It was a great video. He does seem like a nice guy.
Agreed. He seems like a really cool guy. I really like his enthusiasm when talking about D&D and the idea of him taking part in a D&D movie.
Right now, I would rather see a D&D movie that feature any published D&D campaign setting over another generic fantasy movie with the name D&D thrown on it.
As I mentioned
in the Buck Rogers thread, I think finding a good story is the most important thing. Name checking things from the rules or other published material is more often than not a detriment to good storytelling on the big screen. However, Peter Jackson showed with the Lord of the Rings movies how attention to the source material can be a great resource when developing a film. That could also help a D&D movie if they make use of an existing setting.
I actually think that Dragonlance is an excellent thing to turn into a movie, as the War of the Lance is a great story, but Forgotten Realms has some reasonable stories too.
Agreed. Take the best stories from the novels and adapt those. You could even look at the MCU movies where they dont really just adapt a single comic book story line, but incorporate many different story elements into orignal stories.
If TSR had not fallen out with Gary Gygax, I think that a series of Gord the Rogue movies would have been the best option.
Yes, many things would have been different if he had not been forced out of the company.
I don't think there is any chance that they would do a Spelljammer movie. I don't think it would pull in as large an audience as Forgotten Realms, and the environment of Wildspace would probably push the budget up. But I'd rather have a movie for that or even a fairly obscure D&D setting that had some sort of story to tell.
You know what, I am not really sure that is true anymore. With the way CGI works these days, special effects aren't really that expensive. Add to that, audiences today are much more accepting of supernatural elements in movies as long as it is done right. Perhaps not a Spelljammer movie as such, but having Spelljammer ships in the movie might just add some additional fun to the movie.
