History of the Nentir Vale

Post by Zeromaru X » Sun Sep 18, 2016 3:08 am

MODERATOR NOTE (by Big Mac): Split from the: A Nentir Vale Gazetteer topic.

Here is the first "Gazetteer". It contains only history. I separate it from the "player Gazetteer" because there 99 pages of just history :/ Enjoy.

This is amazing! 99 pages? Where did this come from? It's magic!

Almost all is from dragon and dungeon magazines, although some assorted books were used as well. I had to do a lot of reading xD

After I finished reading all the novels, I've done an important update to the history document. There it is:

You were already on my "I would buy this person a drink" list, for making this, so I'll have to add you onto my "...plus a packet of crisps or peanuts" list. ;)

This is a major must have for anyone interested in Nentir Vale and Nerath!

I've made a new update to the document. Mostly details about the creation and the Dawn War.

I wonder if Argentmantle would be able to help with this, like he did with the Hollow World: Kogolor Fan Guide.

I've made another important update to the history document (I'm tempted to call it the Grand History of the Nentir Vale, xD). Mostly about the creation age and the Dawn War, but there are also a few updates and new entries here and there. Here is the link:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B2mLfp ... sp=sharing

I'm tempted to create a document focusing only in the Dawn War, as well. Some sort of mythic story, maybe a treatise of how current sages and priest narrate the war.

Found a reference to Planescape in Draconomicon Metallic Dragons. It seems that after the events of Die! Vecna, Die!, a few metallic dragons formed a society of portal keepers to avoid something like Vecna did in the future.

Also, updated with the story of Glasya (Asmodeus' daughter and current Lady of the Six).

Just when I though I had finished this, I learn about the Primordial Blots (monsters depicted in "The Plane Below: Secrets of the Elemental Chaos"). Even after having started to play 4e like ten years ago, the setting never fails to surprise me and show new stuff (5e should learn about this).

Expect an update soon, anyways.

Version 5.5 is up. Nothing new, just lore on abominations and prototype worlds that never came to be...

I'm only noting this because it confused me, but your entry for the Last Battle of the Spiral Tower cites "PHP" page 171, and I spent a few minutes checking your list of abbreviations trying to figure out what PHP stood for before I realized it was meant to read PHB. This might have been obvious to everyone who wasn't me.

Thanks! I will check the document in a moment. And this gives me an excuse for a few updates I've been compiling (yes, there is still a lot of material out there).

Updates:

Version 5.5: Expanded info on the creation and the Dawn War, and more info about the Dawn Age, as well as
a LOT of stuff of the empires of Arkhosia, Bael Turath and Nerath from the “Power” books, the Adventurer’s Vault 2, Secrets of the Elemental Chaos and Mordekainen’s Magnificent Emporium.

Version 6: Stuff from Dungeon Delve (sourcebook), the Great Modron March and the modron war against the Abyssal Plague, as well as some minor corrections and arrangements to the order of the timeline.

You never cease to impress me. I was commenting to Big Mac earlier today how I wish I had 1/10th of your Nentir Vale knowledge. Thanks for sharing it with the community!

This is soooooo awesome! Thanks for compiling it all. The reason I found it is that I am embarking on my own Nentir Vale pet project.

I am endeavoring to create a corsslinked and cross-referenced encyclopedia of the Nentir Vale. So, not as much a history as a repository of all things Nentir. Of course it will also have historical notes in it, but that isn't quite the focus.

I have a complete collection of Nentir Vale products, including all magazines and all encounters seasons that took place in the vale, so I hope I can do it justice.

I was going to compile the encyclopedia by reading the items in the order they were released. Should I start a let's the Nentir Vale thread? Would anyone here be interested in that?

I would, certainly. And any help is appreciated. As you can surmise, I have no read all the 4e sources and I have slip some stuff (like the Shadowhaunt stuff I wasn't aware of until you pointed me out). So, yes please. I'm sure Tim will also interested in this, as well.
