Westron road, Sisak
Scene XXXXVI - Hwyrlen, Flaurmont morning of 3rd day, 993 AC

"We are leaving now. Glad to see you again, Taradain. We can use some extra help and you have prove your worth many times!", Kesh says, embracing the girl.
"I've heard good things about you. I am Bellithiel, travelling with your companions through the Tomb of Demara, the haunted house of Gunter and the Temple of the Gray Mountain. Ogres, ghost and witches, we have some stories to tell!" a beautiful female elf says. Taradain remembers having seen other times in the past Bellithiel speaking with Bonth in Threshold.
Bellithiel introduces another male elf, Taran of the Elvenguard, then Retameron also come to salute Taradain with his companions Sam, Cardia and Halia.
Then there is the group of Desmond Kelvin, Ludovico, Nicola, Sara and Dorus whom Taradain already met during the adventure of the Hill near Guido's Fort. Finally Arteris Penhaligon, Fain Flinn, Sharllaya the bard and her companion Keio, who looks like a humanoid little red bear and whom Taradain already met in Penhaligon and Stallanford. Beside Taran the other new face introduced to Taradain is Alexei, human cleric of the Church of Zirchev from Specularum.
"We are all happy to have you with us again girl!", Retameron says, hugging her.

Westron road, Sisak - Promethian - Radlebb village
Scene XXXXVI - Hwyrlen, Flaurmont 3rd day, 993 AC

You leave Sisak with two caravans, the one of Yori and the one from Highforge. It will be slower, but Desmond, Arteris and Retameron agrees it will be far safer. The situation in Sisak is calm now, with men sent by the local lord to help the villagers and a patrol from Radlebb keep.
During the day you encounter one more patrol, escorting a caravan coming from Luln. The weather is fine and they say no further White Deaths attack have occurred so far. You cover about 15 miles and by the early afternoon you reach the village and castle of Promethian, a feud belonging to relatives of the Duchess. Desmond, Arteris and Retameron knows them well, but decide not to manifest their presence to them.
"They are good people, but servants and soldiers love to talk, and the less people know we are going where we are going, the better", Desmond says.
Ten miles later, when the night is already falling, you are in the village of Radlebb, right of the road just below the powerful keep which dominates it from a hill let of the road.
"About 22 miles to Luln, we should be able to cover them tomorrow if we do not encounter problems", Retameron says. You try to blend among the crowd at the Boar’s Head Inn, but Retameron advises to listen much and talk little, as the place is thick with soldiers and probably spies of the Black Eagle.
"But is useful to spread around and listen to the local rumors", Fain Flinn says.

Lucius spends the evening in a morose mood. The crowd at the inn bothers him, so he makes a token effort to listen to rumors, then turns early to bed.

Westron road, Radlebb village
Scene XXXXVI - Hwyrlen, evening of Flaurmont 3rd day, 993 AC

The owner of the Boar's Head is an old halfling woman called by all Lady Maya. She is a well known friend of Lady Sascia and opposer of the Black Eagle. Halia and Retameron speak with her, learning that recently she has done her best to maintain good relations with the local bugbears and hobgoblins to the north, the Bloodbears, as emissaries of the Iron Ring are trying to persuade them to raid the Westron road. So far, the Iron Ring had more success with the White Deaths orcs and goblins to the south, which have been particularly restless. Travellers have been kidnapped and villages and inn have been attacked too.

Another prominent figure in the inn is Talia, a beautiful woman who dances and acts, and coordinates the local friendly girls. She hears many think obviously, and Taradain, Sam, Nicola and Ludovico are able to learn quite a bit from her:
- It seem the Radlebb troops are heavily infiltrated with spies which report to the Iron Ring or, possibly, the Black Eagle. Lady Maya is aware of that and tries to feed them false information, but she does not always succeed as she does not know all the spies.
- Nearby Korsiszegy Keep, 15 miles to the north, is inhabited by vampires and werewolves and the Iron Ring is trying to take control of them. If they succeed, they will probably attack directly Radlebb or Luln.
- A gigantic boar, some say a demon, some say a werecreature, is the true leader of the Radlebb plains to the south. The White Deaths orcs and goblins pay tribute to him. The Iron Ring is searching for this creature.

From the gnomes and dwarves of the caravan which brought Taradain here, all people you know at least by name having seen them in Highforge, Bofar can learn something from the only local dwarf, named Tor, a fellow originally from Highforge who now works at the local brewery and as informal guard if needed.
- The local brewmaster Garon is the informal village major. He is a humble and kind man.
- Koriszegy keep is rumored to hold vast treasures. However many adventurers have tried to explore it, a none ever returned.

A waitress, a young, dark haired beautiful girl, tries to be friendly with Lucius in the course of the evening.

Alexei meet Kerwin, local cleric of the Church of Traladara. He says the village and the keep are surrounded by enemies, but more or less all cooperate for the mutual defense. He would like less alcohol around, but the village ha a brewery and six taverns.

The soldiers of Radlebb Keep, numerous and noisy, mostly boast about their feats against humanoids, undead or Traladaran rebels, and scary stories about the Iron Ring, the Beast of Radlebb, Lord Koriszegy and local monsters. They are willing to chat, so you can easily obtain more rumors from them, if you want to.

Much has happened while you were in Highforge. We're deep in a war against a powerful, ruthless wizard at the head of a large organisation with superior means. We would need a strong leadership, excellent planning and a united team to prevail, but my feeling is that we've none. Rather, we alternate paranoia and recklessness and we quarrel among ourselves. And what's worse, there's very little we can do about this.

Our opponents Are strong and have superior means and if i were a betting woman i would bet that they have at least one agent in this room right now. Now the real question here is why haven't you taken this up with the others and maybe suggest a different path. It can not hurt to have the discussion Though i am bit younger than you and a lot younger than Bofar and most of the others. but even i can see that young lady
has been flirting with you for a while now even in the darkness Happiness can be found my friend. two souls together make light my mother always said.

Westron road, Radlebb village - Luln
Scene XXXXVI - Hwyrlen, Flaurmont 4th day, 993 AC

Retameron later comments the rumours you have heard with you. "A lot of different things, but I fear there is some truth in all this wandering around of the Iron Ring. They are searching for allies, and if they will really have humanoids, vampires and Immortals know what else on their side, the future of Karameikos could well be in grave danger. I will report all this to Lord Korrigan, he will listen to me, I hope".

Next day you leave Radlebb village for Luln. On the road there are travellers and homestead, all fortified, an inn and also a town named Utociste, Refuge in Traladaran. The town is heavily fortified and the villagers are all armed. "There are many refugees from Halag here. And more in Luln", Retameron says. Indeed the village has a number of shabby inhabitants who looks like they escaped with just their lives.
You leave the town quickly and soon you encounter a big patrol of Luln soldiers, more than 30 men. Taran speaks to them, presenting himself as a member of the Elvenguard to meet Lady Sascia. The soldiers control his credential throughtfully, then half of them escort you to Luln, maintaining a distance and without speaking a word. Before the evening you reach the town of Luln. Dominated by a castle, it is partially protected by a big stone wall, but clearly new houses have been built after it, and they show signs of damages, some have been clearly burned to the ground and only partially rebuilt. Shabby inhabitants roam the muddy streets of these new areas, around which wooden walls are being built over the ruins of former walls.
There is a huge number of soldiers around. Before you reach the wall, the patrol who was escorting you comes near and a cleric comes out from the town. He does some magic and look at you, then he nods. Alexei goes speaking with him, and in a few minutes a man comes to greet you.
"I am Captain Danthor Bethin, of the Homeguard. I understand you are here to see Lady Sascia, but I have to ask you to choose a delegation of no more than seven, for safety reasons", he says.
Taran nods, and proposes to go with Retameron, Desmond and Arteris, and three more people.
"Do you want to go?" Bellithiel asks you.

Westron road, Luln
Scene XXXXVII - Hwyrlen, Flaurmont evening of 4th day, 993 AC

Then it is decided Taran will go with Desmond, Arteris, Retameron, Bellithiel, Taradain and Alexei.
In the meantime all the others go to the biggest inn in town, Rhonda's Roadhouse, in the south of town, a place busy with merchants
You say goodbye to Yuri, his son, his drivers and guards who have another lodging, and thank you profusely for your help, offering also you any supply you may need at their warehouse.
Later when you are at dinner, the other returns from the audience with Lady Sascia.

(As Taradain and the others can later tell about it to Lucius and Bofar I will play this here in the main forum).
The Markovitch Castle, also known as the Citadel, dominates the west of Luln, looking toward the Black Eagle, people say. It is a small and austere castle, and all the rooms are quite simple, even the audience chamber of Lady Sascia Markovitch.
She is a dark haired beautiful woman about 20 years old, but with the fierce look of a warrior.
The castle is full of armed men and inside a female wizard and a male cleric examine you briefly, speaking with Taran, Retameron and Alexei. As the latter two know the cleric and the wizard and Taran has his credential, you however obtain the answer quite fast.
Lady Sascia has the female wizard, another male wizard, the male cleric , the captain you met at the gate and another warrior, an older man.
Retameron has already briefly explained who you are and why you are here.
"I am impressed to see a Penhaligon and a Kelvin son here in Luln, and needing my help. I suppose as loyal subjects of the Duke we should help, even if the Thyatian lords have hardly ever helped us", Lady Sascia says, smiling.
Retameron looks at Arteris and Desmond and then Desmond speaks.
"We are only recently understanding our fathers and the Duke himself may have been naive to believe all Von Hendriks said about you, and the whole situation here in the West. However no one doubts Skarda is an enemy of our nation, and if we succeed in our mission, we may able to prove a connection between him and other parties, and this would be useful to you too, as you could obtain more resources from the Duke to defend your land", Desmond says.
Sascia seems somehow calmed by the answer, then she looks at Taradain.
"I heard you became quite famous in Specularum a couple of years ago, escaping slavers and as an example of the new Karameikan people, but maybe you were much too young for this. I think I can understand perfectly, I was 14 years old when I had my first battle, and I have never stopped fighting since then".

An undeserved fame Lady Markovitch . At the time I was in hindsight too young, impetuous and headstrong. If not for a handful of friends i have made i would either be dead or worse enslaved! As a result of those events I have gained both experience and perspective and I can not sit by while my friends fight against evils such as Skarda and his like. For what my opinion may be worth these gentlemen are noble not only by birth but in thought and deed.

"I hope you are right, I trust your judgement more than their titles. And you are right also about friends, if it was not for mine, I would not be alive either", she adds, looking at the men and woman around her. "So it is important you have a guide to the swamp. I will send the two best ones with you. But you have to promise, on your honour, that if you succeed after you use that Orb to find Skarda, you will also let my wizards use it".
Desmond, Arteris and Retameron agree. Taran notes that after everything, the Orb should be eventually sent to the Duke as well. Alexei says it is a sacred artifact of the Church of Zirchev, so it will have to return to it in the end, no matter what. Taran and the assembled nobles agree on this.
Captain Danthor leads you back to the inn, telling you to meet the guides tomorrow at the barracks of the Homeguard, and giving you directions.
Back with all the others, Taradain and Retameron tell about the meeting with Lady Sascia.
"You will have time to roam Luln tomorrow as we will have to meet the guides and ask them what kind of equipment we should have. I will go speaking with them, tell me who wants to come with me and who wants to see Luln instead and hear the rumors around town", Retameron says.

I'll come to see the guides. I am not sure how good it is for total strangers go wandering around the town. They seem to be quite suspicious about strangers here and for a good reason.

"Still there are traders around, so we could take a look, with due caution", Taran says.
After a brief discussion, it is decided you will go with Retameron, Desmond, Bellithiel and Arteris to meet these guides, while the others will be assigned to check with the locals. Alexei in the Church of Traladara, Kesh with local gnomes and dwarves, Taran with soldiers, Sharllaya and Keio in the market, Sara in the Church of Karameikos, Nicola among local wizards, Sam among halflings. Fain Flinn, Ludovico, Cardia, Halia and Dorus will stay at the inn.
The morning after you meet Captain Danthor again, and he introduces you to Warreck, a native of Luln and expert of the lands around it, which has been in the swamp.
"He can walk you to the edges of the swamp, to another guide who knows the swamp much better", Captain Danthor says.
Warreck is clearly young, but seem very grave and with some experience.
"You will need clean water, a lot of it. High and waterproof boots, hats or helmets and light scarfs. Potions made of marigold and lavander, to keep the mosquitoes away. And some ten feet poles. And gold or silver, as you may need it to bribe the local inhabitants. If you can obtain all this in two days, we will leave on the morning of the 7th. Questions?", Warreck says.

"Mostly non human. The swamp has lizardmen, hobgoblins, gatormen, caymen, trolls and nastier things. I will lead you to the border, not inside it. Just to get here, we will need the help of giants and elves to avoid the gnolls' patrols. At the border, you will have to find a local guide, ideally a cayman, as they are the most reasonable, or better yet a gatorman, as they are the strongest. I would avoid the lizardmen, which are supposedly allied with the Iron Ring. The border of the swamp is 22 miles straight to the west, but we cannot go straight into gnoll territory, so we will have to do a much longer walk around of 42 miles. It will take at least three days, even if we can go on horses up to a certain point. You are aware in the last hundred years, only a couple of expeditions came out of the swamp alive? Well, most of them alive. Some others had one or two survivors. All the others, they died to the last one", Warreck say dryly.
