New Young Dragon mini’s wrong size!

Post by Coronoides » Mon May 13, 2019 8:43 am

I’ve been hanging out for the release of the new D&D young dragon miniatures. My FLGS finally had them today and they are all the wrong Size! Young dragons are Large in the Monster Manual. The new ‘young dragons’ look to big and sure enough come with Huge scale bases. Not a problem if you want Huge Adult dragons but I really wanted Large Young dragons for playtesting my [Ostoria] setting and Council of Wryms conversion.
Anyway, I thought I’d better let folks inclined to order online know.

I much prefer the scale of 1e dragons, honestly. I find dragons 2e & onwards to be grossly oversized. Mostly as in "yeah, your fighter is going to be about as effective against this red dragon as the japanese military is against Godzilla, stats be damned."

That said, there are a number of dragon models offered by Reaper that might be to your scale, and many are in the BONES line so thus made of plastic and cheaper. You'll have to do some painting, though.

Yeh I have their Shadow Dragon which is maybe a smidge to big but will paint up into a pretty good young Silver. Their young fire dragon and young green dragon look like they might also be about the right size but I have only seen these online.

Bones also have a selection of chromatic wrymlings which would be good for low level Council of Wryms but too small for Ostoria.
