I just came across this map and noticed it mentions Taladas and Selasia(?).

Anyone know when the name Taladas first appeared? Does it predate the Time of the Dragon boxed set?

Also, what is this map from?

The map is from the Tales of the Lance boxed set.

Taladas is first mentioned in the Time of the Dragon boxed set, which predates TotL.

Thanks Trampas! :)

I began to wonder if manybe Weis/Hickman had planted some seeds for Taladas, even if they were not the ones to finally develop that setting.

Tales of the Lance was the 2nd editionification of DragonLance, wasn't it?

Indeed.

And to be quite honestly I didn't particularly liked it. A lot of the flavor from the 1st ed Dragonlance Adventures tome and the Dragonlance 2nd edition Monstrous Compendium pack was toned down/lost...especially classes, I really felt they missed the mark there.

Shame as I really love the setting.

The shipper they displayed at my (then) friendly local game store (Laurana with the lance, from Elmore's Death of Sturm painting) was the first thing that caught my eye, and I loved the boxed set cover art as well. I, too, thought the contents were somehow... lacking... a lot of the flavor of the DL Adventures hardback and the feel of many of the novels that had come out since. Never could quite put my finger on what it was that was missing....

I think we have a thread here somewhere explaining what happened to Tales of the Lance. There are parts of that boxed set that I really love, but other decisions I simply disagree with. Directly contradicting the core novels and previously established material is just a bad idea. But I like the scope of the boxed set, the rules for the most part and the detail given to all the different regions. Knights of Solamnia could probably have been handled better rules wise, but they were always confusing.
