[Miniatures] [DIY] Making your own bases

Post by Havard » Thu Jun 21, 2018 4:44 pm

Anyone have experience making your own bases for minis? Including large bases for larger minis?

I found a video here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s7CiC-_5Ebc

This kid uses beer cards which is brilliant.

In this video I liked the idea of using washers* glued to cardstock to make the bases a bit heavier:

Have you heard it pronounced "warshers" (with a generous Midwestern twang) yet?

Haha, that is a cool tidbit for me since I am interested in languages. I did visit the Midwest some years ago, but I guess we didn't discuss tools or ironware at the time!

We did get to play some games though! :)

I do, using a variety of techniques. I have a lot of experience with it,

Did you have any questions? I’d be glad to answer them.

What material do you use for your bases? Is there anything I should think about when making bases for larger miniatures (Ogres, Giants etc)?

Other advice?

:o Heresy! I would never cut up a baseplate! They're too expensive and they already make plenty of small plates in the sizes I need. :P

ETA: Plus, I might hurt myself if I try cutting plastic like that. No blood on the LEGO, please!

That would be helpful.

What do you mean by "a variety of techniques"? Is that a lot of things that you might do to decorate one type of base...or are you talking of multiple different ways to build a base?
