Unearthed Arcana

Plane Shift
* Goblins and Vampires are similar to the versions of those races in Plane Shift: Zendikar, but are treated as separate races here. (A sidebar gives information about treating each world's version as a separate subrace.)
** Merfolk have the same traits as Zendikar merfolk, but these two subraces are new to Ixalan.

Have any other races been added? Are there any races that you particularly miss seeing a conversion of?

Feel free to add more in the thread.

You're missing the Tiefling from the PHB, and the Elf (Eladrin) that is in the DMG. And also, all the monster races in Volo's that can be used as pcs (such as orcs and kobolds).

As for your question, maybe the hamadryads from 4e. But right know, those books covered so much of 4e stuff, that between the books and Unearthed Arcanas I don't need a new race right now.

If Goliath is in both Volo's and the Elemental Evil (I assume this is a section of Princes of the Apocalypse which is aimed at players, or maybe a web enhancement; if the latter, that probably answers why they repeated it in the latest book), are they the same? If not, how do they differ? Which is closer to the original 3E Goliath?

While I only have a rumor-based knowledge of 4E, two races in it which seemed really cool, and have not yet appeared in 5E, are Devas and Shardminds. I'll definitely be excited when/if those make the jump.

Havard: By official sources, I assume that you're ruling out the "Unearthed Arcana" series for now, since those are, by definition, strictly playtest materials?

(If you're not ruling them out, add Changeling, Shifter, Warforged, Minotaur (Krynn), Infernal and Abyssal Tieflings, and Revenant to your list.)

The Elemental Evil Player's Companion is indeed a free web enhancement.

There is also an older version of Aasimar in the DMG in addition to the Volo's Guide version. Incidentally, I rather like the DMG one better.

I wonder: which one is official for WotC, if any?

The way Aasimar was presented in the DMG, that was an example of how to create a race. I bet the official version is in Volo's Guide.

I developed the Eladrin from the DMG example, and I like my version just fine. I haven't seen any official Eladrin, so I rely on my own version... unless WotC released an updated PHB that features Eladrin. :?

As for the Elemental Evil & Volo's Guide Goliath - I haven't looked too closely at both versions for a side-by-side, but I believe they are identical.

I also recall reading that UA material is strictly for play-testing, and it is not considered official.

They may only be Quazi official But there is a Kaledesh and Inistrad (From magic the gathering) players companion that has several races and variants.

That depends on who published it, since M:tG is also Wizard property.

I don't think they're considered official races, ad example for organized play like AL

I would consider them in the same category as the Unearhed Arcana series.

In any case, since I started the thread, I think that we could still list both the MtG Races and the Unearthed Arcana Races in this thread, though I probably won't include them in the Original Post when I revise the list. Or if there is space, I could make them into a second list below the rest.

If someone wants to create a list of fan created races or 3rd party races, those belong in a separate thread however.

YMMV :)

Updated the list in the original post with input from the posts so far.

I also added all the races from Volo's Guide to Monsters.

Anything else I have missed so far? :)

Not that I am aware of, but you do have Volo's Guide to Monsters listed twice in your original post. The first time without the monstrous PCs, and the second with.

LOL

That does seem a bit excessive! I have now removed the redundant list. :)

I'm not missing them. ;)

I had a table here somewhere for tiefling appearances. I allow tiefling players to choose or randomly roll their tiefling's appearance, but aside from the possibility of having wings and therefore the ability to fly, it changes little in the tiefling's abilities.

Oh, and under Elemental Evil, "Aarakocra" is misspelled.

Two new unearthed arcana races this month. A new version of the eladrin sub-race, as well as the gith race, that includes both githzerai and githyanki.

This week's UA has more tiefling options, tied to the various Lords of Hell.

Thanks for the heads up, Timemrick! :D

Just in time, since my players now have to go to the Abyss to rescue their tiefling warlock from Asmodeus!
