[Adventure] The Beacon at Enon-Tor

Post by Big Mac » Wed Jun 25, 2014 10:07 am

The review of Imagine Magazine Issue 1 at PelinoreRevived mentions The Beacon at Enon-Tor (an adventure later retconned into Pelinore):
Imagine Magazine Issue 1 article at PelinoreRevied wrote:The Beacon at Enon-Tor
A beginners' introductory Basic D&D mini-module for 4-7 1st level characters, by Mike Brunton.

Without giving too much away about the content or plot of this adventure, the action concerns the exploration of a wizard's laboratory near the town of Borth. We don't find out until issue 25 of Imagine Magazine that Borth is located in Pelinore. Nevertheless, the adventure works most splendidly as a stand alone. A conversion for made for Castles and Crusades game can be found at:

I had a look at the conversion and it mentioned White Dwarf!:
C&C conversion of The Beacon at Enon-Tor wrote:This module originally appeared in White Dwarf magazine way back in the days when White Dwarf was still providing support for the D&D™ and AD&D™ systems.
Does that mean that the Pelinore designers were working on White Dwarf content before Imagine Magazine was set up?

Could there be some other articles by them, in White Dwarf, that could be shoehorned into Pelinore? Or could there be something about The Beacon at Enon-Tor in White Dwarf that was not mentioned in Imagine Magazine?

I think the reference to White Dwarf is an error. Staffers from TSR UK Ltd did, indeed, work on WD before Imagine launched (Don Turnbull, for example) and some joined after leaving Imagine (Paul Cockburn, Graeme Davis et al). To my knowledge, there is no Pelinore specific material in WD, although there are some adventures that could just as easily be placed in Pelinore as they could in any other fantasy setting :)

I don't really know who these guys are yet. Are you going to have a list of Imagine staff up on PelinoreRevived website, at some point?

Sounds interesting. Is there a list anywhere that shows what the Pelinore designers did on White Dwarf and or other magazines?

Perhaps your PelinoreRevived page could have some sort of guide to the best non Pelinore adventures to raid from.

When I review the articles in each issue of IMAGINE, I will list the credited contributors. It would be an easy matter to create an index of articles by contributor also.

That's no small task, given that WD featured several adventures per issue and there are up to 90 - 100 issues worth of content before WD became porn for space marine fans. Perhaps I could feature some conversion notes for some of my favourites, such as the Lichway from WD9.

Sounds great. I'm looking forward to seeing some content going back up on PelinoreRevived.

I was thinking specifically of adventures written by the Pelinore designers, before they worked on Imagine. Would that cut the number down from hundreds to a more manageable number?

I just had a quick scan through the contents pages of my WD collection and it would seem that none of the IMAGINE regulars contributed scenarios to WD before working on Imagine, although Don Turnbull and Graeme Davis seem to have contributed quite a bit with general articles.

What do you estimate "quite a bit" to be? Are you talking tens or hundreds of articles?
