Would you tie this race in with the Yuan-ti?

But do they have a knightly order?

1. Guessing they are counterculture Yuan-ti. ;)
2. They are both an order and an accessory. :p

Oh, it gets better: a youtube channel (DawnforgedCast) has a new video up (I haven't watched it yet) about his newly created Yuan-ti PALADIN for a 5e game. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZSUjvrn ... bcastemail A PALADIN. I assume it is Lawful and GOOD, and it is insanely overpowered, and it is all by the book*.

I'm too old school for this s**t.

(*Assuming that you allow the Yuan-ti race from Volo's Guide, it is "by-the-book".)

Paladins are no longer limited to just one alignment. Each of the oaths (subclasses) has one or two alignments that fit it best (IIRC, Oath of Devotion LG, Oath of the Ancients NG, Oath of Vengeance LN/N).

But yeah, a yuan-ti paladin with anything but the Oathbreaker subclass just sounds wrong. They aren't just snake-men, they're divinely-corrupted monsters!

Oh yeah. I kinda like the Oath of the Ancients. I want to play a Green Knight one of these days.

Just not Yuan-ti green.

I could also easily buy Vengeance paladins as being Neutral Evil or Chaotic Neutral members of any species up to and including YTs.

That's fluff for specific settings and can easily be discarded. The webcomic Goblins has a half-lady snake as one of the main characters; she was explicitly called a Yuan-Ti up until the author got in legal trouble for that, so now she officially isn't one, but anytime the lawyers aren't in earshot, she obviously is. There's nothing corrupt about her, partly because the point of that comic is that most "monsters" are just people (and human people are often monstrous), but also because there's no evidence that her race is even remotely morally questionable in any way. (They're kind of physically disgusting by human standards, but that's purely a perspective issue.) Likely this is because she is the only member of her species we've ever seen (apart from mostly-evil alternate universe versions of her, where the fact that most of the alternate universes are evil was an explicit plot point), and the author has specifically stated that she was based on his mother, so she's obviously going to be a pretty thoroughly Good person.
