Shademaw from the Isle of Dread

Post by dulsi » Tue Nov 01, 2011 7:54 pm

Should this be 4E, Greyhawk, Mystara, or something else thread? I still haven't had a chance to read the article but WotC did a monster makeover for a dragon on the Isle of Dread.

Wow! Awesome find!
I'm bringing this guy into Mystara. No doubt about that. Annoying references to Yuan-Ti since they werent around in the BECMI days. Kopru would be much more appropriate for the Isle anyway.

I'm hoping to see more Isle of Dread stuff. Thanks for sharing! :)

The article says the dragon is "thousands of years" old. Do 4E dragons really get that old? It seems a little excessive for my tastes. "Centuries" would have worked better.

According to the 3E MM, an ancient dragon is at least 801 years old.

Not sure if that was changed in 4E as I don own any 4E monster books.

I don't think there is any reference about age at all.

Change a few details and Shademaw now lives in the Swamps of Kan Thet in southwestern Ghelsphad. The Yuan-Ti become Aasathii and everyone is happy.

The 4th edition Draconomicon of Chromatic Dragons has the black dragon life cycle at wyrmling 1-4, young 5-124, adult 125-899, elder 900-1599, ancient 1600-2200. Shademaw may be nearing its twilight. Perhaps this could be made a part of its ultimate objective, attempting to over come or in some way negotiate death.

Isn't the Isle of Dread part of Nentir Vale in 4th Edition?
