This seems to have been down a couple of days.

Do Amberville, Argentmantle, and Thorf know?

Yes, the site is down. The registration lapsed, and since it wasn't in my name I can't do anything about it. The fellow who set it up vanished down a rabbit hole (gee thanks.) It's pretty much gone at this point, and I have other priorities to worry about now.

If someone else set it up and didn't renew it, you should be able to steal the URL off of him (assuming you can get it before a cybersquatter grabs it).

Domain name registrars hold on to them for a while after they've expired. The current owner let it lapse on July 14th, so it should be available again any day now.

Well Argentmantle set it up guys. So perhaps we should try getting ahold of him. He hasn't been on the Piazza for quite awhile either.

Perhaps he is on Dragon'sfoot, Google+ or Facebook. Anyway I will try to get ahold of him.

And Bruce...I think many on this Board would be willing to help fund the Stranger Skies domain name.

According to Argentmantle's profile, he has not visited The Piazza since January 2016. I hope he is OK.

If you could get money to Argentmantle, have him renew the domain and transfer it to Bruce, it would probably easier and cheaper..

At this moment, Strangerskies.com is still listed as 'taken' (taker unknown).

So is Calidar.com, Calidar.net and Calidar.org - they all look they have been taken by domain sharks for re-selling purposes :-(

Worldofcalidar.com is also taken - same story

GreatCaldera.com is available - as is other variants with .org etc.

When I looked at the WhoIs registration database, it looked like the registration of WorldofCalidar.com had run from 2013 until September 27 2016 and then expired - but the domain is not for sale yet. So I spent 10$ to backorder it if it does become available.

StrangerSkies.com does not expire until June or July 2017 I think it was, which is sorta weird. Maybe the owner did not pay for the web hotel for the site but DID prepay for the domain itself for a longer period?

Oh...nice Spellweaver. I am also worried about Argentmantle though. Real life could just be riding his ass...but we should make a concerted effort to contact him.

OH LELAND!!

That's very kind. I have no such plan for now. Sorry for being so slow responding. I've been busy of late, as you might imagine.

It would be the simplest, but he's not been responding to me for quite some time now. I noticed his lack of participation months ago, and questioned him about it. He stated he was OK, though busy with work, and that he was still interested in being involved. That said, he then dropped out of circulation entirely, not responding to voicemail either... He should be aware of the situation with the web site, but he's either unable or unwilling to respond for whatever reason. At this point, I think this is a dead issue.

Makes me leery of him being involved with Threshold to a greater degree unfortunately. He was talking about helping Alan out to help lighten his load...but if he disappears during production...

We all "disappear" into "real life"...but I try and let people know what is going on. Perhaps my biggest frustration was being in an area last year when we were trying to finish Threshold 10...and I couldn't get online!

Maybe the best way to go with this would be for Bruce to buy a domain name and then for someone with the time to grab a copy of the Stranger Skies website off of the Wayback Machine (assuming they have a full copy) and then upload it to the new website.

The website could then move forward from there (in whatever direction Bruce wants it to move in).

I don't have a copy though...

I meant grab a copy from the Wayback Machine (assuming they have it archived).

I can't get onto the Wayback Machine as my mobile internet provider has decided that it is an adult site and blocked me.

There are several URLs in this topic, but I can't tell which one is the exact URL of the Stranger Skies website. Can somebody point out the exact URL that we need to salvage?

Some was archived: https://web.archive.org/web/20160701000 ... rskies.com
but the graphic does not seem as it was and I cannot access the forum or internal pages beyond the front.
The last working main page seems to be the one of August 9th, 2016, but I do not know if there is a full archive of the site and forums...

It was hosted by WordPress. If he could no longer afford to keep it up he could've just switched his plan to the free one, so I don't think money was the issue here.

It's a real shame he dropped off, he had some decent skills with pdf's.

The Wayback Machine isn't too good at crawling some forums. And it's usually a bit behind anyway, so it's best for rescuing fixed pages.

People sometimes get real busy with real-life stuff and loose their RPG websites before they can get back to them.

I wonder if WordPress have a copy.

Thanks for checking. I'll pass on the possibility. I'm so busy that I can't see how I could handle a web site on top of everything else, besides, technically speaking I just don't know enough to take care of even its maintenance. :/
