Frank Frazetta's take at illustrating the Lord of the Rings:

How would this have made for a different RPG setting? :)

I note a distinct lack of pants in Frank's Middle Earth...;)

That's a feature (not) present in most of his works...

I am a bit ambivalent when it comes to Frazetta's art. On the one hand, it's always astounding, on the other, the fidelity to the source material is questionable at best, which somewhat sours the experience for me. For example, in an interview he said he had never read any Conan yarns (and I can clearly see it when looking at some of his pieces).
In this case, from Eowyn's drawing it's clear he is not following what Tolkien wrote; how can anyone look at her and NOT notice she is a woman is beyond me

Maybe it says more about the men of Rohan... ;)

Nevertheless, he created the visual experience of many major franchises, going straight to popular immagination.

A lot of the men of Rohan in the Lord of the Rings films were played by women, as they had a shortage of men who could ride horses and a bunch of women who owned their own horses working as extras.
