I think it would be cool if you created a thread for the player races of Kulan and linked the post assocaiated with it to it's entry in this thread.

At some point, I plan to do something like that. I wasn't sure if I was going to create a single thread or multiple threads — one for each continent.

● Scarlet Brotherhood (maybe, but unlikely)
● Striders of Fharlanghn [Striders of the Dawn] *
● Witchwardens
● Zelkarune's Horns
* Already done.
† Are all mercantile houses for the Lands of Harqual; they are not considered true nobility. House Vanderboren isn't listed due to the fact that it is considered to be on its last legs. The Vanderborens of Cauldron are either all dead or paupers. Todd Vanderboren was transformed into a demon lord during my Shackled City campaign, and he/it now rules Occipitus. Its new name for itself is Dämos, The Rat Fiend. The Vanderboren NPCs of Sasserine will likely have a different family name. House Arabani doesn't exist in my homebrew since its leader claims to be of drow descent. That house will be replaced by a homebrewed creation.

Kanpur
● Colleges of the Old Lore
● Corellon's Arrows (maybe)

Planar
● Church of the Whirling Fury

World Bible | Setting Bible?

I am curious Knightfall, do you have a setting bible? If so how do you have it organized? And would ever consider porting over here as a thread?

I have two documents that, together, could be considered a 'setting bible' for Harqual — the Gazetteer of Harqual and the Mythology & History of Harqual. Other than that, the only thing that comes close are the continent/region introductions on my main 'World of Kulan Thread'.

Those introductions are also posted on my Walk the Road wiki...

World of Kulan

I've never considered putting together a true setting bible; I like to tinker with Kulan way too much. Plus, the size of the world doesn't lend itself to such a document for the entire world. I could see one for Harqual, maybe. What would be the most important information to include in such a document?

Some new thread ideas I'm considering...

Shackled City Adventure Path
This thread would include all the modifications I made to the SCAP for the Lands of Harqual. This would include changed stats blocks, modified locales, and campaign-specific maps.

Monster Encounter Tables
The tables would be done more like the old 2e encounter tables. Monsters would be common, uncommon, or rare. Very rare might be included in the process, but I'm not entirely sure at this point.

Opinions?

QUERY: If I was to create world bible for Kulan, what would need to be in it?

Also, I'm not sure if I can create a world bible for the whole world without it bogging me down. Part of me feels I should make a setting bible for each continent/region.

I agree with you - in a world of this size I think an entire "world bible" might be overwhelming. I'd go with one per region of interest.

This may betray my Mystaran background, but something like the Hollow World DM's Guide makes for a very good, high level "setting bible." I did something similar for my Mystara 2300 BC setting. You can check that out here, and perhaps glean some formatting ideas and such.

Yes. And even a setting bible for, say, all of Kanpur would be next to impossible. Harqual, the Fallenlands, Janardûn, and Triadora could all have their own setting bible. As could the Islands of the Frozen North, Merria, Ryaith, Isles of Valossa, and the Wakuna Islands. However, of those, I only have a solid vision of Valossa.

Ryaith would not be able to be done until both Janardûn and the Eastern Lands of Kanpur are finished first. In fact, one could say that Ryaith is a subsetting of both regions. The Vol Isles would also be a subsetting that bridges the gap between the southeastern lands of Kanpur with Triadora. Gwyrdhyn is a subsetting of the northwestern lands of Kanpur.

Thanks for the link. That looks very interesting.

Part of me thinks that a format similar to the Poor Wizard's Almanacs might be a way to go. Although, I'd like to include a bit more detail.

I don't know much about setting bibles, but this is a brilliant resource. I intend to follow the format of it to make a setting bible for Sarûnia eventually.

Hmm, while that looks interesting, I don't think its a format I could follow. I wouldn't have enough named characters per continent/region to make it useful for me, personally. It would be more for creating a campaign bible. So, I could see it working for my Companions story hour based on my old 2e campaign. Hmm, something to consider.

The 3e Order of the Silver Hand Campaign (2006-2007)

Campaign Begins
This campaign is now a go!

It started officially on February 25th, 2006. At the start, I had five regular players, and one semi-regular guest player. The original PCs include a female dragontouched sorcerer, a female half-elf rogue, a male hill dwarf expert/fighter (Toryn), a male human exalted druid, and a male rakasta.

The exalted druid died fairly quickly, while the player playing the rakasta decided to change his PC to a dragontouched paladin. The exalted druid's player created a new PC, a male human avenger of Bast. A new player came into the game with a male silver elf bard (Meryn) and the game seemed to be on the right track. However, the bard's player had to move back to Calgary. (Nuts!)

Around the same time, the player playing the dragontouched sorcerer decided she wanted to play something else. I allowed her to roll up a female silver elf scout. And then the dragontouched paladin's player decided to change his PC once again. I allowed him to roll up a male human cleric of Jalivier (the Pastor). He now seems content with his PC (knock on wood).

The game took a break for several weeks, while the avenger's player was away. When he came back, both he and the scout's player dropped out of the game to create their own D&D gaming group. (They're married.) It was big blow to the group, but I refuse to let the game die. I've recruited a new player, that I already know, and he is going to be playing a male human wizard.

The game moved to Thursdays from 8pm to Midnight (or even 1am). At this point, the group incuded the following characters...

Constance Don'ana Romanus: Half-Elf, Rogue.
The Pastor: Human, Cleric.
Toryn Stonecutter: Hill Dwarf, Expert/Fighter.
Unnamed PC: Human, Wizard.

The PCs were all around 6th-level, and are about to venture into the final story arc of "Flood Season", the second adventure in the Shackled City Adventure Path. While I'd like to have another player join the group, I'm going to make sure I can keep the current player in the group.

Campaign Update
Sunday, August 27th, 2006
It's been a while since I updated this page. Here's what's happening to these steadfast adventurers. The Pastor, also known as Argo Flameheart, has become a radiant servant while Toryn Stonecutter continues to advance as a expert/fighter. He's become the default tank of the group, although Argo can deal out the damage as well. Constance's player quit, so she disappeared back to her homeland. And the previously unnamed wizard, known as Hezekiah Grofus, has become a stalwart party mage. His magic is subtle and ingenoius, which has save the PCs several times. With only three players, I've been allowing Argo's player to run a second NPC character, as a temporary cohort. Arn Myddion was a former Alleybasher who turned towards the light, so to speak. We've been surviving with only 3 players for several weeks but we'll be getting a old friend back. Meryn Moonshadow is due to make his return to the group, as his player is moving back to Edmonton.

The PCs are all around 9th to 10th-level, and have stepped away from the SCAP to do a bit of sidetreking and we're having lots of fun. The PCs have just finished visiting both Kul Moren and the City of Mor's End. Their next goal is to search out a giant fortress and take on its denizens, if they can. After that I think they'll be heading back to Cauldron City for a bit, before heading off towards Sumdall, Eversink, and, finally, Avion City. They'll be walking into Harqual's most wartorn lands if they go inthat route. And what about the SCAP, you say? Well, there is always the Stormblades to "protect" the citizens of the Dominion of Cauldron. :-)

Campaign Update
Sunday, September 24th, 2006
This campaign has now completely deviated from the SCAP and the players are charting their own course through the Lands og Harqual. It has been challenging, but everyone seems to be having fun. The PCs got as far as the City of Pretensa, in Izmer, on their journey west to Fortress Mountain and then the western lands. They helped eliminate a sect of the evil cult known as the Dark Reborn, under the city, and participated in the Scarecrow Festival. The head cultist, named Lazzaro, was captured and an evil lizardfolk druid escaped. Eventually, Lazzaro made his escape, as well, even while under the effects of a mark of justice spell and a quest spell, placed on him by Argo.

The PCs wind walked to the Town of Haulia to pass a message on for the Prince of Pretensa and then wind walked to Fortress Mountain. There they are to face their toughest challenge yet, in the Crumbling Halls of the Frost Giant Jarl. The group has, finally, decided on a name for their adventuring group, and the campaign's name has changed to reflect this name, The Order of the Silver Hand.

Campaign Update
Thursday, November, 9th, 2006
Okay, it's been a while since I updated this page.

The players just finished the Crumbling Halls of the Frost Giant Jarl, a few sessions ago. (I modified the module quite a bit, so some of the module's opponents became allies, while others were replaced with slightly tougher opponents.) The PCs made short work of The Nameless Thing and Londra (who I made the leaders). They took out more giants than you could count on two hands including a winter werewolf frost giant, named Hoarfrost, a frost giant mauler (D&D Frostburn), and the leader of the ogres, Harashk.

They did find allies amongst the guardians of the Crumbling Hall. A nervous winter wolf, named Icetooth, saw the benefits of surrendering to them, and was swayed by Argo's words. He gave them lots of information and told them that the cook, Grunhilde, would likely help them. (The PCs let him go, for his cooperation.) Grunhilde was the lover of Gungir, before her evil brother, Legeröd, defeated the frost giant hero, and imprisoned him beyond a pair of giant-sized double doors, which led into a demiplane known as the Plane of Graves.

The PCs freed Grunhilde, defeated all that opposed them, swayed several frost giants to surrender, and freed Gungir from the bonds of the magical curse placed on him. (The curse turned him into an undead creature, so the PCs freed him by destroying his undead corpse.) Then the PCs quickly returned to Cauldron City, using a word of recall spell. They brought four frost giants with them including Grunhilde.

The other three giants names are Angö, Müngg, and Shötte. Angö and Müngg traveled to the Verdalf Forest with Grunhilde, although Müngg betrayed them, along the way, and then ran off. Shötte has attached himself to the party, acting as a porter and backup combatant. He has traveld with the Order of the Silver Hand to the Demonskar to find out what happened to the Stormblades and Alek Tercival, who have all gone missing. The Stormblades went missing trying to find Alek. The PCs had just entered Vaprak's Voice at the end of last game. (Shötte stayed above ground to protect the Order's hirelings and pack animals.)

At this point, the Order of the Silver Hand includes the following characters...

Toryn Stonecutter: High Dwarf Male, Expert3, Fighter10
Argo Flameheart: Human Male, Cleric6, Radiant Servant6, Warpriest1
Meryn Moonshadow: Silver Elf Male, Bard11 (part-time player)
Hezekiah Grofus: Human Male, Wizard13
Amaryllis Greenbottle: Lightfoot Halfling Female, Rogue3, Dragon Shaman8 (Argo's cohort)
Shötte: Frost Giant Male, Ftr1 (NPC)

Campaign Update
Sunday, February 11th, 2007
Here's the latest on this campaign.

The Order's first foray into Vaprak's Voice went fairly smoothly, as the Stormblades had already gone through the place. Still the PCs had to deal with Dugobras, the fire giant, and the three half-fey hags. Once they gained access to the Starry Mirror the found themselves trapped in the dimensional plane. Hezekiah and Argo worked together to figure out the method for getting out and they were able to guide everyone out to safety.

Once on the other side, they found Alek's dead body in the spell weaver vault, but no sign of the Stormblades. They had a pitched battle with two canisphinxes (D&D Sandstorm) before leaving the vault with Alek's body. They stopped off in a small town, at the edge of the desert, before heading back to Cauldron City, far to the north. (They wind walked, I believe.)

After this the Order spent some time in Cauldron, Mor's End, and Pretensa, as well as the City-State of Caloric. Argo Flameheart met the High Lightservant of Caloric, and had to give a detailed report of the Order's membership and activities. This man, named Eddanar Westergard, also promted Argo to be the head of the temple in Cauldron City incluidng the title of Lightservant. The High Lightservant also reassigned Arn Myddion to Caloric and several acolytes to Cauldron City including a young aasimar named Jefferie Knobel.

After this, the Order rescued the Stormblades from Occipitus, a layer of the Abyss, after traveling to the planar city known as Sigil, City of Doors. It was there that a mysterious servant of Boccob, known as the Eyebrarian, The Eye of Boccob told them how to reach Occipitus safely. After returning home to the Material Plane they delivered the remaining Stormblades to their respective families, which included taking an old adventuring companion of Toryn's, named Ionesco Valdeshar, home to Stonn City, which the swashbuckler didn't like very much.

During their trip back to Cauldron City, the Order stopped at the temple city, northeast of the Duchy of Minar, called The Light of Truth. There they met with the High Lightservant of the Eastern Shores, a woman named Robyn Zaccal. They had discovered a destroyed caravan, the previous day, meant to reach The Light of Truth, and delivered its remaining cargo, including a powerful staff, to the High Lightservant. She granted each PC a boon for their honesty and integrity. During their time in the Town of Praxis, they picked up another "follower", a young half-elf named Freadre Winddusk.

Since returning to Cauldron, the PCs have been drawn back into the events of the SCAP. They dealt with the assassins sent by Ike Iverson, of the Cathedral of Wee Jas, and traced the assassins back to him. They wiped out his waiting hord and discovered the soulcage hanging in the cathedral. Argo was annoyed that these supposed priests of Wee Jas were summoning demons to the Material Plane and he and Toryn Stonecutter devised a plan, which sent the Cathedral of Wee Jas crashing down upon itself. (Stone shape and earthquake.)

Argo was arrested and taken to the Town Hall where he was asked what the hell he was thiniing, doing such a thing. Argo explained that he had been justified since the supposed priests of Wee Jas were actually worshiping the Sword Gods and the evil undead dragon god known as Falazure. Plus, he insisted that he be allowed to cast true seeing on the magistate before agreeing to be judged by him.

The magistate, a man named Jacob Taskerhill, agreed much to Argo's surprise, but insisted that it be done in private chambers, and that if Argo used the spell afterward, in the main hall, then he was bound by the law not to reveal what he saw to anyone. Argo agreed and discovered that Lord Orbius Vhalantru was a beholder. However, he couldn't tell anyone. Little did he know that his cohort, Amaryllis Greenbottle, had been hiding in the hall. She had sensed his shock when he saw Orbius's true form, and grilled him about it later. He told her but insisted she not to tell anyone.

The Order was forced to pay a fine for destruction of private property, but no jail time was levied against them. Magistrate Taskerhill's ruling was hardly a punishment at all and many believe he did this to pay the Order back for saving his granddaughter from certain death in the Abyss.

The Order then began the process of piecing together all the information they had on the soulcages, the Cagewrights, and their plans. They discovered that Dugobras had built the soulcage they acquired from the Cathedral of Wee Jas, and that these Cagewrights were planning to open a portal to Carceri. More research led them to discover that the former demon lord master of Occipitus, Adimarchus, is currently banished to Carceri. Argo also remembers that Hiisi, Lord of Darkness is also imprisioned on Carceri.

The PCs are currently still dealing with the events of Secrets of the Soul Pillars and Lords of Oblivion. They haven't yet traveled to the Ruins of Karran-Kural, but have dealt with the Last Laugh Thieves in The Brass Trumpet. They also had to deal with several assassination attempts on their lives including a recent attack on the Temple of the Cat by a strike force of tabaxi, from the west. The group has a new member, a male human barbarian/ranger named Karr'Toomba. They are currently embroiled in a free-for-all melee in House Rhiavadi.

More to come later...
