[BRP] Settings

Post by Havard » Mon Feb 15, 2016 9:10 pm

RuneQuest Settings, RuneQuest Editions, BRP Settings, Elric & Eternal Champion, Call of Cthulhu, HeroQuest, Glorantha

BRP or Basic Roleplaying is the core system used by Chaosium in games like Call of Cthulhu, RuneQuest, Pendragon, HeroQuest and others. BRP has also been published as a generic RPG. Here's a list of the various published BRP settings available:

Fantasy/Medieval
Note: Glorantha and other RuneQuest Settings are not included above. Go here for the complete list of RuneQuest Settings.

Horror Victorian / Western
  • Devil's Gulch
  • Aces High
  • Agents of the Crown
  • Dark Streets (Cakebread and Walton)
Science Ficiton
Pulp / Super Heroes
  • Superworld
  • Astounding Adventures

Did I miss any? :)

Thanks Boneguard!

Awesome! Never heard of this one before!
I placed that one in my list of RuneQuest settings, though should it be considered a generic BRP setting as well due to its link to the Renaissance system? Clockwork & Cthulhu appears to be a sourcebook for Clockwork & Chivalry?
I have this RPG and my copy doesn't use the BRP system. Is there a second version of Abney Park's Airship Pirates based on the D100/BRP system?
Am I right in thinking this is a system rather than a setting? Or does Renaissance come with a default setting separate from Clockwork & Chivalry as well?
and Pirate and Dragons by Cakebread & Walton

Cool! This one sounds like alot of fun! :)

I would say Generic. As you said, it's derived from Renaissances system, itself a OpenQuest derivitive.

Nope, I goofed here.

Both actually. It's a their primary Game Engine and is used to "drive" most of their RPGs line, but there is a actual Renaissance RPG book with several adventures.

I particularly like that one...maybe the fact that one of the Island was named and Described by me, might have a reason for it too :P

Unfortunately I never got to play it...yet.

I would maybe put Pirate & Dragons more into Victorian Era. It's suppose to be a Fantasy Europe during the Great Carrabean Pirate Era.

Runequest is mentioned in the first line of the OP. Perhaps it's not included because the thread is for settings? In which case Glorantha should be listed.

As Krimson says, RuneQuest is not a setting. I have a separate thread for RuneQuest settings and felt incorporating all of those in this list would clutter things up, plus it would make the lists more difficult ti maintain. :)

Giant Ringworld fan but you missed my second and third favourites 'Mythic Britain' and 'Luther Arkwright' both by 'The Design Mechanism'.

Mythic Britain is almost like the historical Britain shortly after the arrival of the Saxons and Christianity but with creepy magic.

Luther Arkwright is parallel universe/ psychedelic sci-fi as only the British of the 60's to 80's could do.

Thanks for commenting Coronides!

I have listed these separately as RuneQuest Settings.

I had no idea what Luther Arkwright was so its interesting to hear what that was all about.

I've been thinking about picking up Mythic Britain perhaps to combine with Pendragon :)

Havard, the CoC link in the first line of your OP goes to the CoC forum rather than to the CoC settings thread.
