9! Very happy that we are 4 players.

@ RobJN : How many posts per day are we suppose to do? I've never played pbp.

Glad you could make it, Torkill! Hurray! One less NPC to play! :D

Posts per day really depends on what's going on and how active the other players are. My Throne of Stars play by post had flurries of posts, back-and-forth amongst the players while they decided on courses of action, or discussed this plot point or that one. We're talking multiple posts per day by most of the players. They set the pace, and I provided context or NPC chatter as-needed.

I'd say once every couple days at minimum. I don't like to advance a scene until every player has contributed at least one post, but if more than three days pass, I'll usually go ahead and pull the trigger and hope the lapsed player can catch up.

So pacing will depend on you, my dear players.

I work in IT, so I am in front of a computer all day... except for days like today that are overflowing with meetings! Most days I am posting multiple times a day in multiple games, as long as there is action happening in the game.

Since this is basically open to the public, are there there rules or guidelines on the use of "adult" language. Figured I'd ask BEFORE my character starts spouting off and gets his player in trouble

I would try to keep it PG-13/R. Cussing? Be inventive, but try to keep it tasteful: there are so many ways to convey the same meaning, and so many Immortals to invoke.

Oh, and as a side note: don't forget to roll for your trinket! (Basic PDF, pp 56-57)

I should be able to post a couple of times a day, there's quite a bit of downtime on my commute, but depends on mobile reception. Our IT rules won't allow posting from the work computers, probably not a bad thing tbh.

I played a couple of pbem games a few years ago, but nothing for over 10 years. And not played pbp before.

Easy enough, just wanted to clarify up front.

"Immortals? They're fairy tales." Horvik spits on the ground. "Odin and Thor are true Gods!"

So, here is Horvik's cue, to enter stage right. :P

Entrance made and trinket rolled... I always love how the dice tell their own story!

Trinket: [1d100] = 10 The deed for a parcel of land in a realm unknown to you.

Now I know why Horvik has journeyed so far.

How do we generate dice rolls? Just grab the dice and roll?
