Re: D&D Rules Cyclopedia Back in Print!
Got an email about this earlier today. Thinking about a softback version to go with my original hardback!
I do what I have to do so I can do what I want to do

Definitely one I've been waiting for. I've got the PDF as part of their bundle for like a buck or two. Now I can get a hardcover for something less than the cost of a small collection

I'm waiting to see reports of the quality. If it is good, I'll be glad to replace my home-printed copy.

I'm saving up for a hardback and waiting on quality reports. I am excited to see this back as I do see the RC as the ultimate expression of Original D&D (dawns flame suit).

Re: D&D Rules Cyclopedia Back in Print!
OK, so my copy arrived, quicker than I expected.
Cover looks great, paper seems like a good weight. Colour maps are fine. Well glued and strongly constructed.
There is maybe the tiniest hint of blur on the text, but perfectly legible. In fact, it probably doesn't even bear mentioning practically, but I can see a tiny bit, so thought I'd mention it.
Some of the colour on the charts looks a little faded, but again perfectly legible.
I'll post pictures later, when kids are settled and before my partner wraps it, as it's technically a birthday present from her for the end of the month.
I'm very happy with it on first impressions.

OK, so the images were too big, so here are links to the pictures on imgur.
I might need to retake one or two to make them clearer.

Some of the photos have a yellow-ish hue, but I think this is just because of the photo quality or lights in your room? I am guessing that is the case since not all of the photos had that.
Some of my previous PoD orders from Drivethru had a pinkish hue so just checking. Well, I have already ordered by copy so I guess I am just curious

That would be the energy saving bulbs shining through the lightshade. The cover is yellowy but the internal pages were/are clear white.
The variation might be because it was a rush job before it was snatched and wrapped.
My Da was a great photographer but it turns out that skills aren't genetic but the result of study, practice and effort. Sadly.

Re: D&D Rules Cyclopedia Back in Print!
Mine arrived yesterday!
One interesting observation is that the reprint is alot thicker than the original. I'm guessing this is because of a higher paper quality in the reprint.
Some other details

Some other details
- The cover does have the same slight pinkish hue that alot of these reprints have. It is not something that bothers me too much, but it is noticable.
- The "Rules Cyclopedia" label on the spine is of a different color than the original.
- the green color used on tables etc inside the book looks a bit watered down compared to the original. Possibly a side effect of a different type of paper used. Interior maps also look a bit less glossy

Re: D&D Rules Cyclopedia Back in Print!
True, but it is spurring me on a bit.
I'm currently re-reading my BECM boxes and separating out what the rules actually are, from my hazy recollections and bit from 1e, 2e, 3/3.5e, 4e and a bunch of retro clones.
I'm a bid fan of tweaking things, adding house-rules, classes and whatnot. But first I like to be clear on what the standard rules are, and what effects my changes will bring, so I'm not spawning an unholy mess.
I had somehow completely forgotten about the 2ft Square, 20 pound magic books, for example.
I've been wanting to run a D&D campaign and having trouble deciding between 2e, 4e and BECMI. I think the RC might swing me towards Classic D&D. Maybe others are in the same boat?

I've actually been paring down "5b" (the free 5e "Basic" rules) even further in my spare time, trying to match up the newer edition even more closely with BECMI/RC D&D. (That spell list, for instance... still way too long!)gallowglacht wrote:True, but it is spurring me on a bit.

That is something I have been thinking about also. I may do that instead of doing a BECMI/RC or Dungeon Crawl Classic mini-campaign. Do you have a word doc that you could share, maybe on Google Drive ?RobJN wrote:I've actually been paring down "5b" (the free 5e "Basic" rules) even further in my spare time, trying to match up the newer edition even more closely with BECMI/RC D&D. I like what I see so far and will be ordering. My only curiosity is the difference between the soft and hard covers.
