Meh. That would be a valid way to do it.
However, I think it would be hard to get the viewer to know it was The Cultists if you didn't show them in panel 1. If you had a pre-teleportation panel in panel 1 and then two blacked out panels before the big reveal, I think that it would have worked just as well. But without a set up panel, people might wonder if it was the Cultists speaking.
Maybe you could have done some sort of thing where you make them black and white, or just draw the outline. That might let people realise they were in total darkness. But you have already done it your way and I think your style works.

I think the great follow up gag is that Cultist number one has seen the drow, but Cultist number two hasn't.
Maybe the second cultist could light a candle or something and you could then have semi-lit panels where The Cultists can't actually see all the drow surrounding them.
(Mind you the geeky people would then be estimating the distance that a candle would light up and complaining that you put in too much or too little candle power!
