Unearthed Arcana: Of Ships and the Sea (survey)

Post by Big Mac » Fri Dec 07, 2018 5:59 pm

Wizards of the Coast have a page up called SURVEY: OF SHIPS AND THE SEA. They are asking for feedback on the Unearthed Arcana: Of Ships and the Sea article.

Go take the survey (it's going to be live for three weeks from the 27th of November) but come back and tell us what you think of Unearthed Arcana: Of Ships and the Sea.

Do you like the system for vehicles?

Do you think that combat involving PCs and vehicles is going to work well?

Do you think it will stack well with other rules?

I think these rules will work well with existing rules.

I'll have to examine the rules closer than my initial read-through to give specifics, but overall, I believe these rules are fine. :)

I posted a capsule review to my blog shortly after the article dropped. The short version is I think these rules hit just about the right level of abstraction vs. detail that fits the 5E rules set, and I will almost certainly be using them (or whatever iteration is current at the time) when and if I run a 5E Freeport campaign. The downtime activities are a particularly nice touch, which will allow more focus on actually owning and operating the ship without drowning in minutiae.

Anyone else got spelljammer vibes from this UA? I can't seem to comprehend why a ship would have mental stats, otherwise.
Have a look at my Dark Sun 5e Reconstruction or Planescape 5e Belief System
