[Modern AGE] Rise of the Kinorii Campaign

Post by shesheyan » Mon Sep 10, 2018 7:56 pm

My next campaign project will use Modern AGE. It will be an alternate history post-apocalyptic setting. The world as we know it was destroyed on September 11th, 2001 but not by the usual suspects. Its a reboot of a campaign I did with d20 Modern, d20 Post-Apoc and d20 Future books. I'm keeping the same arch-enemies.

WHAT HAPPENED
On September 11, 2001 when the events started everyone suspected the usual culprits. But in fact something much larger and sinister had been prepared for that day. The Kinorii, a race of alien invaders who colonized Earth during the dinosaure era, were making a come back with a bang! After being nearly destroyed at the same time as the dinosaures, the Kinorii retreated deep under ground to find heat near natural volcanic chimneys. With time they regressed to a primitive level forgetting their former advanced technological society.

When Homo Sapiens-sapiens appeared the Kinorri followed their evolution closely. The stinky and hairy humans expanded across the Earth. The Kinorii slowly integrated human inventions into their daily lives. With the advent of the personal computer the Kinorii finally had the missing key to access the high tech knowledge of their ancestors. A plan was formulated to get rid of the humans and reclaim the surface of the Earth.

On September 11 the Kinorii released an air born biological attack in all major cities across the globe. The virus killed billions of humans within hours. It was a genocide. But as usual the plan wasn't perfect. Some humans proved to be resistant to the virus because of a latent gene which humans scientist didn't understand the function yet. Gene HGNC-01-1435 interacted with the Kinorii virus (K virus) and mutated protecting the humans who had it. Another side effect was to create psychic powers in 15% of surviving humans.

When the campaign starts the Kinorii and Humans have been at war for control of the planets since 2001. The Kinorri, because of their cold blooded biology tend to stay in hotter climates and human have retreated North of the Capricorn Tropic or below the Cancer Tropic. Unfortunately, climat change and rising temperatures are helping the Kinorii in their conquest of the American Mid-West and the West Coast.

Thank you. I have to disclose that part of this is the actual origine story of the Kinori in the d20 Menace Manual. I just loved the idea of an ancient alien race living underground when I first read it.

The picture is great. However, if you're going to say that the Kinorii have been lurking on Earth since the dinosaur age, then why not just have them be the Dinosaurs? (aka Troodon, which is already speculated as having possessed considerable intelligence, and certainly one step beyond that could have been just reptilian humanoids, with bipedal gait and binocular vision and such. Having them be aliens seems superfluous; anybody who's maintained a single society for 65,000,000 years could easily reach the level of technology that you need. The only way they need to be aliens is if they're using some resource that unquestionably doesn't and can't exist on earth, like if their ships are powered by giant plumes of glow-in-the-dark smoke or something.

This campaign is part of a larger inter-galactic setting that will be revealed to the players later down the road. That is why the Kinorii are aliens and not descendants of Dinosaurs.
