Strong Museum of Play - DND Exhibit

Post by Birchbeer » Sun Oct 15, 2017 12:54 am

Hey folks, went to Rochester this weekend and took some pics of the DND exhibit there. Even saw an adventure I never heard of before ("Let There be Dragons") for original DND. Any one ever seen this adventure before. In the album below I have screen shots of the documents on display. I think there may be more in their archives, but I didn't have time to go as I was with my kids. :(

I have just the one image below, more in the album for folks who want to see the other items on display. :)

Interesting Birchbeer.

I know there are a few of these proto-D&D games that have surfaced over the last couple of years. One document called Beyond This Point There Be Dragons (also known as the Daluhn Document). Another version is often referred to as the Guidon Draft.

Not sure if this is yet another version, or actually refers to one of the drafts mentioned above.

Very interesting! Do you know if these are items in the posession of Jon Peterson (author of Playing at The World) that are on display?

Havard,

Yes, they are. One of my pics has him credited (check the label on the right hand side below):

Very interesting. I can't see any information about Let There be Dragons online. It looks like nobody has ever published a copy of this.

The documents referenced in my photo is definitely the Dalluhn Manuscript. I see a reference here on Peterson's blog.

Ahh, that makes sense then.

There are many different theories on who wrote this document. There is also speculation that the illustrations could be by Dave Arneson.

Big Mac: This game was published, but it was revised several times after that and when the final version came out, it was called Dungeons & Dragons. :)
