Genies Great and Small: 21 New Genies of Zakhara

Kobold Press have just published a new Al-Qadim product called Genies Great and Small: 21 New Genies of Zakhara:
Genies Great and Small: 21 New Genies of Zakhara at DM's Guild wrote:Genies Great and Small: 21 New Genies of Zakhara

I Hear, and Hearing Obey!

The world of the elements unfolds for you, effendi! For a pittance, these marvelous creatures and elemental powers of the Land of Fate shall be revealed to you:

  • Behold 4 elemental gen, minor genies that are servants to their betters!
  • The secrets of a bottled genie template and an exemplar to show its worth!
  • Three true genies unknown to most, from the anguished, watery nafurz to the swiftflying khamsiri of the desert winds!
  • Thirteen tasked genies, including deceivers, harim servants, oathbinders, miners, and winemakers!

Expand the lands of the genies with new creatures and new magic to surprise your players and create new adventures worthy of the 1,001 Nights!

Has anyone bought this?

What do you think of it?

Do you think it fits in well with the original Al-Qadim books?

Is it easy to retro-convert these genies and use them with 2nd Edition rules?

Most of the genies mentioned already have second edition stats. They're straight from the Al-Qadim monstrous compendium.

Nonetheless, Kobold Press. Quality is probably going to be pretty nice, and it never hurts to have someone else do the converting for you.

Oh yeah, it's not a bad thing. It's nice to have the 2e genies back in print. Wolfgang Baur invented most of these back in the 2e era, so his company is the right choice to do them now. I'm just saying that "retro-conversion" isn't necessary.

Nah, didn't mean to sound like I thought is was a bad thing! It *is* good to have genies back.

I'm an old KQ and Open Design patron, as well as an AQ fanboy. I'm totally buying this when I get some disposable income.

Love that a Print Version of this is available!

Man, I wish WotC would allow this sort of thing for other settings than FR too!

Thanks for clarifying this, Rip.

Ignoring the 5e stats, what sort of stuff is in this book? Are there details of individual genies? Are there genie-related plot-hooks?

Basically, is there new stuff that a non-5e player would be able use?

Holy cow, can't believe this available to buy in PDF+POD, definitely need to add this to the collection of 5E material I own in print!

Good question! One I wouldn't mind seeing an answer to myself.

The non-5e material is limited. This is primarily a bestiary of genies, and 5e stats take up the majority of the page count. Each genie has approximately three paragraphs of descriptive text. There are sidebars on gen, true genies, and conjuring tasked genies. I don't have my 2nd Edition materials in front of me, but I believe most of this can be found in the Al-Qadim books/sets.
