Current D6 System campaign run down

Post by Corsair14 »

With isolation being a thing and 5e being difficult to play over facebook video chat since it more or less is a tabletop war game instead of a role playing game with my group, I decided it would be a good idea to run Star Wars d6 as it does theater of the mind so well. Just in case anyone wants to borrow for their own campaigns.

Starts off with the characters:
Les who is a failed dark jedi with an addiction problem to spice. I picture him as Frank from Shameless but with a red lightsaber. He was an apprentice to an inquisitor(who was actually a rogue inquisitor who got hunted down). He didn't reveal his true nature until the end of the first adventure.

Skirnip- A rodian gun dealer. Surprised by our youngest player going with this one. He actually isn't bad with it and keeps the party in eating and repair money legitimately.

Tim-A Devaronian crewman who has taken the role of ship captain. He is starting to come out of his shell and RP a little
Caroline- A verpine scavenger. A very OP technical character I made for her forgetting how OP her skills are. She rolls any tech at 7D with not a single pip in any of her tech skills. But she does tend to take a lot of damage and isn't too hot with a blaster.

Intro- I started all of them as crew or passengers on an independent tramp freighter whose captain has ties to the Rebels. The begin unloading cargo and the rodian about to go discuss a weapons deal on the Yavin base right as everyone gets scrambled for the Battle of Scarif. I even had a second laptop to play the scene and the coming out of hypr space scene. The freighter captain was quickly contracted for search and rescue ops thus why he went along. This part is very theme park for the party as I am trying to get them used to the action/dice system. I had Tim working the shields, and two other running the dorsal and belly quad laser cannons to fight off enemy TIEs. They get the whole scene of the death star appearing and firing as they dive to the surface to pick up troops. Rescue a couple as well as some storm trooper prisoners who happened to be there. Another fight in space as the rebels retreat. They pick up a sense of the dark side from one of their pursuing TIEs but the copilot manages to get them into hyperspace before they take any real damage aside from their captain being killed.

Adventure 1: They end up on an Outer Rim space station 50,000 credits in debt to Garza the Hutt and their ship was destroyed by pirates. They have very little cash, and they wander around and find a trinket in the market from a curio dealer which had a strong force resonance. They buy it, find out it was from a freighter captain who was in jail and the ship was impounded by customs. Also find someone else was looking at the item and asking similar questions. I had a who fight scene prepped with timed reinforcements and so on. They bribed a customs official into just letting them into the ship to get the information, then when discovered, shot up some storm troopers, stunned the custom official, the verpine hacked the security and they stole the ship.

They managed to figure out where this ship came from and followed it back to discover it was a tropical planet covered in shallow seas(with polar ice caps) and there was a beacon on an island. Come to find out the University of Coruscant has an archeological dig at an ancient Massi temple complex. The head scientist is surprised to see them and says the ship belonged to a captain who stole a valuable artifact from the site and they hand it over with the jedi being very interested in this place. They are interrupted by a TIE Reaper with a squad of storm troopers coming out along with a TIE pilot with a red light saber. She tries to get the jedi to come along, never takes off the mask and gloats for them falling into their trap. Gunfight ensues. At one point the verpine and a storm trooper were on opposite sides of a crate alternating lifting up and shooting at the other. Verpine after 3 rounds kills that one but takes a hit from another incapacitating her. Jedi combined with fire from two of the party who spent all their force points to make incredibly powerful shots manage to injure the inquisitor and she force jumped onto the now hovering Reaper. Jedi attempts to disable it and damages the craft but not enough to stop it and it leaves. Jedi kills a wounded storm trooper with his light saber. They go into the temple, while the archeologists run away from the dark jedi and head to their ship. In the temple, the rodian makes a really good perception roll while everyone else royally flops and notices a stone no one noticed before looked loose and pulls out a red pyramid holocron. They get outside in time to see the Gallofree freighter with the scientists take off.

Adventure 2: Players think they are being followed and that there is a tracker of some sort on board and head to everyone's favorite desert planet, Tatooine. Ship gets a clean bill of health. One of the commandoes from the intro "randomly" runs into the captain who was chilling at the cantina and bugging the tavern keeper about looking for people needing work. Come to find out the rebels are planning something and their ride got taken out and they will pay the PCs to get them off planet once whatever happens happens. Captain was ok with this. and aside from the jedi purchasing a droid from some jawas and them tossing the Verpine in a bacta tank from an unregistered street doc, they are set up for the next adventure.

Players return to their ship to find a group of jawas harassing a TB-1 medical droid trying to get into the landing bay. A small fight breaks out, 2 jawas are hurt and the rest run away. The Mos Eisley Militia showed up and questioned the characters about the fight. The medical droid was showing up in advance of the rebel operation.

They were then visited by a LT of Garza the Hutt and one of his Gank mercenary enforcers. They roughed up the captain and reminded him the Hutt wanted the money.

The Rebels called the next day and they needed immediate extraction and the characters flew their freighter over and managed to destroy an AT-ST and rescue the commandos before TIE fighters arrived. Then on the scape they plotted a course to Sorocco while the gunner shot one TIE and tried to avoid getting hit by the other. Plus the Star Destroyer the TIEs arrived in closed and was an initiative roll away from hitting them with a tractor beam.

They arrived on the black sands of Sorocco and the PCs made peace with the local shaman and got paid generously by a bagman working for the rebels and informing on them to the Hutts. They still think they are being tracked despite paying a ground crew to search the ship and not detecting any kind of radiations.

They go to a bar and meet Ankor Wat the local ambassador to Garza the Hutt and his Gamorean enforcer, Smiley who has a cyber eye, chrome teeth, actual body armor, and carries a light repeating blaster as easy as most people carry pistols. Force user tries to affect mind on the Todarian to convince him to accept the small amount of money they were willing to part with and failed because his character didn't know Todarians had a high resistance to the force. They then get into a scuffle as the failed jedi tries to Inflict pain/kill on the Gamorean and incurs a extra dark side point. He only inflicts a light wound and the enforcer fights back by trying to hose down the force user with his blaster but only takes down part of the wall. Ankor manages to get control of the situation, mentions very specifically how much money the party was just paid despite what they tried to lie about and wants most of it. They pay what he asks.

It took me out of character after the session explaining how the bad guy knew how much money they had, since they were kind of mad, but it wasn't meta gaming, I actually had it written in my game notes prepping for the session. The bag boy was an informant for the huts. It did make them decide that joining the Rebels was better than going at it alone and fending off Hutt loan sharks.

Episode 3 Their Hutt case handler suggests to them to meet a contact. The contact is a friend of the cartel and has a simple spice pick up and delivery assignment. It would pay a large amount of their debt should they choose to use it that way. They agree and immediately set off to Genesia to pick up the spice from a warehouse in Brenn. Traffic and gravity wells drag them out of hyperspace early. The pilot narrowly avoids a bulk freighter sitting in their jump point and fly through a crowded sea of freighters, luxury liners and yachts, system patrol/ customs vessels, and even an Imperial cruiser sitting in orbit. After dealing with space control they are approved to land and meet a customs officer who seems mad he wasn't offered a bribe so he ties them up with a scanning crew for a couple hours.

At the warehouse they find it has already been found by a local gang who do not appreciate being interrupted. A blaster fight breaks out, but with everyone in cover, very little damage is dealt. With that the jedi-ish character goes full parry with his lightsaber and slowly walks towards the bandits. He turns the tide and starts slaying them in close combat.
(already the specter of overpowered jedi is coming in, we both talked about slowing down his progression and he was in agreement, thankfully he is completely useless in space except for astrogation)

They then find out thanks to the bandits having opened one of the crates, that the cargo isn't spice. The jedi expert on spice immediately catches on and the rodian identifies it as a highly illegal explosive material similar to plastic explosive. But highly illegal to the point the imperials have a shoot on sight order for anyone caught with it. Preferring not to tick off the Hutts yet again, they use repulsorlifts the bandits brought and bring it back and load their ship, talking their way out of a patrol and paying off the customs crew appropriately this time.

They thought they were safely in hyperspace and were just sitting down to do whatever they do in the long day and a half jump back to Sorocco when they drive cuts out and starts smoking leaving them in open space. The verpine goes and tries to fix the hyperdrive and almost gets it done when they notice some kind of device had shorted the Flux Motivator. Then their ship rocks as another light freighter attacks and warns them to heave to and prepare for boarding.

The party oddly agrees and a docking tube extends out to the nebulous airlock and a boarding team of two repurposed super battle droids and a couple red and black armored troopers come across. Two PCs are standing in sight as the jedi wanted to ambush them from the side, but the Rodian tries to palm a weapon instead of dropping it and the lead battledroid makes its perception check to notice it. They then open fire and despite having fairly decent skill, I manage to roll all ones. (on a wild die roll of 1 we simply ignore the wild dice 1 and subtract 1 from the overall roll) So something catastrophic had to happen. So they missed the PCs and shot up the relatively flimsy boarding tube causing an explosive decompression. The rodian made a heroic difficulty check to close the airlock before anyone got sucked out. The boarding crew wasn't so fortunate.

A dog fight ensues between the two as both crews scramble to get their ships in gear. The PCs ship after a fairly in depth dogfight where each ship tried to out maneuver the other to get around shield arcs and so forth ended when the PCs got a heavy hit on the pirates and took out their turret weapon. After this the pirates scrambled to plot an emergency astrogation jump and warm up the hyperdrives as the PCs pursued them and the bad guys spent the rest of the battle full dodging their way only taking a few inconsequential hits. The PC's ship took an engine hit in the process. But the pirates do manage to escape into hyperspace and unbeknownst to the PCs suffer a severe jump mishap.

Back at Sorocco there contact meets them in space and has their ship land in the cargo bay of his ship and for once doesn't screw the players over and pays them. He even gives them a small substitute cargo in addition to pay the shaman on Sorocco with because of their troubles. Upon landing they are visited by their Hutt handler who questions them on their encounter in space and informs them of another gang trying to move in on them. He accepts a paltry amount of their prize from the assignment knowing full well how much they were paid. Meanwhile the PCs try to repair their ship and are looking to add extra guns to the ship.

Everyone got 5 character points and replaced their force points if used.

So I really need to do some legwork on this and figure out how much money and time adding an extra turret or more guns is going to cost just for parts since the Verpine wants to do the work herself. Further I need to start figuring out the sith holocron the party found back in episode one. The party wants to try and join the rebellion so it will start moving into that direction, but I am thinking to maybe further corrupt the dark jedi using the holocron. Maybe some sort of complex here in the outer rim. For sure when the crime scene is investigated on the planet they will notice the light saber cuts and report the odd injuries higher, and further even though I told them, twice, one of the bandits was only incapacitated by a lucky blaster hit, not dead, so they did in fact leave a witness. We will see.

Recap for the missed adventure:
PCs had a simple courier for rhe Rebellion as they don't really trust them yet. Bring some crates the to sector capital world. Perfectly legal crates. Deliver to a man named Rorden. They vaguely kept track of names and code phrases and discovered that this part of the planet is heavily populated by the Rorden clan. Similar to how South Korea is heavily populated by the Kim clan and 45% of the population is named three names with Kim being the most common(205 of total population. Actual stats, look it up). It also happens the actual rebel sympathizer is under suspicion so all the various intelligence agencies have hidden sting operations nearby, some infiltrated by the Rebellion. What was supposed to be a humorous side adventure of mistaken identities turned into almost a slaughter as our dark jediish character didn't want to be arrested, the captain ran his mouth, the verpine refused to follow orders and the rodian gun runner quietly put his hands on his head. So the verpine got stunned. The captain drew a vibroblade and was quickly stunned by two officers behind him with guns drawn(he argued he should have rolled for initiative while I said it was an instantaneous simple pull of the trigger) and the force user calmed down as the local intel agent checked the boxes and only found junk and was trying to figure out why they were acting so janky. The packages were delivered to the next shop which was correct and they were promptly all stunned by the rebels who didn't want any kind of revelation. They woke up back on their ship, money in the cockpit and a message telling them thanks. The data was hidden in their droid the entire time and the packages were a ruse.

The Pirates of Prexar. Yeah its supposed to be an intro adventure but wow did this one go off the rails. In the meantime the dark jedi character had figured out how to activate the holocron and got all kinds of speeches from various great Sith Lords and an instructional youtube video on how to use energy manipulation powers. It also mentions a Sith library fortress which the name is only slightly different from the planet this adventure takes place on. The characters get a piece of paper slid to them in a crowded market and told to go to a store and ask for a guy. He then tells them to go uot back where some workers are testing a really loud engine and are handed a data disc which details that the Rebels trust them enough to send them on a priority mission to steal some cargo back from some pirates. They accept

In prepping for the run, the Verpine who was a droid engineer prior to being a PC noticed an odd droid floating through the market(a Sith Dark Eye probe droid), she thinks it looks interesting but that's as far as it goes. PCs pick up a janky speeder and head to the planet, land 30km from the pirate base. Force users feel a dull sense of the dark side here. Take the speeder avoiding patrols a couple Km away and scout the base. In the book this is supposed to be quick heist with a sneak in, steal the good, break out, speeder chase through the woods , battle at the ship, and running space battle.

Yeah this isn't what the PCs chose to do. The 4 of them decided to take down the pirate base. Starting with splitting up the party, the jedi and gun runner(who carries a hold out blaster as his primary weapon) spread out for the ground attack. The starship with the verpine at the guns starts making attack runs on the pirate corvette. It manages eventually to get off the ground but by that point it has taken heavy damage and lost its turbolasers. I Dm fiated it to additional forward facing ion cannons and those ships got into a dog fight but the PCs ship easily over whelmed it and it crash and burned in the jungle.

On the ground, it was night btw, the rodian snipes a tower guard from the jungle and half the gate guard force rushes out to face him. Meanwhile the jedi cuts a hole in the shock fence and no one notices being too tied up with the dog fight. Some AT-PTs come out of the vehicle garage and the jed makes his way up to a tower, kills the guard and starts screwing with their communications. Rolls good con and befre long has them shooting up another tower while the BBG orders both towers destroyed. The enemy infantry force splits up and an At-PT goes with each. Jedi orders the that AT PTs are the bad guys and again rolls really well. The other AT-PT is destroyed but the one with BBG is fine as his squad sees he didn't give that order. They come around a building, see the jedi, beat his initiative and open fire. He full dodges and ducks around a corner. Only the BBG actually hits him and brings him to wounded.

In the jungle Scaelock the rodian is engaged with 5 guards and takes cover behind a tree and pops one in the head. His next shot is a solid chest Shot and he takes stun damage, but the fight continues and he ends up one shot/one kill until he runs out of ammo. By this point he is just shy of incapacitated and slumps behind a tree as a squad of speeder bikes are moving through the woods looking for him.

The PCs ship comes screaming in and destroys the At-PT in a major hit that blows it up and sends shrapnel all over, setting the chow hall on fire and throwing the BBG into the wall of the barracks building. They then come around around for a landing on the pad and start loading the crates. A guard jumps up and since there are only three, I let them all roll initiative and both PC roll the same, they both hit with their weapons and both do more than enough damage to kill him at the same time.

Meanwhile the Scarlock commed for help an the jedi said the base was under attack and the speeder bikes were not theirs. The BBG tried to counter that and the jedi rolled much higher so the squad remaining at the gate runs out and a gunfight goes on over the prone hiding body of Scarlock. Meanwhile the Jedi spots the BBG and trudges over. The BBG shoots and the jedi just tanks it taking no damage. He gets closer and swings and the BBG shoots him again and this time wounds the jedi again. I allowed him to stay up at -2D penalty. The jedi wins inititive and beheads the BBG and then collapses.

The verpine runs over to get him and then goes and gets Scarlock. They get back into space, back to their rendezvous with a rebel transport and transfer cargo. The jedi did say they were going to come back and investigate further.

Sounds like quite an adventure! It's amazing how things can go off the rails and still turn out to be a lot of fun.
