I've been following this guy on youtube for a couple of years now. There are different opinions about him out there, but he has a huge following. He is mostly talking about movies, but every now and then he would bring up some of his even nerdier(?) hobbies such as MtG, D&D and D6 Star Wars. On last Tuesday's episode he even brought his Star Wars D6 book out. The RPG talk is around 13 minutes into the video:

He says they would almost always play in the era between Empire and Return of the Jedi. Do you agree with Campea that this is the best era to run games in? :)

I would say yes. The Empire has the initiative while the Rebellion is on the backfoot. I think its the most interesting era to play in no matter the affiliation of the characters be them independent, rebel or imperial.

I think that the Rogue One era has just as many hypothetical problems for the Rebels as the ESB-RotJ period. And without the confirmed existence of the Death Star, there might not be the unifying force against the Empire.

I think you could just as easily go before Rogue One and use that as a background and let the players define their own history from there.

My campaigns usually started after the destruction of the first death star. But after Empire or during the Rebels/Rogue One eras are definitely neat.

Rebellion Era being most people's favorite is no surprise tho. :)
