Shesheyan's Excellent Adventure on The Piazza

Post by shesheyan » Thu Dec 06, 2018 2:59 pm

Friends of The Piazza, time has come for me to move along.

Over the years this forum has been a great source of inspiration, ressource and help. My journey backwards into the different editions of D&D became more intense this year as I was searching for something I felt I had lost along the way. While this has been a very interesting endeavor I did not find what I was looking for. The game has changed and I have changed over the years. Looking at my activity in 2017-2018 it is clear now that I have distanced myself from the many shapes of the d20 system. I am now cured of my nostalgia. My fun now resides elsewhere.

Farewell !

These things do happen, happened and will happen to all players, but I can tell you in advance that at some point in the future you will probably feel you want to go back to these kind of games: that's the nature of the beast! At that point in time you will find other people willing to share your fun, here or somewhere else.
Until then, all the best!

Sorry to hear you have moved onto other games. I enjoyed a lot of the surveys you ran and it's been fun chatting with you over the years.

I know what you mean about distancing yourself from the various rules of the d20 system. I've kind of moved on from rules myself. (I now mostly enjoy talking to rules and see D&D rules as a "necessary evil" to run a game with.) But, in my case, as my interest in rules has gone down, my interest in campaign settings has gone up.

I hope you enjoy whatever you have replaced tabletop gaming with.

You will always welcome back here.

Sorry to see you leave Shesheyan. I always enjoyed your posts here. I hope that me disagreeing with you in a recent thread did not contribute to your decision to leave. If you decide to return to us at some point, you will be very much welcome back!

At some point, paths must diverge as interests wax and wane.

It's been a good run, reading your material here, shesheyan. I hope our paths will cross again in the future, be it here, or somewhere else.

Most of all, be well, and happy gaming, no matter the variety

I liked it too. But the temptation to read and participate (and loose precious time) responding D&D topics is just too alluring. I will now only discuss the non-D&D games on non-D&D forums. You know my handle. See you around ;)

No. I've been thinking about saying goodbye since the beginning of Fall. I spent the last three months making a big clean up in my gaming inventory and gaming schedule. My gaming room and gaming schedule have a finite size. D&D is not something I want to interact with anymore. I gave it a good run over the years but for the last two have been attracted to systems that are less heroic and more lethal. Single book RPGs with tailored rulesets and a full setting is really what I'm into now. ;)

Well, I'm on non-D&D ruleset games as well (although I sometimes use different rulesets to settings that have often been associated to D&D, such as Blackmoor, for example) and despite that I think I find the right space for discussing here without causing any inconvenience... :halo:

D&D, its various editions and settings are behind me now. I won't be revisited them using other systems.

If I want to talk Star Frontiers (or any non-D&D game), I'll go to the Star Frontiers (or any non-D&D game) forum. That is where the fans and knowledgable people about that system are. Just like experts on D&D can be found here. It's just better that way.

Anyway, thank you all for the kind words.

Farewell, for real this time!

If I ever decide that D&D is no longer for me, somebody please put me out of my misery.

I think there is space on this site for games that aren't based or inspired by the D&D/d20 rules set.

Sadly, my attempts to interact in the non-D&D sections on the Piazza over the years have been very limited if I compare with other forum dedicated the same games. I just spent a year (nov 2017- nov 2018) on The Piazza writing about science-fiction games I like and got very few replies. I get very good interactions for the same games elsewhere. These numbers have led me to concluded that The Piazza is in fact purely D&D (d20) centered despite the wished of the administrator to open up to other non-D&D RPGs. It's just the way it is.
