Re: Introduce yourself here
Hello, long time gamer here. Started out as a a RPG player in Dragonquest in 1981 and then as a DM using Moldvay Basic later in the same year. Played mainly AD&D 1e, Runequest 2e, CoC 3e during my school and college years and then from the early 90s onwards played Shadowrun, Aftermath! (which I still play once or twice a year in a campaign started back in the early 1990s), Middle Earth, Rolemaster, Gurps & probably other RPGs I've forgotten about. Apart from the Aftermath! not played anything since the late 1990s until about a year ago when I found a local group playing Pathfinder weekly. Since then I've joined a couple of D&D 5e groups running monthly, an AD&D 1e campaign running weekly & a Moldvay B/X campaign running monthly. I've also run some D&D 5e for my wife and then some B/X for my wife and kids.
I'm currently developing a Wilderlands Campaign using map 6 (City State of the World Emperor) as I never got around to running any D&D in that setting despite getting the CSWE back in 1981.
I'm currently living in Derbyshire in the UK.

Sadly it's a distant memory I can barely recall. Not played it since 1981 as was quickly seduced by D&D. The Dragonquest was a friend's copy and I've never managed to find a copy at a reasonable price

That was a very interesting read. I didn't realise Dragonquest kept going on so long. It just disappeared off my radar. Maybe it was a bigger game in the USA?Havard wrote: ↑Wed Jan 02, 2019 6:01 pmif you are feeling nostalgic, we have this thread about Dragonquest for you to look at![]()

Re: Introduce yourself here
I'm told it is good form to introduce oneself if one has become a member of some community. Please keep in mind that english is my third language (first being danish, second being german *Gasp!*) and that I might come off as somewhat weird, absent-minded and/or rude because of this...
If you google my username you'll find that I write about the nanny-state I live in published by an american website, and some porn, if you look hard enough for it. Yes, I do indeed work in the adult industry, but there's absolutely no need for you to ask about it - it has little to no influence on why I am here. I also develop boardgames and write fantasy/horror/sci-fi short-stories.
The latter is the primary reason I have joined this wonderful website; inspiration has to come from somewhere, and every bad idea has a solution thought of by people who are more brilliant than me. In order to better create and understand the world(s) I write in, I find it inspirational to scour the interwebz and look for snippets of genius that I can thrust into my work - and perhaps discard something I thought was clearly brilliant but close to or similar to something discussed here.
Maybe I can throw some ideas your way and get some feedback from you guys some time in the future?
My gaming days are over, I'm afraid, but it was great while it lasted. I was given a D&D Basic Set for my 8th birthday and I started playing with my friends. I had a short detour through the Forgotten Realms setting and across Dark-Sun until I went back to D&D with the Rules Cyclopidia. I was never really satisfied with anything other settings provided and made my own, as DM, using D&D as the system. A move from my hometown to Copenhagen, my career and a failed attempt at romance broke the group I played with back then, but that world still exists and I am currently spending a lot of time polishing it and using it as a setting for my writings.
I spent every other sunday playing Vampire: The Dark Ages for 11 years (2001 - 2012), but moving back to my hometown made it impossible to continue that campaign. I don't miss gaming but I will never leave the world of fantasy....

Cool. What relevance is this of, then? Why even bother putting it as second paragraph on a gaming site? Literally no one cares about your porn, my guy

I don't know where Dragonquest was most popular. I don't even know how widespread it was, but there does seem to have been some support for it.ShandyAndy wrote: ↑Wed Jan 02, 2019 6:22 pmThat was a very interesting read. I found The Piazza years ago when looking for Talislanta forums. I've been lurking off and on since then until finally deciding to join.
I started gaming in '87 with the D&D Red Box and have had an addiction for RPGs ever since. I live in a painfully rural area of the United States, so recently I've had to scratch my gaming itch with solo play, using oracles and story cubes and anything else I can think of. It's been slow going, but I'm getting the hang of it.
Right now I'm most interested in B/X D&D, Second Edition AD&D, 3.5 D&D, and maybe 5th Edition D&D. Like I said, I'm still getting my feet wet as far as solo play is concerned, so I'm trying to stick with what I know or can pick up fairly quickly.
Anyway, thanks for reading. I hope to participate more when I have some stories to tell (I like sharing play reports when I have them).
Take care.
With regard to solo play I recommend Elminster’s Guide to Solo Adventuring (EGSA) for D&D5e and a published adventure you have not read. I’ve been playing through Storm King’s Thunder this way and its good fun.
You can read my review of EGSA in issue 41 of RPG Review here:

And follow my solo game through Storm King’s Thunder here:

Re: Introduce yourself here
Heya!
Name's Belial Lyka, and I've sporadically scoured through some of the subforums here for a few years now. Been in the D&D game since 2003, shortly after 3.5's debut, but I've since looked into earlier materials and now some of my favourite releases are from the 2e era.
While most of my experience is in 3.5 I usually play 5e these days. My favourite settings are Spelljammer, Planescape, and Dark Sun.
Right now I'm working on a 5e adventure taking place on Blood Tor, 13th layer of the Abyss. When finished it'll likely be released on the DMs Guild.
Since people seem to be bringing locations up, I'm a resident of Groningen, the Netherlands.

Hi, Belial. Welcome! I look forward to checking out your adventure when it comes out. Is it influenced by Planescape, which you mentioned was a favorite setting of yours?lookatroopa wrote: ↑Thu Jan 17, 2019 6:54 pmName's Belial Lyka, and I've sporadically scoured through some of the subforums here for a few years now. Yes, it'll have ties to post-Faction War Planescape, and I'm striving to make it tonally fit in with the original 2e line.

Howdy
I made my first post yesterday, just chiming on about adventures set in Karameikos, and Havard mentioned I might introduce myself.
I have lurked on this forum for one or two decades, I reckon, but never posted. I'm not always good at socialising and I never reckon I have much to add. I used to play Dungeons and Dragons growing up but I have never had a chance since, so it's been almost thirty years, but Inkept all my stuff (I have hard copies of almost everything published for BECMI and Mystara; and everything else in .pdf files – so if you need anything looked up, I can help).
I'm trying to organise information into a dynamic Website making it easy to corelate data via a database: which languages are spoken where, which political subdivisions (baronies, emirates, etc.) are parts of what soverign nations, and who the rulers are, clans and tribes' locations and demography, etc.
The goal is that it will be a slicker interface and not so much long lists, since each topic can ne navigated and desired variables (values, really) selected together, if you see what I mean. It's a way to help me hone my programming and try to be productive to get through some very horrible personal difficulties that have left me with A lot of pain and a lot of time on my hands which I need to sublimate somehow. It will take a lot of time and work but I'll share things once a modicum of presentable functionality is reached.
Thanks to everyone here who has lept Mystar alive; it's kind of a place I go to escape, I guess....
