[Stargate SG1] First Steps

It's a great new fantasy role-playing game. We pretend we're workers and students in an industrialised and technological society.

[Stargate SG1] First Steps

Post by Big Mac »

There is a Stargate SG1 book, called First Steps on Amazon:
First Steps on Amazon wrote:Stargate: SG-1 First Steps: The Stargate Unexplored Worlds Sourcebook - Paperback – 1 Aug 2004
by Inc Alderac Entertainment Group (Author)

The product blurb seems to be missing, but the Stargate SG-1 article on WIkipedia seems to suggest that this book is "a collection of worlds and adventures".

How many worlds are contained in this book? Does world one get an entire chapter?

Would it be easy for someone to use the worlds from First Steps with most d20 Future campaign settings? Or are these worlds too heavily tied into the SG-1 universe?

How about the adventures? Are there adventures that go with each world, or a bunch of generic adventures that could be adapted to other settings?

Is there anything else in this book?

It covers all the material explored by the SG1 team from the TV show.

EDIT:
Sorry, I was thinking of the wrong book. The one I was thinking of is Fantastic Frontiers.

Nice! I am sure fan wikias and the like will be useful for running games based on the other spin off series? :)

How many RPG books were published for this setting?

I have all the books but am ashamed to say all except the core book are in my ‘to read’ pile. Late here but will address some questions tomorrow.

Hmmm. I thought I had all the books. All the books in the series are numbered.
1 Stargate RPG
2 Fantastic Frontiers
3 Living Gods
4 Friends and Foes

So is First Steps book 5?
Other than the core book all the books I have are thin (1cm, about 175 pages) limiting the scope of what can be covered.

I don't know about the numbers, but RPG Geek's Stargate SG-1 article confirms 5 products (including First Steps and the ones you mentioned) along with an additional 3 things that look like Fan Enhancements for the setting.

That's quite small for a modern RPG book, but TSR often used to put out 96 page books, 64 page books and 32 page books, back during the Second Edition Era. And some of them used to be pretty awesome.

I don't mind smaller books, but if you are not expecting to buy a smaller book, and you get charged a lot for it, it can be a bit of a shock. (Ideally, I'd like to have a rough idea of the page count per UKP I'm paying.)

I've only really looked at the core book, and even then just to use as a research aide to using the setting for d20M. I should probably look into more of these...

Be aware a new Stargate game is coming but will use 5e as a base. Good for me but makes conversion to D20 modern more difficult. Personally, I think trying to emulate Stargate with any D&D ruleset is ... well it’s the wrong tool for the job.

Hmm. I might have to pick that up. I'll still probably want to use d20M for it, but hey.
