Finding the right forum for your posts

Post by Ashtagon »

This site has grown to have a large number of separate forums, so determining where best to place your posts isn't always easy. Here is a guide to help you:

Public Houses: Holder for everything that is not a campaign setting
  • The Philosopher's Stone: Site administration and welcome messages (admins only can post new threads)
    • The Tabard Inn: General chat-chat
    • The Magic Mirror: Searching for players/GMs for games, whether face-to-face, online live-chat, or forum-based play-by-post
    • The Crystal Globe: Play-by-post games are played out here. You can search for pbp players here, or in relevant campaign setting forums.
  • The Orc's Revenge: Holder for rules and industry forums (place-holder forum; no posts)
  • The Kippin' Griffin: Site admin forum. Posts here gain the attention of admin. Please keep chit-chat to a minimum.
    • The Black Pudding: Where bad posts are moved and shamed. These are publicly visible to serve as an example of what not to do.
    • The Citadel of Chaos: Secret forum for site admin and moderators only
      • The Abyss: Where extremely bad posts are moved. These are NOT publicly visible. For various reasons (eg. legal action) we may need to preserve posts that must no longer be public.
    • Project Phoenix: Another secret forum. Why so many secrets?
Campaign Worlds: Holder for everything that is a campaign setting

Useful post.

I'd cross-reference Classic D&D/BECMI and Mystara (i.e., "Mystara: a setting; for non setting-specific discussion of the related BECMI/RC rules, see the Classic D&D forum").

Regarding Thorf's Projects, it might be worth pointing out that it has become the de facto place of discussion for hex art techniques and tools.
Its subfora are about maps of the Mystara setting (Geographical Mapping), an ongoing atlas of the setting (Atlas of Mystara), and a planned database of references to Mystara source books.

I learned a lot from The Black Pudding.

Hello, I am new to the piazza.

Is it permissible to submit a post looking to do some trading? If so, is there a forum for trades or should I just post it in the appropriate setting's forum?

The Magic Mirror is probably the most appropriate section for that. The campaign setting boards should be reserved for actual games content.

Traveller is a weird one. Traveller is used to indicate a lineage of editions of rules and a setting. The two are often separate.
Classic traveller rules began as a generic rules set for science fiction.
The Imperium grew out of Mark Miller's home games as a setting supported by those rules.
Eventually, that setting became synonymus with the Traveller rules and expanded to the alien empires of Charted Space beyond the Imperium and (if you go deep) eventually to the Universe (and several pocket universes). This is the Traveller Setting.
The Traveller Rules have had numerous editions some of which did not assume the Traveller Setting. Mongoose Traveller for example published several settings not connected to the Traveller Universe.
Meanwhile, the Traveller Setting has had versions in other rules sets including GURPS and D20.

All that said rolling all the Traveller stuff, even other settings using the Traveller rules into the Traveller forum is probably fair enough given the small volume of posts.
