Spell cards & Tokens

Post by shesheyan »

WotC will release Spell Deck for casters and token sets for each class.

Spell cards are cool if you are into that. But what are the tokens for?

It looks to me as though these are being put out by some entity called "Gale Force Nine". I don't think WotC are making these.

Gale Force Nine appears to be the company WotC works with to make miniatures and other prop-type items.

Not sure, but I was thinking tokens were things that you put next to your miniatures to indicate that they were stunned, bloodied or whatnot. OTOH, these tokens seem to be linked to the classes. They could even just be ersatz miniatures corresponding to each class/race combo...

That's good to know. I was wondering if someone was just going to create their own based on what they see in the PHB once they got it!

Thank you for that !
Won't buy anything as they are not necessary to game play. Which is a relief !
Module specific DM screen... wow that's over the top merchandising.

Ya, I doubt I'll actually buy any of this stuff. *If* I were to get something it would certainly be spell cards. I think those can be great player aids for newer (and even not-so-newer) players.

You'd simply have your deck of "spells known", and pull out the ones prepared to have them with your character sheet. (So you can prepare 7 spells? Excellent, pick out 7 cards.)

Were decided to use the spell cards.
As a GM I really love them for NPCs.
Its a new edition and we are still learning how each spell works.
Avoids looking at the PHB all the time.

We're just using index cards with our spells written on them, for now. I still haven't decided on purchasing any decks or not.

As a heads up (to everyone), if you are going to get any of these spell card sets, be sure that the package has "Version 2" printed next to the UPC bar and product code.

This run has apparently fixed a number of concerns that people had;
- included a couple of missing spells,
- rounded the corners of the cards,
- included a C mark to indicate concentration.

I may just end grabbing a deck or two.

They may not be out in stores quite yet here in Canada. I'm not sure. If not, they should be very soon.

You could see if you could return them and hope for the best.

I picked up the arcane spell cards pack yesterday. Man, there's a lot a cards in there! All the spells for Wizards, Sorcerers, AND Warlocks.

They have a glossy finish and feel good and thick. Apparently, the glossy coating allows you to use dry erase markers on them. I'll get to actually use them in a game this Friday
