Hordelands Region Map
It's a bit small, but does suffice.

I really prefer hi-res maps these days.

Is that a mistake then, Adam?

I might send MT a message and see if he has a higher resolution version of the map.

That is a beautiful map; very in keeping with the style set in 3E Realms; is Markus Taylor the cartographer for the Realms stuff? (Seems to me his name sounds familiar, but I don't think he was their cartographer. I might be confusing him with Robert Lazaretti.)

I really would like to do some of those non-hex maps for Mystara, but I never seem to find the time or a good way of going about it...

Just looked him up. I guess he's just a fan doing this stuff; really amazing work. His deviantart site has a lot more, including some 3E Realms style maps of Kara-Tur!

I don't think that Mark Taylor, who goes by Markustay on Candlekeep, has actually done any professional work for D&D, though his work imo, is better than many of the "professionals." He posts quite often on Candlekeep and if you want to contact him, I'm sure that would be the best place to do so.

There are a ton of beautiful maps archived on Candlekeep, some canon and others more homebrew than anything. In one of MT's maps he even brought the rare settings of Malatra and Mahasarpa together which i posted a link to here.

Please do. While you are at it, please send him a link to this thread, let him know that we are interested in his mapping work and invite him over to our forum for The Horde.

In this case, yes. You can't read the key, so you can't use the map. Sorry I wasn't clear, TAD.

I think low res-maps can be useful too (as they are quick to download and good to use as thumbnails. But you kind of need a map with less detail, rather than a map that has unreadable detail.

I found a totally different map (independently) that had been posted at Candlekeep, but subsequently removed. I didn't realise this was also by Markustay. Anyhoo, he just got back to me and pointed me at his Hordelands map (which is bigger than the one at the start of this thread).

Wow that is a much better version. I recognize some really obscure locations on it too, which shows just how much research he put into it.

Indeed, I hope we can make him sneak over to this site. Markustays maps are great, and he puts an enormous amount of work into them. I just wish he decided to make a version of the old (pre-shrinking) maps of Faerun too.

And he says it is a "Just the newest iteration" so it might get replaced by an even more detailed version, later on.

Well, we did just build a gingerbread house for The Horde, so I hope we can tempt Markustays and a few other Horde experts into it.
