:D

I do think Kuntz ought to have a say about what his character would have done :)

Too right! For the other reasons I didn't like Greyhawk Wars is touched upon in your notes, Mort!

While GH Wars was handled sloppily, I DO think that is the direction Gygax had in mind. After all, he started out a wargamer before he created GH and most of his GH campaign articles in Dragon were about what? Troop movements and ongoing battles! With the exception of the Scarlet Brotherhood, I think if EGG had written GHW, things may have played out very similar. Now how they ended, with Rary and all that, sure that would've never happened.

I agree. Gygax posted a lot of troop movement & battle notes in articles in pre-#100 issues of Dragon, of which I only have a few. (Perhaps just one. ) The things they did with GH Wars meta-plot were beyond my ability to reconcile, so I just didn't use them. (but I liked the wargame itself - although I would have preferred that they used the 2e Battlesystem or even Skirmishes instead of introducing a new "boardgame" that few thought highly of.)

I bought "Rary the Traitor" anyway, hoping that there was something in there to redeem the NPC, but IIRC, not so.

This is the time I recall that the GH line started to get shoddy - editing & continuity errors, but - I recall that while several good hands were there to write them Sargent, Cook, Henson, etc.), they were doing so under the gun of the POG, and the writers just didn't have as much heart in it as they could have.

EDIT: There was at least one product (Castles boxed set) that featured a famous castle from GH, FR & DL that each had Battlesytem (2e) scenarios for. I have this, and I think I should have spent more time analyzing & playing the Battlesystem scenarios more than putting together all those cardstock castles & buildings! But, once the table was full of the buildings & castles, it would have been great to have a table full of players eager to try BS2e out! :?
