(Another thread resurrection, for you "More Senior Members" memists!)
Although I do have a few (too few) sci-fi based minis from Gamma World, Traveller, Star Frontiers and Star Wars, I have a lot of counters that came with one or more Traveller boxed sets or Star Frontiers Alpha Dawn or Knight Hawks sets. The great thing about counters is also the bad thing about counters: their small size.
While very adaptable to large scale maps, they're of a size too small to place and re-locate each turn easily or accurately.
I had the same problem with Star Fleet Battles ship counters: one bad bump on the table, or accidentally shifting the map will send the counters skittering all over. Basically a PITA. Minis could be more useful for one inch = 5 or 10 feet/1 to 3 yards/meters scaled maps, but having maps of Ahzanti Lightning Class cruisers would get very tedious and take up a lot of table/floor space.
